Before u got retail, did u ever play the offline demo of NC? U probably did, and many of u played Beta too. They were great. They showed promise. I only realised recently that to make weapons in the demo, you used different parts and mechanisms like pistol barrel, and injector etc insted of the lame Weapon Part 1.
U woke up in the middle of a TG attack, and had to hack and shoot ur way out, and then assist the storm bots with some ammo, then help kill those TG. It was great!
Yes the demo was offline, singleplayer, but it had a little story in a futuristic world. It was this that married me to the game. Then Beta was the icing on the cake.
Beta showed me a huge world, no stupid PPUs, bashing rats, watching my char grow up. It was great!
Now we have retail that though looks the same on the surface, is a different and boring game to me. So much was promised, but nothing was given.

I only wish that it could go back to what it was (not the bugs though). I only wish that DoY will be its saviour.
But if DoY brings nothing of interest, i believe that NC will flop and die.
As someone has said it would be great if they made a server off an old beta version. then we could compare.

Is it possible to crack the beta version someone? I got it on some old DVD :D

was playing the offline demo other day while i couldnt get online.

its funny you look at where the points have been placed, and if you done that now cos of specialisation youd be screwed.

just one of many things that have changed since the early days

The old offline demo was MINT!

I still have the old offline demo installed for the following reasons;

One. the story line was wicked (as u said wakeing up in the middle of the TG attack)

Two. Plaza one was destroyed , YAY!

Three, you start as a 2 star PE type char, with a wicked Texture and real multi skills (i love variation)

Four, yer the construction was cool with all the different parts to make that rocket launcher!

The ofline turorial was ok.........

I also was in Beta 4, were i started to get my addiction to NeoCrack :D

The old days were great, but seriously i dont think that DoY will fullfill those dreams it would take MASSIE changes to the game to get those kind of effects.

No lare variation for us in the near future, sorry lads, but you just have to face the facts and stop hopeing for something that proly wont happen! :(

Mmm, now if only NC had that sort of storyline now (No offence Callash). There really is nothing engaging in this game anymore apart from the rare occurences of an event.

And yeah the offline tutorial wasn't special but that was part of retail. the offline demo however was great.

This game needs a huge event, i mean, HUGE.

Like an event, that lasts like 48 hours, and all the events are linked, say....

An army of DoY bots and DoY guardians come to all 3 opf the NC gates at the same time, destroying the STORMs and ripping through the doors, assault NC, bang bang next 2 STORMs down, then they proceed through the OZ subway, into the subway, through the subway tracks, blow the shit outta the subway cars, CityAdmin take the difficult decision to blow the subway, BOOM, everyone in subway dies, the whole place is wrecked, but the DoY bots and guardians keep coming, heading straight for Via Rosso and Plaza, CityAdmin declare a state of emergency, and all sectors within Plaza and Via Rosso become warzones, and all security forces in Pepper Park flood to Plaza, to backup the rest of the Copbots, at the same time, all guards of the anti-city factions, turn on the Security, causing massive battles between guards in Pepper Park, including staff from Yakarma.

Meanwhile in plaza, the DoY bots and guardians no longer attack DoY allies with weapons drawn, instead, they fire at only Pro-CityAdmin, and urge all who oppose CityAdmin to help them fight.

Or something ^^ but im talking big, big, BIG!

Would be nice for some long events, about 1/2 the time I miss then because of something random. However events like that require massive amounts of helpers, planning, and ect. Considering the main guys who do the story work are not even employed by KK, I think they are doing fine. If KK wants to start paying them then perhaps I'll bug them a little more for this.

was wondering if its possible to "code" up an event and jsut let it run by it self w/o the need for GMs? that way we get our fun and the GMs can take a rest... u know like that massive attack idea aforementioned... stuff like that... where u jsut do a server side patch, place in spawn points and stuff and patrol coordinates and voila... insta-event! and u dunt need to announce it either... make it some like suprise assualt by doy or somehin like that...

I missed signing up for beta 3 by a couple weeks. Got the offline demo and played that two or three times a night afterwork. Sometimes more.

I jumped for joy when I got accepted for Beta 4 and then again in the closed beta 4.

I was in awe playing the demo, it had something that I can't describe. Then, my first days in beta were incredible. Met a guy who built me my first kevlar vest and some boots. Gave me a built knife for free cause I bought the other stuff. Then, I ran into him later. He was flat broke, no weapons or armor. I gave him his knife back. ...oops. Back on track.
Those were the days.

I was thinking about the demo the other day. Wouldn't that be a cool event?
1. People in Plaza 1 at a certain time are the only ones able to join.
2. They blow up Plaza 1, and a group of TG players get ported in by a GM. Then, it's turned into a Warzone for a while so everyone can fight. No guards, copbots, npc's doing any fighting. If one side or the other is a bit weak, then another GM can pick a few people to add to it.
3. Plaza 1 would remain a mess for a while, but eventually the zone would revert back to the original.
They could do the event by making a special zone for the battle. Then, overlay the damaged one on the regular one during a server refresh. That way, anyone else who logged out there could log into the regular plaza and leave or whatever.

It's similar to the demo, probably sounds kinda lame. But they could use those ideas for other events in other areas.

Edit: just reread a couple of the above posts. They beat me to it.

I don't think I ever tried the retail tutorial 'cos I always thought it was the offline demo. Is it not?

Nope, the offline demo has the "Tangent, in guns we trust" voice contacting you via some radio link in your head. You are Agent Jon Parker, City Admin.
It spans about three zones. and a section of the "old subway".

The Tutorial is more of a 10 minute seminar on what you can do. Kinda like the "training" that you get when you first play the original Half Life.
It gives you a taste of the game, and what you can use at higher levels, but it hasn't got the 'aura' of the offline demo.

Ah, OK. Amazing I never tried it. I think I read somewhere it was just the old demo (which I had played far too many times) so I never ran it. Might give it a go now just for completeness sake...

/edit - I think that is relatively new. In fact I vaguely recall them saying a while back that it had changed. IIRC the launcher did include the demo for a long time and that version was put in around the time of MC5. Someone else might be more certain but the more I think about it the more sure I am I've played the demo post-retail as I remember playing it on my laptop on a bus and I didn't have that laptop pre-retail.

DUDE!!!! I was thinking about seeing how to start a Beta server again, but have no clue how to get the needed info from the old beta client. If anybody could supply me with this I can use my old TFC clan server to get something going (poor poor clan is dead now). I'm not sure if I'lll need to write some of my own protocol or what but I'm all for it. Nid is this legal or is there something I'd have to do for you guys?

Hahaha with an event like that I'd be _up_ for 48 hours, and would miss school. I can never pry myself away from events :D.

people still have the old beta CD's...

they could just use those, fix some of the bugs...call it a new server.

make it so specialization is WAY LESS...etc...

I doubt its legal though and as it prolly isn't they'd only have a few ppl on a server which would be pretty boring.

Right, but is there like a right click on neocron, select start you're own server option or something  I just don't know how to actually get the server side up

You can't.

You'd have to rewrite the whole game.

wrt legal position - MJS confirmed last time this came up that in the unlikely event someone even tried KK would sue them.

FatDogg
19-10-03, 20:42
sue me:confused: maybe I can pay them off.... Say 100,000 NC?

NC needs lot more storyline based events... there should be action almost every night. I think it would keep more players in NC

Damn Right,
If the event you described happened a day or 2 before DoY was launched it would be like a rebirth for the game, every thing could change if neocron was trashed.

Agnt

There should be events witch actually has somekind of meaning for everyone. Most ppls really dont even bother to go events because of no pvp rule ect. Events should be faction based and when event is over, those who lost will still suffer after the event.

Exsample.

DoY decides to attack MB theres lots of doy bots, guardians ect. ect. attacking mb. Now also citymercs are alerted and lot more 80/80 guards shows up. All doy allies are alerted to fight for mb and all cm allies can help cm to defend it. Now if CM wins, everything stays like it was. However, if CM will lose, they will lose control of their own base! GR gets locked and those 80/80 CM guards will be replaced with doy guards and doy controls the mb untill cm takes it back.

Samekind of attacks could be in nc, tg, th or doy. theese would be true events and all runners are motivated to fight, because they now have something to lose.

Exactly, the neocron world has been pretty much the same since retail began, give or take a few npcs etc etc.

If stuff like that happened weekly it would add so much more depth to the gameplay and politics.
