the paper also shows, that this can make learning a second laungage harder, as your mind keeps trying to tell you what the word should look like or be..

and that why you learn easyer as a child, because you've not grown so used to the words and such...

This might not work because of the medium it's on, but read this paragraph:

If the cat is sat on the mat, is is it comfortable or not?

Probably wont work mind.

Tell me what's wrong there.

No, but you get a damn good thrashing.

When I was sitting my induction for security, we were shown that paragraph on a plain white background in large black letters. Took fifteen of us over six minutes to spot that fault.

The brain doesn't register it, and automatically blanks it out, because it doesn't need to be there.

Like certain colours, you only see them because your mind puts them there, as it's what it expects to be there.

Yeah i've had to go through stuff like that.

A good tip for anyone trying to spot things like that is to read the sentance backwards, and it's easier to pick up stuff like that.

The most interesting part is that JWZ did a script for it.

Are you sure? Because you're supposed to still get the first and last letters in the right place.

slowed me down a *bit* i usually see sentences not words, but then i read about 500 wpm :p so i actually had to "read" each word. quite disconcerting actually

interesting though.

i got the second is thing 2nd attempt but then i was looking for something wrong

Heh, read that fine.

Remember that what's also important is the way you have learned to read.
An old friend of mine and his brother couldn't tell what a new word was, due to that way that they had been taught to read by word shapes rather than the letters. With time they were ok though.

Quite frankly this research isn't that surprising.
