I see (and can imagine) many hackers/clans using the citycom to check out how many online target clan has before launching an attack. While this can be used to dampen ones own attacking force to suit the number of available defenders, I'm sure that a more common usage is to attack while most of the clan's members are offline.

The question is, are you using the online-check to be able to attack undefended ops? Or do you use it for other purposes?
Maybe the online check should be removed, or adjusted to just show the status of clan leaders? Or something?

Sounds fair !

Only display online status on members above clan rank XX (10,11,what ever) except for your own clan ofcourse.

And i would also be able to se what clan a runner belongs to in the runner info, atleast what faction he is in.

dont think it'll make much of a difference. afterall you could just dm each one of em and see if they're online. i think it should stay as if you need someone to do a job then you check the citycom if they're online and then contact. you could just straight contact though. Ninjahacking will keep going. all you gotta do is make sure all the hackers have stealth. Preferably if your gonna check a citycom then i'd like to think your wanting a fight and see if your force is up for the challenge.

Well - but what about the opposite? You check if someone of the clan is online because YOU WANT to get a fight? Because you are bored.. and want some action.. ?

It could show on runner info if a person was online or not. I'd just like it to be more of a nuisance to get a quick summary of how many peeps are online in the clan you plan to attack or not...

Perhaps only let allied/neutral factions see it? That way you could have infiltration and such...

ifthey disabled the ability to check how many people where online we would never get an attack, at current most clans wait until there are "less" of us on which doesn't happen that often due to having a huge clan with both american and european players.

Also we often dont bother attacking if another clan has no one online, or i defeats the entire purpose of having the ops.

Well, what I'm getting at is... Is this feature used by players to balance opwars/get action/other cool stuff, or is it exploited to be able to "sneak attack" while noones home?

Hey you people complaining about getting your ops hacked while asleep: Speak up!

Wouldn't it be more exciting to not know how large a force the enemy could muster?

or maybe I'm making things up...? IN MY MIND!!!

Helping run a clan I like to know if my members are online or not. If you're on about removing the ability to check who is online in a clan, at least have the common decency to suggest that this not be applied to one's own clan.

Maybe you have problems with ninja hackers, but I don't want to loose the ability to monitor who is online in my clan because you're getting annoyed with your inability to hold an outpost 24/7.

Take some advice, recruit, fill in the gaps, and ensure you have 24 hour coverage. The shortcoming is not with the ability to view who is online, but is in fact embedded in the matter of your clan not having adequate defences around the clock.

I know which problem I'd be addressing if I were in your shoes...

No. Because if you WANNA fight it's boring to hack the OP and waiting for ages just because you don't know if someone is online or not.
Ok, even if you know that someone of the opponent clan is online it does not mean that they will come to take back the OP, but at least there is a (high?) probability...

and woo, why the aggro...? quitting smokes again?
didn't even get a complimentary "take care..." jeez.

@Eric:
Valid points. Yes, I recognize the awkwardness in finding a larger group to pick a fight with if this is implemented. And the annoyance at waiting around a newly hacked op not knowing of the previous owners will show up or are logged or whatever.
Don't have a good answer either.
Anyone else?

And don't get me wrong. This is not a whine about a clan's inability to hold an outpost. I'm all for outpost redistribution on a regular basis. I saw some posts about losing ops while not online and reacted to it. This was the first thing that came to mind that might help stop opportunistic attacks. But I also realize the downsides.

Maybe ask the leader if they are coming or not.
It works for some enemies.

Op fights on Saturn seem to mainly be faction fights, anyway.

Not to hijack your thread too much, but if we're messing with citycom, please add:

Search for clan by short name
Show runner's clan in info
Allow deletion of in-game forum threads in which yours is the only post

I think people should be able to choose if they want to be visable online or not like you can do with instant messegers and forums..
