View Full Version : NeoLauncher PRO 2.0 - Beta testers needed!
For the upcomming NeoLauncher PRO 2.0 that will include Maarten's new (PPU) graphics (http://forum.neocron.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=77681) I'm looking for beta-testers.
What needs to be tested:
- Correct installation (directory detection, features (enhanced map, shortcuts, enhanced NC graphics), typos, etc...)
- Correct uninstallation (removal of all files AND features installed by NLpro)
- Most important is, ofcourse, if all features work OK.
- Other suggestions you might have.
What can go wrong:
- Worst case scenario is that you'll have to reinstall Neocron from scratch (making a backup of your patches and INI files makes this a 10 min job max - done it 4 times today already ;))
What can NOT go wrong:
- no harm CAN be done to your Neocron account!
- no harm CAN be done to your NLpro account!
- no harm CAN be done to the rest of your computer!
Anyone can give comments here. If you are interested in beta-testing please say so in your post. I will send the selected beta-testers a downloadlink to the 2.0 beta installation file.
i would be happy to....but i lost my orig NC disks ....so i dont wanna if there is a chance i will need to reinstall

OT: is/aren't the installation file(s) available for download??? They should be anyway. I have 2 ISO's here of the discs, but no space to share them... ;) (well, in fact i do, but that would eat up my bandwidth a bit to much)
other question.. what's this "brammers" i see every now and then??? ;) Something to do with my name or is it something else?? :D

been usin launcher pro since release... always up for helpin it evolve ^.^
I'm up for it.... But not before I ACE my entire NC directory and stash it somewhere safe. :D ;)
Speaking of which... I should probably VNC into my computer at home from work and get that started now...

id gladly beta it, i got a ppu monk, so id love to see the new icons ingame, and im a really fanatic user of your launcher

lol, I visited a friend that works at a computer learning center. In a room filled with about 30 comps, he had installed NC on all of them (since apparently more friends with accounts come over on the weekends :p).
My first thought was "OMG I need more accounts"... lol

Im currently using the NeoLauncher Pro and i love it, my registed name for NClauncher pro is the same as my forum and game name..and i have a ppu and apu so im already halfway there :D

Ok. I think I've enough people for now. There aren't that many things that have to be tested (mind: this is about the installer and some additional features, not the website used for NLpro).
All people who "signed up" will receive a detailed PM sometime tomorrow. I'd like the test results back sometime next week, but more info on how/when will be in the PM (don't want to "spoil" the people who are reading this :D).
Don't know for sure if it works on a test-server-patched-neocron installation. But I don't see why it shouldn't.
And there's no difference between the accounts coz those are for the website - not for "this" (=installer and features).
/edit:
By the way. Everything you'll receive will have to be treated confidentionally.... that's just an expression meaning that we dont want you to redistribute it or any parts of it (the enhanced graphics for example). ;) (this coz it's beta and we don't like people thinking our releases suck :D)

TO EVERYONE WHO'S DONE BETA TESTING.
Thank you all for your reports. Some of you haven't even replied. Others immediatly gave up with "enhanced graphics" bug (which can be bypassed by pressing "OK" enough times) and didn't even test the other futures.... :(
To the ones who gave me full report (and even some additional comments and suggestions): THANKS!
Ready for BETA2?
MightyMax has promised us that he'll release a new version of his ItemGFX that will fix the "enhanced graphics"-bug on wednesday. This will be included in the next beta.
One more additional feature will be implemented (very likely): "remove intro and outro splash screens".
Maybe more features if I receive more suggestions.
I still need some comments on what other 3rd-party software that has to be supported somehow. What are you guys using?

And about the splash screens either remove em or make em shorter its a lil long atm..;)

Already running 3 different version of NC anyway.
The one modded with Item Gfx.
The one using NC launcher Pro
and just a basic as backup.
Would love to be able to use mightymax item gfx with the nc launcher pro.

The GFX bug will be sorted out today, im just copying the modified sources onto my Home-PC (had them at work).
After i compiled them in an non-debug mode and released 'em ill PM you.

Just created an installation for the next beta of NLpro 2.0 (had to click almost 200 images..... TWICE!).. The IGI installs without any problems. But when I go and see ingame, many graphics have been replaced with the new ones, unfortunatly not he ones intended. So my holy spirit pants now look like 2 stacked Holy Heals. My Strengthen Heart is now a Creature Focus. Etc, etc, etc,..... :P

I have to talk about this with Mighty Max before I can even release a beta2... :p Sorry guys :(
(and yes. The "grahpics update" contains almost 200 individual NEW images! :D)

Since I didn't get that many "real" reports back last time (only 50% bothered to answer), I think I'll release it to some selected and proven people only. Sorry.

all the errors should be fixed. But _should_ is a real should ;)
You can DL it. Plz dont forget to include the file #190, since it has now a double use, and wasnt needed in the versions before.
The problem with only half responding ... its this way, i yet found nothing against this.

Not "just you" Tratos. It's nothing personal, and for all I know, you're the best beta-tester there is!
I was just a bit disappointed with the results I got back from my previous beta-testers....

finally got it working...
laying final hands on beta2 (dont expect any problems anymore, so final release will come *very* quick!). Beta2 will only be released to very few ppl since i dont expect any more problems.
maarten is finishing his armor graphics, final release will come sundaynight or mondayevening at last.

After you finished with the beta2 you really should look into the new scripting interface,
You could implement some features´your launcher is ideal for ... automatic trademarket, Updating the rarepool you link to automatically and so on :D

I'm happy that those errors are sorted out now. I'd be very interested in using them myself, but unfortunally ill not online for the mentioned days.
But i LOVE the items, the logo looks great (stylish like the beta2 CDs :D) and the launcher page is well sorted.

Ok... I've done some testing and I see no reason why I shouldn't release the 2.0 final today!
Well... that is the good news. The bad news: my FTP services are down so I can't upload...

Anyway. Here's a small features teaser:
- NeoLauncher PRO (required)
You already know this one. It replaces the website in your NeocronLauncher by one that's much more usefull (see for more info the "more info" link in my signature).
- Graphics update
This is what you've been waiting for! This contains all new graphics created by Maarten, about 200 in total including new graphics for PSI Spells, Armor, Bone enforcements and other misc stuff (much more than you've seen so far ;)) (more info (http://forum.neocron.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=77681&perpage=15&pagenumber=1)). Some of them are going to be included with the next retail patch, but some of them aren't. So I'm going to keep this in anyway.
- Enhanced crosshair
Much nicer crosshair/recticle. Found somewhere on these forums. If you're the author of this work, please contact me and I'll make sure you get the credits you deserve (or I wont include it if you dont want that).
- Enhanced worldmap
The one from neocron.ems.ru! I might even touch this one up a bit in the future.
- Shortcuts
You figure this one out... ;)
- Uninstall option
In case you cant handle all this coolness...
All options are optional (except the first one). And did I already mention the new uber sweet installer?! :D
