View Full Version : Falling damage? (Warning: large images)

I was out at Tech Haven recently testing a theory I had about falling damage. It was my thought that it is now impossible to die from falling damage. To test this I endevoured to find the highest point from which I could drop and cast myself into the abyss.

This shaft is the longest fall I could find. If anyone knows of a longer drop, please tell me.

And... smack! Notice my health (outlined in green).

And just a moment later I've bounced up to full.

So, it seems to be true that no matter how hard one might try, you're just not gonna kill yourself will falling damage.

It's kind of a minor point, but this irritates the piss out of me. Bring back the old falling damage.

nice pics :D

i dont mind it the way it is now, i mean if we talk about realism then its silly but at the same time how many people could take a headshot from a sniper rifle if it was realism.

if falling damage was calculated serverside and not client side, that wouldnt mess with the yoyo bug 'fix' but allow you to die from falling.

however, if the server thinks you have fallen, when actually you havent, you could just drop down dead

Nah, you could never die from falling, because they removed that so you couldn't level your CON.

The Dying when you fall a long way thing was another showing of the bounce bug, you died client side even though the server said falling = no damage.

When they fixed the health bounce bug that included dying from ghost damage that shouldn't have been taken from falling.

This is a side effect of the Liberator "fix"

You see the way the game calculated damage before the Liberator fix was. The client of the aggressor would calculate the damage then send it to the server, then the server would send it to the client of the person getting shot.

Now the server calculates damage. Well, I dont want to get into hardcore details but yeah this "bug" has been around for a while.

Also before the "death is only serverside" fix you used to be able to die, if you did hit 0 life, even though the server knew you still had full life.

I'm torn on the subject, on one hand you should be able to die, on the otherhand its also a pain in the ass :p

Liberator fix

It effected everything, it's the thing that changed my PE from being able to take 1.5 Copbot bursts to nearly 6...

Uhm... this place may not ne the best place to test it.

As far as I know this drop is "tricked" and you cant die from it. This was also *before* the client-server fixes. You should find another drop and test it there. ( <--- This IS true. I tested it many times (first time was an accident though :D) and there has even been a topic about it).

That wont be to hard. Just have someone shoot you to ~10 healt and jump of plaza1 skywalk or something.

Go to Soliko, isn't it? Big drop there. God knows I copped it a few times there by accident. Damnit.

All you need is some horizontal speed and *splat*.

Try it on high cliffs on the wasteland. I've died many times falling that way.

Try going to the top of the TH sec-1 grav lift. You'll notice a hole on the side of the elevators which you can free fall to the ground from. I did this figuring it'd be a nice shortcut instead of taking the horrendously slow grav lift down.. ya, I died. :)

From what I understand now, and from the results of the thread starter's experiences, you can NOW not die from fall damage.

By "now" I mean since they made death server-side (how THE HELL was that not implemented in the first place - death is one of the most important things in the game, and yet you made the client (which is subject to hacking and whatnot) tell the server whether it has died!?!

But anyway, back to the point. You seemingly do not get ANY damage from falls. Go for a medium jump. You'll see that your health takes a hit, and then bounces back up.

What used to happen was if you took so much fall damage, your health would be zero, and the client would say you had died, whilst the server adds the health back on - as seen from the medium height jump. But now that death is server side, you shouldn't die. Ever.

I hope that makes sense...

I used to drop via the lights next to the grav lifts in TH. Much faster than using the lifts themselves, and better than dieing :) Although now it's pointless. Shame really.
