Max Payne: Hyped up, brainless crap? Or work of art?

kickass plot and fairly artsy.

Max Payne was cool. yet again another game i completed in under 24hours realtime. only payne level (hehe) was the 2nd dream level.

Great plot, excellent voice acting, AWESOME atmosphere, and kick ass action.
The only problem with the game was the dream levels. :rolleyes:
Ahh Max Payne... the veteran game you always have to 'just have a quick look at' when you get a new vid card...
Plot probably wasn't the 'best' game plot ever, but the way it was presented to you was fresh and new.. and slow diving over tables while killing three goons with dual Berattas [sp] means I'm gonna' buy the sequel (if there is one)..

Ah, that's the thing....what other games take the time to dedicate levels to nothing but the emotional pit your character is falling into?
It's like Half-Life...a terribly cliched plot told in an amazing way.
I loved the "goons" conversations as well. Heh...(Although one near the end made me feel guilty for killing a few of those "suits" :().

Going by the concept art, it seems as if Mona plays a bigger part this time.

It should have been a cinematic sequence, or much easier. I thought it was great, but it was difficult ENOUGH to ponder whether or not I should keep playing.

My personal favourite, though:
"AH! DIME! DIME! IT'S PAYNE!"
*Guy throws a grenade, it hits the doorframe and bounces back down towards him....BOOM!*
Hrmmm.
It was novel only in that it was the first time a computer game had tried telling a story quite like this.
The actual plot and execution thereof was pure cornball. It was just a rehash of every bad straight-to-video cop flick you've ever seen. :D
Still - top marks for trying to do something different with an FPS.

It was short but very very sweet. I hate it how developers think they need to cram in lots of gameplay just to justify the high price of games. Quality not quantity!

What I couldn't believe was how a 'minor' bought the game. I seriously don't know how I got away with that one, I guess the lady at the check out forgot or something :rolleyes:
It was an OK gmae was way to easy.. completed it with out the bullet time till the minute mode thing...

There Was a lot a lot of talk about the 2nd one when i first joined NC and they said it was due out very soon.... Does this mean something is comming out later than DOY?
I liked everything about Max Payne accept for the simple fact that it was still a single player first person shooter. The plot couldn’t keep me interested in the repetitive gameplay. By the end of the second chapter the shootouts got boring. Stop motion was fun but it felt more like a cheat or something. Then again, maybe I just wasn’t in the mood for that type of game, perhaps I should dig it out of the closet and try it again.

Current release date for DE2 is Spring 2004 :(

Max Payne was an excellent game. Far too short but very good nonetheless.
The Kung Fu mod made the game more interesting.
Max Payne had a great story line, the graphics were cool and the game play kept me fairly interested... downside... 12 hours. Beat it in one night.
