Neocron Banner Contest

As a result of several requests from the Community we decided to start a Neocron Banner Contest, where your own created banners are being rated by our Art Team. The best three banners may then be officially used as Neocron banners and will even be awarded with a prize.

The following banners may be used as a template, but you can also create entirely new ideas. It is just important that you stick to the given dimensions.

There are following criterias:

-It has to be clear and obvious, which game it is about
-Slogans or texts may be implemented, but their connection to the game has to be clear and precise

The prizes of this contest are ingame items, which will be handed over to the winners characters personally within the game:

1. Prize Three MC 5 implants of your choice
2. Prize Two MC 5 implants of your choice
3. Prize One MC 5 implant of your choice

You can post you creations directly into this thread with your characters name and server so that we are able to contact you ingame.

This Contest lasts for two weeks from today, so you have got enough time to let go your creativity.

Usually Paintshop Pro or Adobe Photoshop should do well, you can find them free if you look well *cough* :rolleyes:

It can't be easily converted to another size without screwing up the majority of it, and also it would be pretty stupid to be forced to follow rules posted when the contest was half over.

It depends if KK plan on using them. If they do, then anything more than 40-50K is an absolute max... If it is just for ideas and file size doesn't matter, then we can all do better :)

mine was 850k, i cut it down to about 775k, the only way i could get it lower is if i used flash...which ill have to download and dont want to :o

...I've been working alot and I haven't had much time but I do have the weekend off to work on my banner more. I don't want to submit it yet and have people leech ideas; that's why I am waiting for the day before the due date.

I think it's due by the 5th of September, but I really am not sure, so an official response would be great.

I've used flash before and am semi experienced with it, but I'm attempting to do this with a Gif Animation program since that's what I started out with. I haven't done much in a couple days but one thing is for sure I need to get my ass in gear lol cuz we got less than a week left !!! I've seen some good ones so far, and like em. Hope I can match up to some of them, but doubt it since I am better with actual Graphic Design than Animation.

The second one had promise until it started quoting off magazine stats (which tend to lie a lot anyway).

I haven't had time to make one but if someone wants to do my idea (I'm like a dimension splitter or rare spell. ;) )

Yeah, on second look they do have a fair few "niggles" that makes them imperfect, but then again so does mine :) All I can say is our opinion doesnt really matter, its the art team of KK who's decision counts :D

A couple things I'd like to point out about those 2 mentioned.

The first is cool but has a couple graphical glitches. Nothing that couldn't be fixed up within a couple minutes. I think it's too short, but then again the old banner was pretty short as well. I think more needs to be shown to potential customers but that's just my personal opinion.

The second I really don't like. Not because everyone else likes it but because it really doesn't show alot. Personally I don't like the ratings being shown at all. Those are already shown on the front page of Neocron so what are they needed for in this banner? I also don't understand where that world picture comes from, but that's just me. Again, these are my opinions; everyone is at will to make their own.

I'm not saying that this will make the banners good, I'm not the judge(s), I'm just putting my opinion in.

i also made it a little more space efficient, reduced the size from 850k to 645...thats as low as i can get it, some of the pics already look like shit as it is...

as for the german ones...i think they should make 2 contests, one for the german commmunity and one for english. its not that im scared of losing, i never thought i would even get 3rd place, it just seems to be more fair if there was 2 seprate contests...plus most of the germans dont play on the english servers....same with english people.

edit, i have 2 versions of the final one...one with the glowing border, one without...im not to sure at which one looks the best...i woulda did somthing more fancy but its an issue of file size...

Hrey heres a tip for anyone here. Has anyone thought about doign say a remodeling job in for instance max/maya and using the existing neocron textures? And rendering say 30 seconds of animation into 400 sliced gifs/jpegs and using flash to say compress them so u have a truly animated banner? =-p

i would use maya, but i dont wanna download it all again...to much of a pain, i just downloaded flash last night...man i havnt used that in a while...i hardly knew what i was doing in it :lol:

Kid urs is the best one from the english community but...

800k is unacceptable; the judges will say that. having it larger then 100k makes it huge. I remeber astalavista held a contest like this with a max size of 40k.

I dont see why flash wouldent be allowed... most banners on websites now a days are flash. that would lower the size mega especialy with the moving picture part.
also note one of the german banners was done in flash...

when you made it in flash did you put it so it said show 100%?

sometimes it will only show what it would look like at 50% or somthing.

Then copy and paste the code into notepad swapping "Cyphers_Neocron_Banner.swf" for the correct file name.

Well I just finished my banner at 4AM in the morning. I'm pretty tired and considering this is the 3rd time I've had to change my banner size because it was the wrong dimensions 2 times :( I want to post it, but I fear 350k is too big. Maybe I will release it if I can get my friend to teach my a little flash and I'll go from there. Still have 1 full day (no work either!), so I should be releasing later today :) I bet ALOT of people are going to be releasing final products as well, so it's going to be good to see the competition.
