ok heres my prob, i bought a broadband router yesterday, installed it all fine, my internet sharing is ok (i have 2 desktops atm, waiting to add my laptop).

Thing is i want to share the Hardrive of my main pooter and share files, unfortunately the main computer can see teh shared docs of the slave, but it just gives an error when u view it, and u cant see naything shared on the main pooter. Ive run the stoopid networking wizard but this causes the router to tilt as i think it alters the tcp/udp settings and u end up not having any internet.

This is my first attempt at this sorta stuff so if theres any1 that works in tech support on this kinda stuff or a sys admin that can give me some ideas on how to manually configure to share, could u please post :)

right click on the drives on both machines, then select properties, then sharing, then select the appropiate settings.

i think thats right.

hope your not using XP :p

EDIT: i think you have to do it for some folders as well

First thing I'd check is the network properties. Ensure that file and printer sharing is selected in the network connection properties. Once that is installed the next thing would be to go to my computer, right click on the hardrive you want to share and select sharing. Set a name for the harddrive or the folder you want to share. This should make them available. Note this will have to be done on both computers. Also both computers need to be on the same workgroup for example MSHOME is the default in windows xp. The network wizard should have set this up, but I'd check it anyways.

hope this helps

ok for that problem what I had to do was in the network setup wizard I selected the primary computer as this computer conencts directly to the internet and the other computers conenct to this computer to connect to the internet. After that you go to the second computer and set it up to connect to the first pc to get to the internet. Finally for this to work they have to be on the same workgroup. If this doesnt make sense please tell me where you are getting stuck at.

ok i can ping other comp, there both on same workgroup now. 1 comp can see shared docs on the other but if u try and open it , it says network path not found see administrator. My computer can only see itself in the workgroup. Man i hate XP
