As I'm bored with nothing to do, I decided to put on my "be helpful" hat, and, be helpful :D

Ok, so, a quick rundown on Firewalls and Security based stuff (that are free) to help protect your system from, well, stuff tbh.

==
Firewalls
==

Firewalls are, walls, made of fire, what they seem to do, is start a small fire inside your modem, and then burn any bad hax0rs trying to come in, by sending back by nuking their system (not really, but, we can wish, they filter packets/ip address's to prevent, or try to prevent unauthorised incoming/outgoing traffic and hiding your computer on the internet)

First up is Kerio.

Apparently, its better than..

Zone Alam

I prefer Sygate myself

Outpost Firewall from Agnitum is a new one, open source I'm lead to believe from them crazy Linux folks (hippies)

Ok, so, we have stopped 1337 h4x0r5 for now, but one way a hacker will try to gain entry into your box, is via trojans etc. (from that porn site you visited last week Kyle <3 ) One way around this, apart from wrapping your puter in concrete and burying it under the Millenium Dome, is anti virus software, which also prevents infection and deleted bugz, cept neocron bugs, which is a shame really.

AVG Anti-Virus is a good one, also sends a message when you mail out saying "checked for virus's, and found none, please run the EXE attached :D" if so desired.

Umm, thats the only AV I can think of at the moment, but it does the job pretty good, so choice isnt a good thing at times ;)

Anyway, feel free to share which AV/Firewall software you prefer/use/recommend (except ipchains, we are M$ Wind0z us3rz :p)

BlackICE is another great firewall.

Get Adaware to get rid of Spyware as well.

if you have a nackered old pc somewhere, I'd consider using IPCop or Smoothwall.
Nice and easy to setup 'n configure Linux based systems with web interfaces and all that hooha.

i've had multiple problems with zone alarm with XP, having multiple users logged in at the same time with different permissions set on the users(i.e. limited user, administrator).

from crashing to not being able to log out, to having zone alarm supposivly being shutdown but still not being able to access certain areas of the internet, zone alarm has really gotten on my bad side.

it even blocked neocron for awhile, anyone remember that post i made few months back, man i thought the servers were down or that my copy was messed up, and after 3 re-installs i remembered that zone alarm is a bitch of a program and uninstalled it and neocron worked again.
