What with the new x-ray bones coming this would seemingly make the Uranium mod not as popular as it once was, so what are the best mods now and why are they best for certain weps and against different classes?

e.g. Why would maybe an explosive mod for a Sniper rifle be better than a Uranium mod or an 'flazer' mod better than 'gama' mod for a Disruptor?

getting a mod for every eventuallity is a nice plan. don't just stop at, say, having one pain easer with a specific mod, acquire 3, one with each mod.

but that's a lot of work. my recco is now, and has always been - get a fire mod. fire has been the mod of choice for a long time now - xray went out of fashion ages ago. note the number of ingame forum ads of people wanting to swap xray modded CSs for unmodded or fire modded ones.

fire is a nice all-rounder - it's never perfect, but it'll do damage to any class. xray will do precisely jack to a spy, and not too much to a tank either. xray is variable with monks, but on a par with fire. and with PEs, you can never tell.

basically, you never know what to expect, but with the advent of xray bones you CAN expect people to have more xray resist than they might otherwise have done. play the percentages and go with a fire mod.
