What do you think about adding more character customization for NC? Would it be beneficial to dedicate hours for it (in the far future, if ever)? Do you want to have fights that look like fashion show?
I just want to hear your opinions.

More character customisation would be great though I can certainly understand why it's not high on the list. I dislike themed costumes based around real life events so a big no to Santa outfits etc. While having it's silly moments, NC has always had a more mature sense of humour imo. Running around in a bunny costume just doesn't fit with the aesthetics or atmosphere of the game (even if it's a Tiger Bunneh).

Why is the person in the foreground wielding a spiky dildo btw?

Since they have such a small team right now I'd rather they not work on player customization, but instead fix things like cop bots facing walls, randomly getting stuck in sync, many rare weapons being terrible, etc.

Speaking of character customization, the face "model" part of character customization does absolutely nothing and should be removed.

Having said all of that, I do miss the NC1 models/skins. The PE sunglasses, the tank white shirt with suspenders, the almost mutated looking monk skins, etc. There was word at one point of adding accessories (like sunglasses and cigarettes) to NC2, but that never happened.

Good that not only coders belong to the team :)

Indeed.

It's a small team which means that each area is worked on by one or two people.
As the work required for each area is quite specialised, having someone working on one area doesn't impact progress in other areas.
I know nothing about lighting or models, but possibly aside from Z (who has his hands full with other stuff), no-one knows other areas of the game like I do.
Making the team members responsible for GFX drop their work to help with my side might not help the game, assigning me to the GFX team would be pointless in the extreme.

Signs that the team is working on something that you don't feel is important, doesn't mean work on things you do do feel are important are being slowed.

Alright then, I take back what I said! More customization would be coool! Although, covering yourself up with PA is kinda a dower; maybe we could toggle PA visibility? Just an idea. Thanks for the reponses on development, it gives me confidence. I'm back in game everyday and just capped my dex for the first time on this server, things are getting exciting!

Being able to customise PA's would be cool, such as colour and the ability to make the helm graphic disappear to reveal the characters face. A black or chrome looking tank pa could potentially look cool, or a spec ops looking spy pa - black with green eyes.

Still waiting for better looking melee weapons :(

I think character customisation is the least of this game's worries.

What tools do you guys use to edit the assets with?

Everything common, like Photoshop, Max, Blender, Quixel, Substance, XNormal. The Original assets are from times of Max6 and 7 and also the game tools build up on them, so thats rather a challenge itself.

Afros

Afaik, the afro model was lost at some point. If you have an NC2 beta client, let us know.

What about turning it to community contribution? just release the data necessary to create new hairstyles, clothing, etc, review it within the team and implement it as you see fit? or are there obstacles we don't know of?

This would be amazing.

Neither i have the time to check, clear and implement them all, there are also legal things that prevents this kind of contribution. I also started that out some time ago and it became a dead end because of missing feedback.

Yes, creating new assets and textures is the easy part :)

There is quite some stuff in the pipe for that kind but it requires a lot of groundwork to get thing ingame quickly in the future. Touching a model also means new UVs, animation editing, ingame implementations.

More customization: I beg you to proceed with caution here. Generally people will say that more customization = always better, but they don't notice how detrimental it can be to a game's atmosphere, because: not all players are artistic, and some will make bad-looking characters because "it's funny" or they don't care. Allowing players to become a unique avatar that fits in the game's world is great, provided that it indeed fits in the game's world.

It's already pretty easy to make a bad looking character currently in NC2 with most of the hairstyles and mustaches etc. It wasn't really possible to make a bad-looking character in NC1 because the hairstyle was painted onto the face textures, and because of that, always matched. The only way (afaik) you could make a really stupid looking character in NC1 was by abusing the color sliders, like a bright green shirt with bright magenta pants.

A twitter shoutout?

Specifically it would be the closed beta client. I managed to source the open beta client a while back via some fierce Google-fu, my requests on Twitter were sadly a dead end. All of the open beta assets are things we already have, sadly sans-afro.
