Out of NC for a while, unintentionally

Seems that those cracker assholes are getting ever more brilliant...

Never thought that just surfing around would make me trip over some website that slammed me with 50 porn or software popup windows and slip my computer some sort of exe file or something...

Apparently not only did it change my homepage option (normally was my geocities homesite that I made) to some sort of defunct webpage, but installed some sort of exe file to my desktop that, judging from the name was a porn viewer... not only that to boot, but its making the computer slow as heck - even just typing in this forum has slowed down. And that's just my windows XP account... seems my dad's admin account got hit a bit too... he's trying to deal with it but he's talking about wiping the hard drive and even perhaps getting a new one (this one is getting a bit old, admittedly, only 15 GB or so, but before, the new HD talk was just talk)... and Neocron itself is on a partition that he blocked off access to, so I don't even have the comfort of playing it for the last few hours before the overhaul... AND I probably will have to change passwords all over the place... grrr...

Fucking cracker assholes. Them and the spammers.

Just so you know... I ain't leaving Neocron, not by a long shot...

I suppose to keep myself sedated I will type up the Neocron stories I did (sent two of them to the ingame Neochronicle boards but was rejected, apparently) and an epic Neocron story that's been rattling around in my mind... from the looks of it, it's long enough to make even Delmann think twice about typing this bastard up :D If he thinks I have anywhere the writing skill I deluded myself into thinking I have, maybe he'll even let me write a chapter or two to his and McBane's most excellent Opened Eyes storyline... good Crahn, but that story kicks ass... take two or three hours off from Neocron and get your ass to the RP forum and read it all... you will thank me for pointing you to it.

I suppose I will think about trying my hand at taking a shot at that Neocron banner contest... A Dimension Splitter and Rigger's Dream and that MC5 tradeskiller chip oughta do my clan a world of good, heheheheheheh!!!

Yeah... so much I got planned.... but I still say "fuck you assmunch jizzmop nutflogger titpicker asshole cracker" to whomever set that virtual bomb in my path...

A man can't surf online in peace anymore... grrr...

I suppose I will tell Heavyporker on Pluto that he better watch his ass when he hits the terminal up to surf the forums once I get back on...

yeah i got a IE virus awhile back... ive been 2 lazy 2 format and antivirus dosnt pick it up, it basicly pops up a porn site every 15 page view :P

btw 2 change ur IE's start up page open it up tools-internet options and under acatagory called home page type in ur new start up page

yeah, that's practically the same thing - every 15th page view or something - seems to have settled down for now...

yeah, I changed back the homepage first thing after I noticed what happened to it...

also deleted the internet cache and cookies cache just in case it was lurking around in there...

but I ain't stupid enough to think that solved the problem... damn keyloggers and such things... they may look glamorous on the movies, but damn if you don't have to haul ass trying to clean them out of your computer... grrr.


edit - um... didnt I hear adaware or something was like, um, what;s the name - "spyware" or something - keeping tabs on you and sending data to the software maker or something?

actually i just heard on the news... this was the last big worm... every one thought it was going to do more then it actually ended up doing, right now its using ur computer 2 send out spam. i dont have that problem cuz of my setup weeeee.

anyways im sure antivirus will pick it up now

Tyr hitting it with anti spy-ware software such as ad-aware or spybot.

(hopes that doesn't classify as advertising? They are defensive utilities locatable in a standard web search and damned useful shareware)

Opera 7.11, works like a charm, been using it for some time now. When using Linux, Galeon is pretty comfy.

Netscape. I love netscape. always have, always will. Doesn't crash on me nearly as much as internet explorer (in fact I can't even remember the last time netscape DUD crash on me. :lol: )

That's exactly the reason why I use Opera. Opera opens/handles multiple browsersessions in one 'program-window', close Opera and they're all closed ... I'm too lazy to close 50 'windows' which I ended up with after an IE session.

To prevent third party applications from being installed from IE,
you have to goto Options then click the Privacy tab.

I have mine set to Medium-High, takes care of all that crap.

Download AdAware 6.0 from:

It will remove all the most popular thirdparty apps and spyware
from your computer, i use it daily.

Also http://housecall.trendmicro.com for free online virus scans

Ad-aware 6 is particularly good in my opinion. I try to use it daily.

The reason your home page is changing back to that crap unintentional one is probably because a registry key was installed by a webpage / popup / whatever.

Ad-aware will pick this up and report if you have any other spyware or dodgy cookies installed and then let you delete them if you want.

Of course, there are a list of famous programs that always install spyware, unfortunately, as it is nearly nine in the morning and I have been up all night at a LAN party, damned if I know what they are! O_o :rolleyes:

Yup or button combinations, like hold the right mouse button and click the left button and it goes back a page. :)

why don't you use Mouse-4 and 5 for next/prev page?

Not everyone has those plus i like to set those to other things like copy etc

Plus that was only an example there are others like opening a new page, goto a root of a page, open link in new window etc. etc.
