Clothing Art Contest - Submissions by October 2nd

A couple weeks ago my son wanted me to draw for him, so I was drawing pictures, and I had some ideas pop into my head for outfits for female classes. They are roughly done on paper that 3 year old hands got a hold of and crinkled, so I apologize.

I'm pretty shit with drawing, but I'm sure there are those of you who are better :D So I'll show you mine if you show me yours!

They are a bit retro inspired, but as fashion goes - we always tend to recycle :p

Now...to the point. I've noticed we have one of the most talented and artistic communities of any mmorpg so.....I have a brand new Neocron tshirt to give away compliments of a friend who used to work for CDV UK.

I will put up a list of all the people who submit artworks for new clothing ideas and let the community vote on which they like best and the winner gets a brand new Neocron tshirt.

PS. Just to let you know - I'm doing this because I personally have an extra NC tshirt which was given to me by a friend. So I'm sorry there are no in game prizes, but the shirt is pretty damn spiffy :) I will be paying for shipping so depending on where you are in the world, it may take a while to get to you cuz I'm not overnighting it anywhere :p | If you have won a contest in the past month, you are not eligable for winning this contest but please feel free to submit art anyway so we can all see how much of an kickass artist you are. I can't say if the skirt goes with her top. She also seems to lack any sort of relaxation. 40mins to draw underlying stucture, 30mins to detail clothing, longer than necessary to color her in. Background was done in 5 mins.

For drawings, it REALLY helps to draw some light guide lines for the entire picture beforehand. Also (@heavyporker in particular) if you want to draw something revealing, draw the body first then add clothing, otherwise it looks like you're just drawing certain parts just to have them there...

@McEvoy all your drawings have a certain sense of style and character very nice :)

I was originally planning on makeing a neocron webcomic, that would sorta come out once a month like the magazine. but i havent had enuf time to spend on it yet. heh, i think even when this contest is over ill still post art on the web site. Cyber punk is one of my favorite subjects. Im not sure if any of you are familiar with Paul Bonner. He does some killer artwork. Mostly he did work for Mutant Chronicle books. im going to Yosemite tomarrow morning so i wont be back till the 27th,

Heh thanks, Anywho, Right now, MY story is concerning the life of our hero, Clive tombstone (ok ok, I couldnt think of a better name [on a side note, the names catchy:D ]) A Private Eye, with a natural nack in the vehicle area, He was the son of the much reveared pilot/sniper, Grange "Lawless" tombstone. He has been with Next as a Test pilot/trouble shooter. Life was going just fine until he runs into a psi monk with a blurred history (and a strange Lifestyle [raised by mutants and he has a pet swamp squid named "squishy"] Random antics insue o_O), the Dome of York and his fathers past involvments with NeXt, and the mithed city of neo Tokeyo.

This is just some of the story, theres many other characters to make a debute. This story has been in the back of my head for a LONG time, and Im just finally getting good enough to draw my characters, now if only I could afford photoshop, and money for the website.

Ill post character Bio's later I REALLY hope my Comic can get off the ground, Suggestions would be nice for characters and stuff. Oh yah. Ill Have those Pictures of cloths finished soon, there kinda Creppy but Im satisfied, hope you guys are, Give me a day and Ill get my Friggin scanner working.:D

Another note, on drawing women, I hear just drawing out/copying photos in magazines and such can help, otherwise only advice I can give is smooth lines and simple/light line work before drawing complex parts. Can't give any other tips because it takes me forever to get a female pic done. (That tank took me an hour to complete, the initial work for the female psi monk (who isn't done) took me an hour!)

Tank (har har) you for the comps on the tank, He was going to be in the comic I was drawing, I was trying to think of a name for him that was spelled wierd (IE. phread:p ) But my designs are based on what I think the anatomy of what these Proffesions are based off of, Also If you noticed, I added dog tags to each, since our characters tend to drop them when we die. Kinda maked sense to me ya know, and Props to you sayoko, your female is very good looking (would say sexy, but people would think I think the wrong thing:wtf: :wtf: :D )

in short i think Clives stuff looks really euro industrial but if you mess with Curves and levels in photo shop you'll get a stronger line. I think PE's, spys and Tanks should all have trench coat options :D
sayoko's is great confident line work and shadeing with excilent detail, and a nice anime style too boot : ) verey pro!
Tia has a really neat abstract style armor , verey strange and original
Super nova's idea is cool, i like how he came up with the different ideas for the armor, and i think that weapon mounted armor would be killer

Nova yours is pretty cool too, I like the flowing "bone like" armor, if that was what you were trying for. I mean, Armor made from a doom reaper's carcas/bones would be tight :D .

Now for critizim (this is for everybody including myself) , try to add more deph, such as adding body parts (IE arm to or in a bracer or arm plate if you are doing individual sections IE Sup nova) to show size comparison, and dont add facial features with a head, remember, this is a clothing contest not face (no offence MC or Sayoko, both heads kick royal ass!:D

i drew this really sweet looking idea for pe pa., but alas i have no scanner and my digital camera is broken. i'll kind of explain it though. it is mainly all sleak black metal armor. the helmet is very simple just a sleek looking helmet with a aiming recepticle over the left eye. he has a trenchcoat on over top of the armor. basically the armor is made to be very movable so there are only plates of tough armor in approiate places. the chest, abs, thighs, knees, and shins. the rest of the suit is some type of strechy material that protects the wearer somehow...it's the future :lol: um. so yeah

From what I can remeber, some of your drawings seemed slightly off balance Clive. My memory is bad so I can't say much anything else.

In Sayoko's regard, I always find manga with pictures that make me stop and wish I could draw that good. I never try to copy the pics because I always want to make original work instead of fan-art or something similar. The artist Sayoko referenced from is damn good.

Simple way to color in line work in Photoshop - promote line drawing to a layer, set it to Multiply Blend, create a layer underneath it and color there. In general it's a good idea to make new layers for different colors/regions.
Theres techniques to make the line art look more... solid? in a scan if you didn't ink the pic, I errase errant lines and apply various filters to solidify the line work. I think theres other ways to do it using PhotoShop Illustrator but I don't have exp with it.

Im gonna try and get my stuff back on the site. Also, Im going to try some tutorials in shading and puting in color for photoshop :cool: . I got my PA's commin in. I think Im on to somthing with this next clothing ;) (sorry still guy cloths, but Im getting better)

sorry to make such a generalized critique of most of this artwork, but I just wanted to say that you guys are supposed to be designing clothes for a cyberpunk world, not anime... a lot of these scans, while they do show talent, and are nice to look at--- lets face it, no one is going to look like this in this future:

Blah... I drew my female tank but I don't have a scanner and any time to tune it with photoshop so I just tuned up my previous pic o_O I changed the color and placed some logos there. I liked my work in the beginning but now I feel I don't have any chances. Anyways... the one that I feel as a biggest threat to me is McEvoy. Good work there. You only need to pay more attention for the shapes of human body I think. That male monk of yours with his hands crossed over his chest is definitely the best one from you.

:) I propose that we set up a permanent picture thread here, I'm also working on a web site with most of my art , which i will help others if they cant get one of those free hosting deals (don't try geocitys theysuck ferret anus!). I'm not sure but i don't think anyone here really did all this with main intentions of getting THE SHIRT, its cool,we all wanted to share our art and views with each other, I mainly did this to test out my new styles , if i could still do work on par, that people liked, and to practicefor my endeavor in trying to get a (hopefully one day, official) Neocron comic working.
