My DT is totaly cramped, and I use all the icons near everyday, anyone else find they have to notch the screen resolution up another notch so they can see all the junk that's about?

It's a picture quote, hammer time, "better get nid then"... just grabbed it for some reason, might have been post count, might have been getting samples for editing (EG the copbot avatar) and so on I forget..

oh and I have folders for junk that I use, 01DFACC is one of them, though the rest are blotted out cause like I don't rember why.. ahh well

if you ever wanna get something from your desktop click on the minimise all button in quicklaunch bar and once u open a new window traydesk automatically hides your desktop again. and you can put 'my computer as an auto-hide bar at the top of the screen to access hdds and cds...

I've got 2 icons on my desktop.

Recycle bin and Outlook.

Everything else is sensibly organised in the taskbar/program menu.

If I had a desktop that looked like yours.. I'd have to kill myself (or probably just tidy it :))

There's no reason for similar files not to be put in one folder. ie. All the jpgs in a folder called "jpgs".. all docs in another. etc.

Then, you link to each folder via the program menu/attach it to the "quick list".. or whatever is suitable for all the stuff you want to access.

I always make a "Common" folder that I put those items in.

Make a link on the desktop to it and one from the start menu, just in case the desktop is covered.

Although Neocron does get a desktop icon :)

It's just easyer to have proggys icons on the desktop, esp when they can snap you out very quickly and without warning, or if you have to write up a report on how itt happened, what you where trying to do, and other vitals.. it's just easyer..

If I could be arsed.. and had hosting.. I would show off my desktop with a cool wallpaper I made myself (collage of all the stuff I like - which is out of date incidentally :P) and it uses Litestep - a AMAZING, fully customisable shell replacement (none of that start menu/taskbar crap - this is the real deal with transparent menus and scripted actions and stuff.

EDIT: Oh and mine's the most uncluttered - I'm a minimalistic - Everything is but a hotkey or mouse button away.

And I mean it's REALLY out of date - I've yet to update it. Top bar is the taskbar (duh!) - the "popup" is my start menu - below the taskbar is "label" which shows me some info - bottom right is systray - above that is my mail - which checks my mail every 10 mins and shows how many new emails I've got - there's a VWM manager bottom right (which is hidden - it appears if you move your mouse over that edge) - and all sorts of other hidden, behind the scene stuff. I still haven't finished yet - I wanna get rainmeter up and running (which shows graphically your CPU usage, Net In/Out speeds, etc. etc.).

EDIT3: And btw I do know what that chinese at the bottom says :P

I run most apps fullscreen or tiled, and having the Pin To Start Menu in XP means I don't have to waste time going back to desktop constantly.

i covered up some icons that are work related taht you guys arent supposed to be seeing i cant remove them as theyre mainly actually projects in usage atm open in one of the 2 editors you dont open and close 2gb projects that often as it takes ages to sync back into ss.

in otherwords they arent shortcuts theyre actual files but you cant see them unless you a) work for me b) have major nda`s signed with some rather large companies

haha hinch. There's no need to cover them. If they are YOUR programs, then obviously you haven't distributed them online so they cannot be downloaded on the net. Who cares what they are. The most someone will do is ask what they are. But atm you got me curious :)

I used to have a pretty background, but i like sinfest, so i put up something to keep myself amused :) there a folder on my desktop called desktop crap. Every so often when my DT gets too cluttered i grab everything there and drag it into that folder :) its mainly useless pics and random folders. Got a few of the NC movies on my machine too :D

edit: Kurai :) i turn off all gfx settings for XP too.. the OS X ripoff design is too 'child friendly' :p

pfft, I'm not working on HL2.. I don't even know how I'd crack the bugs, and the mission design is near perfect..

We all have our reasons for blacking things out, I blacked out a chunk of MW mod folders that I worked on for a bit then dumped as poor ideas, or where too hard or impossible to do, like my living land, but I still use parts of them often enough, and need to be able to get at them often to get bits out, shift them to other folders, delete and all that..

that aint my gaming pc thats my work pc im sat in the office atm bored outta my brains trying to get some network code working

basically what ive been doing for the past 3 months

i`ll tell you one of the things though its an icon to the xbox rom encryption ss tree thats possiably the only thing i can tell you about whats under the boxes

on a side note warcraft 3 is installed on this machine as we enjoy a nice little lan game everysoften when you can drag us away from halo

heh you wish they arent my programs theyre other companies programs im just working on their implementation and integration ready for making xbox live actually something everyone wants. (ps. i think we`ll do it when a new game comes out most people have been waiting for)
