Okay Hi, first post. Umm Okay I was sitting at my desktop waiting for Neocron to DL and all fo a sudden a box pops up and says.

This system must be shut down.
This system will restart in 1 minute (timer)
Please save any unsaved data to prevent errors and log off.
This system has been shut down by NT ADMIN/ SYSTEM.

No errors or anything. Dunno what the heck it was. I have no Trojans or Viruses. Anyone know what oculda caused it?

You've been the victim of a Microsoft security flaw related to RPC DCOM, primarily on Windows 2000 and XP. Please see this thread (http://neocron.jafc.de/showthread.php?s=&threadid=70538) for details on how to determine which security updates are required for your machine.

Even websites can be used to grant access to your computer if programmed properly, there are several other things that can be done to give access.

Don't admit to DLing MP3s either....walls have ears -_-

You don't necessarily need to DL anything to be hacked....

And if it's something like Kazaa you've been DLin stuff off of then there could be bundles of people who have found exploitable ports of yours and had free acess to hack away.

Just download the security patches.

But I dont GOTO geocities websites and that jazz, just famous sites
AKA: 8 bit theater, home star runner, Neocron, Graal 2k2 etc.

I also have my firewall on at all times and it said no outside access was detected... and I ran a virus scan / trojan sweep and nothing.

They have their ways..

Also if you're been on any porn sites lately....

*cough* those are loaded with little goodies, even the professional ones.

The same thing happened to my computer. But hell, thats Microsoft for you, always leaving the 'window' open inviting people in. O_o

Here is a link to Microsoft TechNET Website for information and how to fix it.

http://www.microsoft.com/technet/treeview/?url=/technet/security/bulletin/MS03-026.asp

For some reason even after I installed the patch I still had problems. Never could figure out why, all I can say is, Thank God for ZenWorks

On a side note: My Windows 2000 Advanced Server never had any problems. Then again I did have that machine pretty damned secured.

Yup it sucks.....I currently need to rebuild my mom's box as this morning when she logged into her pc she got the same error message, upon reboot ntoskernl.exe was missing. After each reboot another system file magically dissapeared.

Sooo looks like work will be following me home tonight and Neocron might need to take a back seat....no rest for the restless.

Who is your ISP? So I can sue them. They are not allowed to give out any information about anyone (especially the location) without a search warrent.

American laws....

We have data protection laws, but you are entitled to any information your ISP gains on a crime commited against you so you can make a civil claim as well as a criminal one.

Also someone's country does not count as personal details, which are covered to a certain extent, it is general information.

All you know is A hacker comes from spain. Nothing else.
