Recordable books are meant to be books, recordable discs are effectively a single sheet of paper. That's the theory - in practice the two are practically identical in all except name.
I wish I could give a better answer, unfortunately I don't have any spare books to test with (tronik parts), maybe there's a difference in how much data the two can hold, but I honestly have no clue. I can't see any differences when I compare the two, and I'm loathe to waste any of the books testing this out since I can't get more tronik parts.
Best bet is to speak to Lupus or another GM on the test server, and ask them to spawn a few for testing purposes. I know, I'm tight fisted, but I don't want to waste them on a test unless I know I can replenish them !
Take care,
