i used to have a place on compaq site that i just entered in my serial number and it told me every peice of silicon in my comp now i cant find the damn thing and need to know wtf motherboard i got

Try running Sisoft Sandra on it, it is a good hardware checker that can tell you a ton about your system resources.

The other place you look is in the bios, usually the front screen shows you what bios you're running and that corresponds to a MB.
