well you wont get into harvard but yea, a general education degree is just as good as long as you play it right.

you may have to go to a 2 year community college then transfer to finish at a regular college. It all depends on your GPA.

You can always go blue collar and attend a tech school. There is always room for mechanics, A+ computer guru's and whatnot.

Hell, you can be a nurse or a x-ray tech. all these are blue collar jobs that are perfectly attainable with a GED and a techical school.

Like to eat? Be a chef!

Join the military. Well. maybe not. These days the military is everywhere except at home where you can game. You can join at 17 with a GED and a parental consent. Otherwise you will have to wait until you are 18.

this 2 year community college thing... would it be added on to regular college years and would i have to take it if i decide to goto alternative school (tech school)?

thx

I'm not sure if your community college courses will transfer to your tech school curiculum. Maybe some of your core classes will (IE english 101 or something similar)

Most Tech school curiculum consists of what you want to specialize in plus core classes like algebra and english. If you want to specialize in computers you MUST know math. I'm taking a network admin course and it asks for trigonometry and college algebra. that's because im learning to code. It all depends on what you are taking now in your community college and what you want to specialize in at the tech school you are considering.

2 year community college is to work on your basic skills that you left off in high school.

you would take college pre-algebra, english 101 and so forth. Community College is mostly for raising your GPA and getting you smart enough to attend Regular college so you won't bomb out.
It concentrates on core classes. Depending on the school you go to and their accreditation, you may be able to transfer the credit.

Avoid online colleges. Most of them have shitty accreditation and you wont be able to transfer your credits.

Accreditation is group of colleges that have agreed to accept each others college credit in the case that you want to transfer.
For instance, most of the schools in the east are part of the same accrediation, same goes for southern school or schools in the west coast. There are instances where west coast school are part of a east coast accreditation. Your HS guidance counsellor has all this info in her books.
Talk to your Guidance counsellor in your High School and ask these questions. I'm sure this person can give you way better advice than the general advice i can get you.

You even qualify for Pell grants and other free money. You won't get a 100% scholarship into Yale but there is something out there for everyone. As long as you arent being kicked out of HS for flunking out and being 21 you should be fine. If you have a 2.0 GPA and above you may qualify for school grants.

Nothing wrong with GED's. I have a friend who couldn't complete
highschool because of real life crap, transfering from school to
school didn't help him much. He took the GED tests and scored
extremely high. Right now he's at a 2 year community college
which his tuition was all payed for him. Right now he has almost
completed his 2 years and is on the verge of transfering to a 4
year university. If you play it smart you'll do fine, there will be
people out there that frown on a GED because it doesn't meet
their "standards" persay but mostly because they don't think
it's good enough which it very well is and on par with SATS.

As for the military, GED's were originally created for world war
vets who never got a chance to complete highschool because
of the draft or foreigners (citizenship) for that matter. So the
military would more than likely accept it since it was originally
created for them anyhow.

Good luck.

My bro got his GED. Then ended up joining the Army. He still qualified for all the cool shit, but there was something that he did not get a chance at because of it...

Depends on why your dropping out. It depends on your GED score
(sometimes, depends where) and HS GPA. I have a girl "friend"
who had a 3.X GPA with HS diploma and ironically she's going to
the same community college as my friend with his GED. Although,
my friend had to dish out 10 grand, she's going for free because
of her gpa.

You can goto a university, it depends which one etc. Community
college is not mandatory, it's up to you. Some people find it easier
to goto a community college and then transfer to 4 year, as my
girl "friend" is doing currently.

If you don't have to drop out then don't, get your fucking grades
up man. If you just can't stand highschool then that's not a good
enough reason to drop out, just remember that a regular diploma
and a ged are both worthless pieces of paper unless you put
either to good use.

But seriously its like impossible to be rejected from a 2 year school and from there you can transfer to anywhere if you get good grades.

Take your SAT too, and even ASVAB, that helps a lot.

Marx

Yeah, decent ASVAB scores mean you're not a twit, and decent SAT score mean you payed attention in math and english

:D

I agree with what Chris Rock calls it.

Good Enough Diploma.

I can understand of something bad happens that prevents you from completeing high school, but unforunately there's a lot of people that abuse it and just say "meh, fuck it, why waste two more years in high school when I can study for this in less than a month?".

Officially yea CC...some employers will always be discriminative...as for A+ Certs you couldve gotten those last year for 200$, I'm sure theres a vocational school in your area somewhere, and most of them are easy as hell to get into.... Really the only problem I've heard a GED gives you is going to come from higher end unis...hard ass twats they are, but GPA and standerdized tests scores are gonna help you out there. hmm..wonder what theyd think of my 2.* GPA and 98 percentile+ in all testing... o.0

Depending on why you dropped out..if you got a couple hundred $ per year and atleast one semi intelligent reletive...home schooling is always an option.

And ivory GED is much simpler then w0t yur doing at uni..ofcourse uni is secondary education..GED can give you no such comparable certifications :P

Also - it depends on how old you were when you got your GED.

Some states say you can't take the course until X age, while others don't have that.

So you have some 10 year old kids in states that dont have the 'super smart kid diplomas' with GED's

rofl..
Have fun finding a "semi intelligent relative" in your family tree....:p

:wtf:

The sooner you can get out socialist American school system the better....

@Marx, the minimum age to take a GED in Ohio is 18...

This is true.. High School is nothing compared to the shit you'll have to deal with once you get out. Hell, I would love to go back to my senior year where I didn't do jack in school but joke around, and play games every free minute at home.

Socially, high school can be one of the toughest times in person's life. The peer pressure can be insane, not to mention that some of what some kids routinely do to others borders on criminal. o_O

Kids can be so cruel at times, it puts adults to shame.

That being said, I'd say stay and get your diploma. There's something to be said about "toughing it out" so to speak.

Also, just remember that the A+ is nothing but a peice of paper. The only way to backup that peice of paper is by experience. The stuff they test you on is really basic.
