Greetings!

As was previously discussed in an earlier thread, the one thing that has been missing from our great City for some time, is a detailed and accurate cartographic representation of the many underground buildings, passages, and other areas which are built in or housed in, solid locations.

This Survey will consist of all areas, from the Plaza Sewers, to the Pepper Park Main Sewers, to Point Red, Gaya Mines, Military Bunker, Tech Haven, and anywhere else, which is contained within its own location.

The Surveyance team will consist of at least three people, whom will be equipped with the tools required to carry out their job.

The main requirements of anyone wishing to apply for a position on one of the teams is:

Patience
An ability to record and measure using eyesight alone
Detail and dedication

The resulting maps will include all structural foundations, as well as any containing items, such as crates, boxes, seats, etcetc.

This will be the pinnacle of surveyance work, and finally provide us with a detailed insight into our great City, and our wonderful world.

As your Official NeMa Correspondent, every month, a selection of the maps will be included in the NeMa, to allow our citizens the chance to explore and enhance their cultural knowledge of our world.

All Applications should be made via email to:
Maloch-Octavia
On any Server, except Jupiter.

We will be co-ordinating the effort over Saturn, Uranus and Pluto, so we will be using some form of medium communication, such as an Instant Messenger.

When you email me, please state which you use, such as MSN, ICQ, etcetc.

Thank you for your time and patience!!

M.O
NeMa Correspondent

Hmm... MrBane... won't you need transportation and security? (my apu monk on pluto can provide both rather well, methinks).

I can't guarantee that my eyes are cartographic-certified, but I suppose I will give it a crack if need be. Let's hope I'm back in NC when your team is operational.

There will arise situations and scenarios, where our Survey Team will be trying to position that box on the Y angle with that foundation support on the X angle, whilst a Doom Harbringer tries to position his rocket on the Z angle with the Surveyors arse, so yes.. Security will be required.

All matters will be arranged as and when the time comes, as long as we know who we have on the team, and what they can provide.

When are you due back in NC?

Indeterminate. My father still wants to manually root out whatever banged up this rustbucket that has NC installed on it...

There's still hope that I might be back in by next week... In the meantime, I plan to try and see what my lapwarmer... uhh.. laptop... will be like with NC installed on it... then see what NC is like with the laptop running it...

I didn't know that Doom Harbingers had natural surveying ability... perhaps you should try and recuit them as well? :)

I didn't know that Doom Harbingers had natural surveying ability... perhaps you should try and recuit them as well?

I approached one for assistance, but he was remarkably unhelpful on the subject. Felt that I should leave, quickly.

My main aim would be to have the group actually working together on a certain plot, but if it's neccessary, and more convenient, we can always split it into individual tasks.

I feel that for the actual Roleplay and interaction and socialisation of the act, it'd be much better if there were for example, two of us carrying out the Survey, comparing details etcetc, whilst two tanks patrolled the edges of our current sector, taking out any spawns that appeared.

Would be quite enjoyable.

Well, I am certainly availiable for protection/security services, and possibly MB serveyance work.

OOC: How do want to go about all this, eg. how should I contact you, when are you online and how exactly does one survey?

Oh, amen, MrBane... I'm rather rabid on the roleplaying...

Did I mention my APU Monk can hack? That's why I try to coopt a clan member once in a while to go down some path in the mainsewers...

my APU Monk can use a medium range scout drone as well, which helps a LOT in exploration, I will tell you...

Oh, btw, anyone know if one can still jump into the subway tracks? I rather enjoyed walking in the subway tunnels, and coming out into that odd spot in the outzone with all those dead tanks... hmm hmm.

Count me in.

I have some rough sketches of the main sewers - at least up to the hack door.

We would need someone that can hack to open that and any other doors out there.

I can also drive and have a few APCs too.

OOC: What we'll do, is if you PM me on this Forum for the time being, we can figure out what we use the most..ICQ, MSN, etc.. We can then add everyone that wants to be on the Team, and that'll allow us to discuss progress and plans, across the servers.

I'll assign a Survey Leader for each Server, to co-ordinate things on a local basis.

Easiest way, is send me a PM with these details:

Character Name:
Server:
Timezone:
Chat Clients Used: (MSN, ICQ, etcetc)
Class:
Combat Orientated?:

Then we can get things figured out with group capabilities etcetc.

As for carrying out the actual survey, it's quite simple. Get some square lined, A4 paper, or blank paper if you can work with that, and get something to lean on. :D

As you go around your area, you simply plot out what you see, on a plan basis (Above view). We'll use symbols to indicate various common items.

So initially you go about plotting down the walls, and any supporting pillars, doors, etcetc.. Then you get down to plotting in chairs, boxes, plants, whatnot.

After that's all done, we computerise it and get it turned into nifty looking graphical representations.

:D

Anyone know what software created this map (http://www.neocroncentral.net/database/content/104619549712734.php)?

I'd love to generate the maps with it.

cool... perhaps something like that cool 3/4 view (or something) map of an Outzone sector that I saw? I think that it worked marvelously because Outzone is so multilevel, and this 3/4 view map got to show it all...

a TopDown view is best for the single level sectors, though...

My mistake, sorry.. The initial Survey will be carried in top-down, because it's the easiest for a human hand to plot in. Once it goes onto computer, it'll be something like that map displayed at Neocron Central.

I'm still trying to find out how that was designed. It's a piece of art, and perfect for the task at hand.

this is a great idea, but as im taking a break from NC, i cannot assist you.

If you need any advice on clearing the 'Dungeons' so your team can work in peace, don't hesitate to PM me.

Well the idea is definately in motion now, just need to get the list of those that are interested finalised. So either PM me in the Forums or contact me under Maloch-Octavia on any server except Jupiter and Venus.
