Any time you want me
Any time at all
Any time you need me
All you gotta do is call

Any time you want me
Any time at all
Any time you need me
All you gotta do is call

I'm no dog or a dolphin
I just don't live in the sea
You feel my flow and you flood my brain
Show me a vision you wild apparition
And sink to the depths of your soul

One love, we don't need another love
One love, one heart and one soul
We can have it all
Easy, easy do do do do do

Any time you want me
Any time at all
Any time you need me
All you gotta do is call

You put me one step clear of the chain gang
And two miles over the line
All the scenes I saw left me wanting more
Show me a vision you wild apparition
And sink to the depths of your soul

One love, we don't need another love
One love, one heart and one soul

Your fruit's in season
And these feet fall surely sound
And what goes up must come down
Turns into dust or turns into stone do do do do

Obscure as in something that won't give any results when you type lines of it into a Google search (People offering 100k for an answer are going to be very poor very quickly). :D

Ty sir for this information, im gettin a bit desperate so know i know i dont have to look at the forum like every 30 minutes to see if its there allready or not, for this week that is

Eddie
16-09-03, 19:04
Thanks Thanatos for the update.

But again... Why can't you release patches that are small and frequent instead of trying to whack as many features into a new patch as techincally possible? Can't these new things that CoDi is finishing wait? Or will there be another long stretch before you release the next patch, and something really big really needs to be fixed?

It has been a massive while since the last (retail) patch was released: it really needs to be more frequent than this.

Sorry, I just had to rant about this great idea. Again.

Eddie

P.S. True.. it just so happens that the Spy PA is included in this patch, and I want it very much :P

Well, besides some "behind the scenes stuff" (GM related), he's working on a encryption method using hardware IDs for the passwords stored in the registry. If he gets that done, we'll revert the "type password every login" change.

While I would love not to have to retype my password in each time, IF that is the only thing holding up the patch, I'd rather get the current patch now and type my password in until the next patch is ready.

Fen - this is just for remembering the password.

If hardware changes.. the ID will change. So it'll ask you to retype password.

Sorted.

Well.. thanks for the update again!

I suppose that encryption thingy might be important enough to wait for (granted that too many people on the forums have bitched constantly about safety issues, and how they'll (probably) quit if ever came into play - so I can kinda understand why you don't want to implement this patch just yet).

lol, so what is this ? everyone cry out loud if any hardware ID is transmited to Microsoft and then you give a friendly HELLO if neocron does ?o_O

not that i have any problems on that topic but like some other things around this is strange :)

Richard Blade
16-09-03, 20:17
I doubt they are looking for information on your computer.

What will happen, Neocron will look at your hardware specs and come up with a check sum, or key that will be used to encrypt your password into your registry.

Fen - your password will be the same on either machine. The encryption is for the machine registry only.

Before I look like a pompous ass, I am making huge assumptions and could be wrong. What I put up above just seems logical for encryption and security.

Thanatos
17-09-03, 00:33
Richard is right, the hardware ID will be used to encrypt the password saved in *your* registry. That way, even if someone gets a prog on your computer that reads the encrypted password and sends it to that guy, he won't be able to use the password because his hardware has another ID.
We don't send that ID anywhere.

As msdong says - you can't police everything, all the time, for everyone ... but you can dramatically reduce the probabilities of a successful "sniff".

Having to type the password only once inherently gives a keylogger the minimum statistically possible window of opportunity.

Ahh, excellent, I'm glad you guys looked into doing that, because the typing the password thing everytime you log in after a crash would have become old very quickly. Kudos guys!

Combined with the nointro setting and the resume button in the test patch, getting back in after a crash will be a lot smoother and quicker, even for non Plutonians. :D

Well - most loggers work async - the capture and transmit stages are separate, so it would simply save the info and send it off to Mr. H4xx0r when a connection was available again (or Mr. H4xx0r might have to poll the infected machine - same effect)

ahh, but in all that time, you type a bunch of random shit.. so any one could be a pasword...

counting is also fun game to do..

one, 1, two, 2, three, 3, four, 4, five, 5, six, 6... and so on.. ..

You both don't know much about keyloggers, well... good keyloggers.

I worked on a keylogger for a private company once, actually here
is the site:

http://www.rentacoder.com

Anyway, the keylogger uses "GetActiveWindow" api and records
the window's caption along with keystrokes. So, all a person would
have to do is do a text search for "neocron" and boom, everything
typed into the client will be there.

The keylogger would save the captured text when the buffer
is reached or at intervals, then it is encrypted to a file, usually
a good idea would be to use inconspicious file names like "thumbs.db".

The file is sent over a proxy (relay) server, presto.

Nobody is safe, just don't put nonsense into your system and
check your startup for unknown executables. I use MSCONFIG,
comes with window os > 9x.

then me typing random shit into the password and login info's must realy dirve them mad...

A good keylogger records mouse clicks as well. Even better
keyloggers get the caption of the child (button/label/textbox)
that you clicked. Although for games , this wouldn't be possible.

But, if someone were to look at the captured file with the key
strokes they could clearly see that you opened neocron, typed
a password and did a mouse click. Unless you clicked the mouse
100 times, im sure the person woudn't mind trying each password
before each mouse click until one worked.

Also, unless you could hit random keys and then type your password
without wasting any time, the capture would show a "delay"
since each stroke would be time stamped, this would show
that you stopped to click into the password box, typed a password,
then clicked again.

That's why I said "Picking a significant sequence out of all the keystrokes is difficult" - *not* impossible :D

Most keyloggers do tend to be simple - the more complex and refined your system, the bigger the footprint and the more potentially detectable your logger is to 3rd party tools, if not the user.

I totally agree with the last part - no-one will ever be 100% safe - all you can do is minimize the risks.

it takes me three seconds to type my password, or so, and it looks pretty random when you see it typed out...

can't be totaly safe, but can be as near as is..
