I'm lost now.

And please clarify.

Like if i have 75 resist energy HOW MUCH % of damage reduction does that GIVE. 20% damage reduction from energy damage? 50%? 80%?

Neocron.ems.ru doesnt help so dont tell me to look there as i have no idea what they are talking about.

Not 100% sure if this is right, but heres the link to a spread sheet that tells u. http://www.jg.dodv.de/temp/NC-Resi.xls (click yes when a message pops up to get it working right).

Too confusing for me. lol

As a Tank I just get all my resists around 150 and that should be good enough (- Poison).

But how does it work...

how much does 20 energy resist decrease damage?

Every other game makes it ovious from what ive seen.... this one doesnt.

Yea, in this game it's not obvious how they work. go to http://neocron.ems.ru (no www) (http://neocron.ems.ru)

Basically, armor resists give more resists than puting skill points into resists. Resist skill points add a fraction of their total value to the armor skill. The cap for natural resists is 114 points. Dont' put any more than 114 points into one resist. It would just be useless. an the web site, hit the link about resists and armors, gives a nice table, and if your resists arn't one of those nice numbers, the math should be fairly easy to figure out.

20 energy resist, counts as 18 armor (20 times 0.9), which then counts as 12% damage reduction (66% of 18).

The resists stay linear until you reach an defense value of 100 (Being counted from both your equipped armor and resists), after that it get's a bit odd, as depicted in this table:

Defense | Damage Absorbed
-------------------------
100 | 66%
125 | 71%
150 | 73%
175 | 75%
200 | 76%

Numbers might be off a bit, they're not tested properly.

Normally one point in a resist skill is equal to 0.9 armor, but as with the defense value, it get's odd after 100.

Resist | Armor added
--------------------
100 | 90
101 | 97
102 | 101
103 | 103
104 | 105
105 | 107
107 | 110
110 | 114
114 | 119
114+ | 119

If you're more into approximate numbers though, then just use the following formula: damage absorbed = ( armor + ( resist skill * 0.9 ) ) * 0.66

Wait... so 50 Resist Energy is equal to 45, then if theres 50 from armor, thats 62.7% damage absorbed?

50 * 0.9 = 45

50 armor + 45 * 0.66 = 62.7% is that correct?

here..ill try to simplify this...

1 resist point = ~88% (.88) of an armour point (APPROX the true value changes for every level of resists)

This is true until you hit 103 resists at which time..

1 resist point = 1 armour point

After 103 the armour value of a resist point slowly increases until..

1 resist point = 1.04 armour point..

so basically if your resists are between 0 and 102 multiply by .88 or .9 to find the true armout value of them, then add that number to what your actual armour (pants helm bones etc etc) gives you. This is your true Armour Value.

Now..the first table on that page lists "Armour Value" this is the converted resist number and armour number combined (as stated above). so now for an example..

You have 90 energy resist so to find the true armour ...

90*.9=81 armour

We also have 60 energy from armour so..

81 + 60 = 141

According to the table 141 armour value gives between 71% and 73% absorbtion (because its somwhere between the listed values of 125 and 150) Meaning you are still taking between 8.75% and 9.44% of the damage. NOTE: Resists take place AFTER steel skin (66% player damage blocking) is calculated...

so saying a gun does 100 damage a shot steel skin knocks it down to 33 damage...and we take lets say 9% damage even from whats left(right between 8.75% and 9.44%) 33*.09=2.97 so you take about 3 damage from that gun.

I know its still complicated..but i tried to go through step by step..hope i help :\

*Reads through sigma's explanation*

I knew .ems.ru was fucked up when it came to resists.
I just never realised why before.

Guess I should thank you :p

I wont explain what I know about resists since it seems everyone else assumes they work differently.

ems.ru. is okay for a rough guide but whether it's because of bad english, or wrong maths, it's wrong.

my advice is get on the test server and experiment with NATURAL Consitutition and Strength resist numbers THEN Add armor to your experimentation once you have done all the testing.
Test with weapons like
Beam Of Hell.
Silent Hunter.
Single shot weapons that you can control the zone in which they damage, with no random damage factor (we used to test with PSI Spells but they don't work well for testing anymore).

This is part of the game, especially for the PE, don't ruin it for yourself too much :p
Try to find something you're comfortable with rather than something that is uber in a certain area or another.

heh well i mightve done math wrong.. in any case id ont beleive ems is entirly right..and i dont beleive the silly GM concocted theory of armour only counting towards 4% of your resistance is right either..but from my experience....ems is..MUCH...MUCH..closer and generally using it as a guide with some of my own tweaking ive gotten some VERY satisfying numbers.

The truth is between the two, actually.
You can configure your CON in such a way that no matter how much armor you do have, it can only add 4% resistance.
Or you can use both armor and CON to get yourself up to 76% in a more balanced approach.
My PE uses both to a certain degree to allow it to get close to caps before shelter and over the caps (by a small degree) after shelter :)

Much better, now I understand slightly more :)

And now I know my tank has too much Energy resistance.

At least I think he does.

90 in armor and 75 in skill.

114 is the cap isnt it?

Either way, I'll be sure to rework my resists later when I feel my chars are ready :)
