another thing that became oh-so-incredibly-cool lately is posting "blah j00 are all idjits, doy is never coming, its a hoax! hahaha kk just want you to keep paying!" whenever anything including the letters d o and y has been posted. and tbh im pretty sick of it.
so here we go, why dont we put it to a bet. heres the deal:
you believe DoY is a hoax? post here. if it turns out true, and DoY IS in fact a hoax, i will quit neocron alltogether (including the forums) and the first one of those, that signed here that mails me after its become clear, will get my account, paid for another 3 months. i enjoy neocron, with or without doy, so its not my way of leaving when doy does not come.
IF doy is NOT a hoax, and it turns out that YOU were wrong, i get YOUR account data for a 3 months paid account. and YOU leave the game and the forum.

I think that if this was a game like any others there would be 3 new city's up and running by now fo a loong time :/
We are nagging and whining for 1 new city and new content and new weapons and new genreps for a long time now, KK please start changing this game or there will be more and more people running away .... There are loads of good guys that almost MADE this game and now like 90% off em left :/
And i aint talking nerfing classes here, also not about removing kami's and removing larents, i mean adding extra stuff, like a few new city's and new mobs with never seen strenght and new weapons (tanks ring a bell) and more of that neat FUN stuff

KK is a tiny company with a (to be honest) crap publisher, MMORPGs like FFXI or SWG or EQ, have huge teams and resources behind them, things KK simply do not have, getting a handfull of people to produce several cities is a bit much, that said DoY should have been out ages ago.

If you look at the screenshot section of the Neocron website if you look at the DoY screenies it sais something like this in the description.
DoY expansion is expected to be realeased April of 2003 :confused:

DoY has gone from being released Q1 2003 and expected to double the current size of NC to like 3(yeah yeah exaggeration) new city zones expected 2004.
To be frank, whether it comes or not, it will still be too late for almost all my friends who quit NC.
couldnt care less when DOY comes i enjoy playing the game as it is, and they have been giving us small peices of what was to come with DOY, as i think originally the PAs where ment to be when DOY was released, so im sure other stuff will arive along the way.
but if anyones waiting for DOY to arrive before quiting you might as well quit now cos it aint gonna be some game altering expansion, some cool stuff will nodoubt arrive, but its still going to be neocron as it is currently(though hopefully by then the monk prob will be sorted;) )
DoY is so blatantly NOT a hoax. FFS they had the demo of the city running at that German games convention. DoY has been planned for well over a year and KK have said that it is coming, they are just waiting for a GOOD publisher to be able to completely relaunch Neocron. Trying to get some more people there....
I have seen DoY... in my dreams... it had fluffly clouds made of manly fluid, it had pink donkeys who roamed the plains looking for fresh rat meat, it had new advanced vehicles that don't suck... but most of all, it had non-fugly hookers... thats right boys, girls, rodents, fugly people... beautiful hookers... like Russian prostitutes in a 5 star hotel owned by the mafia... hookers that cost more then you can make exploiting the weak ass economy in a day...

No, they are working on DoY, and it truely will blow your socks off once it arrives. As I see it there would be no grounds to sue KK for not releasing an expansion pack that they said they would. Its their company not yours, you have no right to have DoY.
Thus I don't think that you could sue KK.... unless of course they were based in america, where you can sue for your coffee not having a warning label saying "Warning: Could be hot" on it. :rolleyes:

No, I don't think they've made DOY. I think maybe at one time they wanted to make an expansion, but they've since lost interest and dropped the project.
It takes this long to get a publishing deal - when nobody wants to publish the game!
I mean come on - what would a publisher interested in Neocron do.
He would:
A: Read the forums - "KK SUCK" "This Sucks" "That Sucks" "Nerf This" "Nerf That" "This is bugged" "That is bugged"
Publisher thinks - ok so the game is buggy but with some money in it they maybe able to fix it so he moves to step B.
B: He starts a character on Neocron.
What happens? His ganked, His abused, if he asks for help he is generally told "Fuck off you n00b" or "go shoot shit in the sewer"
He reads the description of the le and pulls it - what next? His shot, repeatidly. My wife started an account and pulled the LE so she could join the same clan as me. She had been playing for 2 HOURS, count them 2 fucking HOURS before she is not only shot by a 45/55 spy but the spy then proceeds to sex her.
C: He keeps going in the game thinking "maybe it's just a steep learning curve"
Things do NOT improve. You suddenly notice a massive lack of content - about 6 different dungeons populated with mobs you already seen (mostly bats - is MJS scared of them??). That's if he can get in the dungeon as half of them are in areas gaurded by some of the hardest mobs in the world - and at half of them he'll be shot on sight by other people!
At which point will the new publisher give up????
At which point will he think - well KK can't make a stable game and the community in there is a bunch of unhelpful, whinging 12 year olds who are too crap to play CS so feel the need to show how tough they are by making the game a nightmare for anyone new or wanting to have fun (before you say prove it - check the RL picture thread. It looks like a school yearbook nowadays)

@the MacDonalds thing: anything above 140 degrees F burns skin. Anything above 180 degrees F causes full tissue burns; 3rd degree burns. Water may boil at 212, but skin burns at 140. Coffee brewed at home is typically BREWED at 135-145. Coffee in most coffee shops is served at no higher than 155. Coffee at MacDonalds at the time was served at 180-200.

i know its not a hoax, mjs told me himself that they are talking to publishers, yes theres a s at the end, and its taking so long because they are tryin to get all they can get out of them, and they are talking to more than 1 so they can get exactly what they want. and i asked him to give me in his own opinion how far into talks they are, he said he thinks they are about 50% thru, that was about 2-3 weeks ago.
i know doy is real, we all know doy is real, just give them time , they wanna try to make it real and they want to try to get it to alot of people not just to us, they want the world to see it not just this forum

In regards to the coffee bit.
First off, the lady was a dumbass for holding the coffee between her legs.
However, her argument in court - was that the coffee cups did not encourage safe use and handling.
The cover of the cup (how it sealed the top), and the manner in which its poured in "under pressure" lead to the coffee being... Hotter than coffee should be.
She did not win because she spilled the coffee in her lap and got burned. She won because by sheer technicality, it was an unsafe practice of food service.
The judge did not fully side with her - only giving her a small portion of the money she asked for. He did however force the McDonalds store in question to review it's machinery and practices - which led to a total revamp of the national system.
Its not that Americans sue over stupid things.
The simple fact is - they're the cases which do get the media coverage; and the same can be said for all countries.

I think we need to stop arguing the McD's thing in thread. If you have a comment to be made regarding the lawsuit, take it to PM or make a new thread folks. We don't want this thread locked because of too many off-topic posts.
As for the Tazo "offer"
I have only a few things to say:
1) I personally do not believe DoY has been made.
2) Perhaps DoY WILL be made but it has not been already
3) The timeframe we're talking about for DoY is the time it would take to build it from scratch. If they started in January, they could have it done by April. So April 2004, isn't a realistic timeframe for this bet.
4) Of course the most important point. If you want someone to take you up on the bet, offer them something they'd actually want. People who don't like the game in it's current state don't want your account no matter how good it is. You could have 100 copies of every rare in existance and maxed out chars of every class and the offer would still suck a fatty.

i know publishers are a pain in the arse (personal experience) but it wouldn't stop you posting a few screenies up from inside or even a QA session in IRC about DoY!

Dude, don't even get into that whole "shows how much you know about game development" bullshit.
I used to work in game development early in my programming career. Now I work in pharmaceuticals. Even with the myraid of documentation we have to provide to the FDA, we could get 3 DOYs cranked out the door with full IQ, OQ, PQ testing, a multi-hundred page design specification document, functional spec document, URS, FRS, and a complete traceability matrix in LESS time. Wanna know why we could? Because we have to. There are clinical trials out there depending on our new software releases. Hundreds of millions of dollars on the line and our asses out the door if we don't deliver ASAP. No, we're not better developers, we just work our asses off non-stop.

Nope, in all I've seen game developers don't have to stick to timelines. Or rather, even if they're supposed to, they don't anyway.
As for similarities in how we split up development, we only have a couple folks working on actual codework at a time. Other developers work on GUI design, others work finalizing user requirements for each build, some folks work on compliance with 21 CFR part 11 standards, some guys are DB admins, etc. The team is split up just as a game development team is split up.
And I must say, this certainly isn't standard software development. This is pharmaceutical software development. No industry has stricter guidelines and standards than pharma does. Not even defense contractors (I have a friend over at Lockheed).
As for number of users, we're talking hundreds of thousands spread across over a hundred countries worldwide. All of them have to connect to a central database, so in truth, the software we're working on has many similarities to the inner workings of an MMORPG.
If it doesnt arrive by my Birthday (3rd Feb) Im gonna hang up my hat for good and throw all my kit from a location to be decided later, cash cubes worked I could throw loads of them too

I think this thought is do to the fact that DoY is always a month away or around the corner it has been since day 5 since I started playing this game.
I dont think you have to much to lose cause DoY will always be coming. I really dont have to much faith in doy seeing as there is only a few screens on it no real information on the game like any other expansions have before they come out.

have been highly detailed on new mobs,wepons,skills and new chars and all this info has come out long before the release of the game.
All I have really seen on doy is a few screens nothing to make me go oh shit thats amazing. People calling it a hoax is just a exageration of the fact that it is always coming yet never has arrived.
Maybe Reakkor wants to keep the DoY expansion a surprise.
A few things that are going to be in it have been said, some things that were going to be in DoY have been released into the game now.

Wouldn't suprise me even tnhough the smart thing is to get as many people to see the preview as possible and get them all interested in it.
But hey this game would have ever server full and more than there is now if it was handle right.
