View Full Version : If a new server comes (neptune for example) would you move there?
Lets say, NC gets a good new publisher, DoY is very well done, gets good advertising and good revews. Saturns hight goes to 550, pluto and uranus each about 400. People start posting over and over they want neptune, and new players want a fresh server for equal standing. KK agrees and makes it.... would you go?
I have to say, at this point, I would not. no le or safezones or whatever, I just cant start again. Ive been on saturn since early september now, and its taken me till now to gain what I see as acceptable wealth, several sf cpus, marine cpus, one psi core, several CS, libs, pain easers and RoGs, one mc5 cpu (synaptic Accel) and some money, plus about 300-400 parts. Anyway, I just dont think i could do it again... its like diablo 2... I think patch 1.10 looks cool, but i just cant go throught the effort to level for the 20th time and find items all over again, I dont think I could do it in nc.
I mean think of it, if you started on neptune. Lets take the easiest char to level, PE. Now, someone with a lot of time and team can cap all but con in 3-4 days, con too if they have a really good patient ppu and tank/apu freind, or just ppu to heal him while doom harbinger shoots him all day. But you prob wont have this, nor will you have items just handed to you by yourself or freinds. A lot of time will be taken up simply to make enough money to have weapons bought, bped, parts bought, finding a good constructor (hard on a new server) and then you hope you get a slot, because you wont get many tries. You have to get high level, then kill wbs or doom reapers, over and over, and over.... without rares or things we take for granted, like sf cpu. even things like distance weapon and moto 3 will be tough to get at first. So you kill a ton of wbs, then have to trade your ass off to get a SF cpu and lib parts, or pain easer, or whatever.
Now remeber, to thoes of you who started on pluto in its first hours like I did, it wont be the same... weapons capped at 107% damage and much lower freq (ex, plasma rilfes were 137, now cap at 227, smgs were 233, now 370), 1 slot was fine. Cyclops dropped every level 3 cpu there was, and lots of them. wbs dropped a tech almost every time, and implant j's and k's all the time too. doom harbinger and storm bot could be sloed by a pe or hybred onk, without rares. So starting out with todays rules will be MUCH harder.
So the question is, your you go for it? After careful thought, ive decided no.... Ive started fresh twice, I dont think i could handle a third time. Now again, even if neptune did come, its far far off, so this may change, and at neocrons current pop, it will never happen unless DoY is a big hit, its just a "what if" question. So would you join a new server? it could be hardcore pvp rules or simply a fresh server same rules.

For sure, just imagine all the balance, all the fun of everyone leveling together. People having fights in PP with less than 5 chevs. Would be fucking great.

Eh... probably not now.
I can't imagine getting all my shit back that I have now (armor, rares, implants, bones, setup, etc.).
hmm... Im at a stage where my chars are almost capped all of em... Im so looking for a good reason to continue playing and having a new server with new rules, all newbies...im all for it. Would feel like a rebirth of neocron.
But then again. I only started from scratch once then worked my way up on saturn. People who have restarted on new servers from scratch several times might find this game abit boring in the long run.

If you have ever played any other game, you know how much of a joke it is to obtain items and cap a char in Neocron.
Oh and on a side note...Neocron needs to make the servers more unique then the language and characters.

RPers need to be on thier own, we piss them off by NOT rping.... they piss us off because RPing looks so, how can i say this... geeky to us.
Same goes with PVPers, no one uses the LE like they are supposed to so the pvpers and non-pvpers may as well be seperated.
All I know is that every game that seperates roleplayers, pvpers and normal players is a hell of alot more successfull then Neocron...I dont see a need for 3 servers that are basically all the same.

The loot drops have been updated so that the low and mid level imps drop again. A new server would be lacking things like the mendicant, junk knife, TL21 street model and TL59 gat pistol, but those can be worked around by the increase in damage/freq caps on the available weapons. Warbots drop level 3 imps quite frequently, too.
It wouldn't be that hard to start over on another server. It shouldn't take long to bootstrap a constructor capable of 94% base stat beginner weapons. I won't be doing it since I won't play without an LE, but plenty of others will.

I would probably roll a char on there. Perhaps not a complete move over. But junk knife fights in pp sound kinda amusing.
My hope for the server would be, maybe for a month, allow le's only...still no safe zones for the truly hardcore...but there should be a disclaimer. Anyone that joins that server for the first time, they should be warned that 1 month after the creation date of the char, the LE will disolve and they will have no choice but to defend themselves.
Of course, I don't know how easy that would be to code in, so it might be completely impossible. But for those that were to come along later after the server has been established, it could be a way for them to get themselves on a level playing feild before the carnage begins.
I don't know i see your point but i also see Carniflex... I a way i don't want to statt again, but in a equal way I'd like to.
Started again would be a challange, havin to get those things u mention again while getting ganked would be fun. It owuld bring back the NC i used to play and love. I like lvling in a way also ( don't laugh).
Making a new server for pvpers would bring me to meet the players that I've seen psot on the forums for a year now as well which would be kewl.
Yes I'm sure I'd play it, might just be a bit frustratign at first.

Until nearly a month ago now , the thought of creating a new char was very daunting, considering my first and only char until that time (soulblade) had taken me 10 months to cap and obtain all my wealth. No way was I doing all that again.
Then one day I was bored , (weekend we were waiting for PEPA) and after waiting around for several hours just chatting I decided to make an APU. (on a new server, id never been to before)
Well, I was really impressed. Within 5 days I had a holy lightning and was using it 8| Ever since then making a new charachter I can look upon as around a weeks powerleveling. (oh, and spamming trade to death for part, lol)
So, have a go, and make another char (on another server if you play on pluto) the prospect isnt so daunting once you know you can do it that fast. (you can probably do it a lot faster than every other time you've done it now)
I'd move if it was Neptune. Not if it was just another normal server.

Yes I MIGHT move there. But only as soon as it started. Yes it would be the third time I start over too, and that would piss me off. But...............it would be "new" for everyone. There would be no top clans for a good while with 100 capped members dominating the server. On saturn there was one point when I was leveling with 2 other peeps my level in the industrial sector, it was pretty fun. Now imagine the whole server having nothing and starting anew?
But then I also think to myself, the PAINFUL leveling and getting cash and having NOTHING to help you out at first. I don't think I could stomach that to be honest.
I can't stomach leveling anymore, and that's WITH help and WITH equipment, cash, and the right stuff. Also the stupid GR rules really makes me hate leveling now. I'm tired of going to CRP alone then dying then being "auto"sent to my apartment.
So I don't know vet, I don't know what the answer would be.

That state would only last for a week, if that. Good players/clanners know how to powerlevel a char to near-capped inside a few days. Add two more days to get a decent constructor, and they'll be capped before you know it.

I powerleveled chars before, but that was always with a ppu's help or equipment/cash I had from a previous char.
Since no one would have anyone to lean on.............. :p
It'd maybe prompt me to start playing again. I actually quite enjoy the low to mid levels. I'd have no problems doing the equivalent of level 20 again.
I would, however, probably lose interest around 75% of the way to cap. That's the point where things start to get very repetitive and while levels get further apart they also have less significance meaning I get less feeling of progression for much more work. I don't think I could be bothered to gain the last 4 points of Con again, or go through enough rare gathering to get all I want/need.
I could very easily do that part again if it were back in beta though. I never really got near caps in that, but still had a lot of fun and plenty pvp and op fights where I and my teammates had a chance of winning (using tl 50-60 weapons mostly). Some of that was because of the lack of specialisation and the difference between low level and high level equipment wasn't quite so pronounced. But a lot of it was just because people hadn't really worked out how to spec their chars yet. So it's not something we can ever go back to, I don't think.
I RP, a lot, i also PvP, a lot are you suggesting that i be forced to goto another server because im geeky?? O_o

I always liked the idea of a new server, specially a harcore one, no LEs and no safe zones, sounds awesome, and if in trade off i had to start again, then yes, i would.
The problem i have is in game, people who attack me usually end up dead, then they goto plaza 1 shouting there mouths off that i had ppu support O_o, interesting eh??.
If i could GR into plaza 1 smack the shit outa them, and GR out, i'd be a very happy bunny, Snipers would have an fucking awesome time in a no safe zone server, someones trading in plaza, BOOM someones dead in plaza..............my likes.

I believe you're seriously underestimating the time it takes to powerlevel characters once someone has a quality capped constructor and a decent reseacher. It would take about a day to get both of those, working in tandem. Once you've got quality capped on construction, figure a few days to powerlevel a PPU/APU/PE/Tank team.
If KK launched Neptune now, you'd see high ranking characters wielding rares within a week's time. It took, what, maybe two weeks for capped chars to pop up on Pluto after launch? Players have had a year to adapt to the new server rules and learn all the shortcuts.
No, all Neptune will be is a bloodbath. A 24x7 Q3A or UT2K3 server with a few clan-owned bitch characters to handle the tradeskill chores - Pluto taken to its inevitable conclusion.

Well it isn't actually TOO hard to start on a new server as it is currently. I would move there, probably cap a char then see whether or not it was more enjoyable then saturn.

i have been around for quite some time. o.k. for job reasons i havent in the last 4 month. Anyway, if a new server comes i will be there as well. I remember how proud i was when i was the first one to use a "rare" CPU and a "rare" weapon on the french server (madame O (PE with a SF and a Ray of God after about 1 week)). It realy is fun to start over on equal basics with everyone.
Suddenly a lvl 100 constructor is someone u realy need to look for, having some bones popped out means to search an abled poker....
To me (thats just a personal point of view) it remided me of old beta days and hell we did have lots of fun without any rare weapons (who remembers the all-120%-gat pistol as THE standard level weapon ?), without epic or other missions (except the chocolate bar thingie), without OP's and lots of other stuff that was either to hard to get or simply not in game.
anyway, if there is a new server- i will be there as well, for it gets boring to run around as a all capped tank, monk, sniper, hacker or whatever, be honest who can't remember the excitement he/she had with his/her first char getting the first lvl 3 armour or tech rifle or ....
new chars are fun, at least as long as you dont get killed every
few seconds by some bored high end char. Therefor i like new servers.

I would go to any new server just to play through the fresh low level atmosphere again and I would move to "neptune" if a serve were converted to it even if it werent wiped. A combination would make my pants tight.

Just make a droner/resser get a mate to make a droner/conster get to rg's and graves here we come then lom to whatever and get rich as everyone needs uber csters/ressers early on then lom tradeskill out and annoy everyone :p
dunno im kinda setteled in saturn, been there from start of retail, so its my home kinda.
i'd proberbly give it a go at least start leveling a bit, but its taken me a long time to get all the stuff i need for my chars, not sure id want to spend another 6 months getting fully kitted out tbh.
id would be kinda fun to see the noob sewers full of people again, i play cos ienjoy it, and as long as saturn is fun ill play there, but if everyone fucked off to Neptune then i proberbly would go there
As an observation, I think that when people say they can't stomach levelling again, well, that's not just in Neocrons case, that's almost every MMO game you can think of.
It's just sickening having to restart. I need to restart my D2 character, because I fluffed up, but oh my god I just cannot handle the thought of doing it all again.
Just don't make it look like it's Neocrons fault that you can't stomach re-levelling, every MMO has the same problem.

I don't think anyone really made out that Neocron was particularly bad for this or that it's the only one.
It's just the one we're on the forums for, so the one we'll be specifically talking about and using as an example.

even better, i would start NC again when a new server goes online.
I'd start a char there. I don't know about the LE thing, but im certain there should be no safezones. Safezones are just lame in principle IMO. I wouldn't wear an LE but i am thinking about tradeskillers. Of course it would be cool without LEs too. I imagine that with no Safezones and no LE's people would tend to retreat to their own bases. But they should fix the faction relations first. I think no anti-city should be allied with any pro-city, and vice versa, then it would be easier. If you are BD you have no place to go without getting gang-raped. Which might actually appeal to some people, so i say bring it on.
lots of freedom in a server like this, would be interesting. but it should be single char, if someone goes on a killing spree - well, they should have to endure the consequences of those actions. if someone is generally helpfull, well then they can enjoy the benifits of that.
it would be a tough environment --- I don't think I'd stay, but I'd keep a char there on sort of a "low simmer". it would be interesting.
also -- only if the whole busness schema changes and we get some new blood in the game. server populations can't tolerate being spread any more thin than they are right now.

That's the only problem I see with Neptune.....
I don't mind leveling new characters, but the locked GR rules kind of screw up my method of leveling, I like to level character's out in the middle of nowhere, with the rules the way they are I can no longer do that.
Since Netunes' going to be a 24/7 gankfest, I would need more freedom of movement, something I can't always get now, on the regular servers
Unless I get lucky enough to be in the right faction from the get-go....
Also, on Venus 1 or 2 clans controlled the entire map, with in a week of launch..
How about Neptune be:
No LE
No Safezones
No Safeslot
No Locked GR's

btw, I give Neptune about 2 months till people will get bored and start leaving, unless DoY brings alot more than a few new zones with it.....
I for one would move there.
I'd do it because it would be interesting to be on 'equal' terms with everyone - knowing if I put the effort in I would be able to hold my own for at least a while.
However, I have a fear that if Neptune did come around the first few weeks would be hell, purely due to people desperately trying to level everywhere and get more techs, etc.
Id rather change all the servers to this idea (http://neocron2.jafc.de/showthread.php?s=&threadid=81359), then to launch a new server. The ones moaning about how the streets have safezones can now pull up there weapons in every street now, and those who wants a safe place to meet your faction comrades and work, well can stay in their safe HQ.

I would most definatly start a char and cap him, its soo much fun when everybody is a n00b, and you dont need rares in the beginning because youll wont be fighting people with rares for a while. and the junk knive fights in the beginning of pluto were plain uber. probably the most fun ive ever had in this game.

I think the idea of neptune being one char is a bit flawed. I don't know, who's going to be a PURE tradeskiller on a one char PVP server?

I remember seeing a thread about DoY a while ago, asking about who was going to be what kind of character. Quite a few people who PvP a heck of a lot said they would be pure tradeskillers.

Nope i wouldn't move for gold.. i got my own clan my own things.. All items i got took ages to get.. spended months on that gun i wanted for ages.. i started playing on Pluto and the only way of getting me off it is they would close it.. and when they do i'll quit nc to..
I would move. Wealth is relative anyway, when everybody has very little then it doesn't take much to be rich.
