The Combat Mission games are some of THE best WW2 strategy wargames available. They provide a challenging test of realistic combined arms operations in WW2, and accurately reflect units mathematically, down to armour penetration (even the weak point at the turret coupling in Tigers), weapon weights and morale.
The graphics have never been the big selling point. They represent the units well enough, and the backgrounds look good. (photo realistic graphics ARE are a good idea for some genres).
Try playing a few games of Combat Mission and you will change your mind about this excellent series of games.
BTW if you are encouraging 4 year olds to use the word twat (remember, a twat is just a prettier cunt.....) you may want to reevaluate your parenting skills. Or perhaps you were joking.......

The graphics may not be a selling point, but Combat Mission is entering its third instalment. Is there a Neocron 2 anywhere?
Combat Mission is actually similar to Neocron in terms of who it's aimed at - both are aimed at specific people rather than one size fits all games like Command and Conquer, Quake, Unreal, Everquest etc.
While NC goes for the cyberpunk, with FPS/RPG combination, Combat Mission aims to be a realistic simulation of WW2, unlike the average build base, build lots of tanks, drive tanks into enemy base style strategy of C&C.
I can't believe people who play Neocron so much are complaining about the graphics though TBH.
And Shujin is correct, the background is photo realistic because it's a photo. :)
Again, I will intercept here to point out, like several others have, that if you judge a game by its graphics, you are a poor shell of a being.
I've played the CM games a few times, and I love them.
They are historically correct, and allow for perfect re-enactments or battles that you simply can't attempt with any other game.
True, they could look better, but the amount of effort involved in the actual gameplay is astounding, and wins hands down over anything else in my opinion.
It's the same as Steel Panthers. Shocking hexagonal turn based game. Still the best ever made, and I play Steel Panthers II to this day. 40,000 point battles of perfect statistical detail.
Fantastic.
Nothing like watching the great British army with its entire companies of Challenger Tanks crushing the Mujhadeen with their trucks and camels.

But I also point out that CDV does not sell games... Though it would be prudent for them to.
Now the previous one was done by CDV - but I do not beleive the first one was... could be mistaken.
Anyway, these people just shot themselves in the foot - and without lots and lots of ads and reviews the one possible saving factor, the graphics, is consequentially lacking.
All of that = low player base.

All 3 were published by CDV. I have the box for the first one right here.
And they've had consistently good reviews from PC Gamer, because the reviewers can see a bit more into a game than the average person posting in this thread. :rolleyes:
If you're gonna have top notch games out today, the graphics have to be good. No more lame excuses of the type "omg the 3d industry is evolving so rapidly" blah blah blah. Graphics need to be up there with story and content. If it lacks in those departments, you know something's wrong with it.
Oh and TBH, I'd much rather play D-Day WW2 combat #59038459038450867 than something that was so covert and out-of-picture (intentionally) where the main part wasn't even as exciting as the British-German part was.
No disrespect to veterans who did their jobs on southern part of the map in the 1940's, but being realistic about what's "fun" to do (gee, my guess is games are for fun) I don't really see what's so great about playing an unglorified part of history.
Oh, did I mention graphics were a joke?
They already covered the British/American/French/Polish/Canadians vs. Germans in the first game. The second covered the Eastern Front with Russia, and now they're doing Africa, with Rommel's Afrika Korps fighting against Montgomery's forces. There was as much decisive fighting in Africa as there was in France.
(OT: Not quite, Benjie, you forgot Seifer Almasy in the back of the shoot. :p

Of course, but only the centralised part got famed. And fame ain't fair. My suggestion to them would be to stop hanging around those games and actually spent some money on advertising NC. Woulda made more money I reckon :p

I have to agree with 2(?) other posters in this thread. I own CM1 & 2 and they are good games.
But you wont be suprised to hear that they are quite difficult to find (no one seems to stock them) and I'd never heard of either until a magazine review of the second one (so they must be CDV games) - interestingly in the last few weeks Game (UK retail store) seems to have found their shipping hiding at the back of a warehouse somewhere because all 4 Game stores (yes 4!) currently have CM2 in stock (bearing in mind its quite an old game now)
