unbanned, but NC broke

Well I've put up a thread or to about this i figured 3rd times a charm.

My NC is borked. It stops responding right before the login screen.

Heres wat i tried:
-Full reinstall (7 times now).
-reinstall gfx card
-get all new drivers for everything (including directx, gfx card..etc)
-emailed tech help, (they told me that i proly have a corrupt CD or patches)

Well i can't DL NC ona 56k... and patches would take forever...
So i decided I'd make a thread.

Any ideas??

Sounds better than DLin all patches again =). When i get home I'll try that.

yea. said i was missig files or something. Said I should dl NC from the site. and then all the patches again (But I'm on 56k...)

lol hes not wat you could call a reliable friend. I asked him if I could burn his patches and lemme borrow his CD, he said "well i can...but wheres teh motivation"

It's so stupid. I got the same problem too a few times.

Then I decide "if the game wont let me play, fuck it, i just wont" and go on with some other stuff...

Next day (did NOTHING to NC) it just works....


I cant find/know the problem, so i dont know the "cure"...

NC downloads need checksums me thinks ...

What's your OS? You could try regressing to an order version of DirectX/Graphic Driver (minor ver. not major) and see if that helps.

Also I'm sure somebody would be willing to burn a CD with the downloaded patches for you ...

try the obvious first. Got a firewall like zonealarm pro? If so it could detect a change in the EXE and is asking for permission to let it through again. Set the file to changes often (bad) or set the ZAP to learning mode and launch NC.

What OS you using? XP (Home edition at least) if you set it to give more time to system resources rather then programs it totally borks the graphics card from working when running NC.

i got windows 2000 pro. Also i have a firewall but obviously its been turned off. (i've been playing with firewall and NC for a ways back) Also i have had it turned off for a long time now.

I'm not totally sure this would work .. but if you could find someone willing to give it a try . . you and someone else make an cd image of the Neocron cd ... make sure to use the same settings and such so hopefully they come out the exact same . . then get that person to use Quickpar (http://parchive.sourceforge.net/) and make it in block files . . . send you the main par checker which is really small .. . so you can check your iso and see how much it's different .. . it'll report how many blocks y ou need in order to correct it to the orginal .. then that person can send you as many blocks as you need ... sorry I'm bad at descriptions .. .lol .. and I've never done the creating of the par2 files . . but it always works for corrupt videos :D or whatever else i need that has gone corrupt and someone else has, with out having to download the full file again

One time had a 600mb file .. . and it woudlnt' work .. . turns out i needed only a few bytes fix :eek: glad i didn't redownload that sucker

Yeah as someone said the solution to this problem is doing the 'file check' , rebooting your comp, and ta da it'll work.

well sounds like it could work. I'll give it a try.

BTW its good to be back. even though i've played for about 30 min before this problem re-occured.

lately now my comp is jsut freezing...so it might not be something wrong with this but just my screwed up comp.

But anywho I'll give it a go Zone.

well just did it. Found 1 corrupt file. caves_p1.bsp or something. then it downloaded it fromt he server or something adn then i rebooted. And still got the same problem.

i swear its a conspiracy to keep me out NC =P.

Found out the problem:

apparently my ISP (AOL...yea i kno its ghey) wouldn't let me get to teh login screen for NC. When i jsut switched ISP (a free one 33.6k) it worked. Problem is how do i get it working for my AOL? Is there a setting or soemthing?
