View Full Version : Hacknet: Players falling off of the grid

New players exploring the hacknet often fall off its edges.

It's quite confusing for newbies today for example I read the question on help channel many times.

That's why I propose to automatically port ppl back to the reset position when they fall off the grid.

Seems like a good idea. Either that or kick them out of hacknet to their apartment.

I agree with this, they should also have SI

:wtf:

one minute the persons running round in hacknet the next minute they fell off and ended up back in their apartment with SI and this is some how a good thing? Can you imagine the outcries on help channel? I would be confused and pissed at the same time.

Blocking volumes of some kind along the tracks is a better idea than this.

I'm against it. When you fall down you should have to type in the reset command. Not knowing the command brings you to the help channel and to learn one of the more important commands in Neocron. Perfect.
It also adds a more hacking feeling, typing in a simple command and wait till it's execution is finished. You might add in some automatism if you fall down, the command is executed. BUT there are clearly some points where I want to jump down and walk there. For example to loot one of the mobs in the Faction DNS (hmm, wondering if I remember the zone name correct, I mean the one you spawn right after hacking in), which happen to fall down there often.
Additionally I like the danger to fall down. It adds in more thrill when you get involved in some HackNet fighting (although this is very rare).
I hate it when things got more and more convenient. Some things should be cumbersome, cause they add in more challenge.

Its a bad Idea. For looting some Mob you have to jump down to get the stuff you need. With your intension the programmer have to be sure that the mob arent flying around.
So be a nice guy and answer to the "help me im fallen off the grid" posts.

And it would be exploitable. Therefore, no.

They should make the bottom level totally flat. Keep the "upstairs" sections as they are and have the base level the same as the "real" world.

Having spent quite some time in Hacknet I can honestly say this would be about the most annoying thing I can think of.

Imagine you had just spent 10-15 mins running to TH Bridge, whilst trying to get to the DB/Boss Room/Storage a mob pushes you off a walkway.

Oh ... Now I have to start all over again and on top of that I have to wait for my SI to wear off first.

So there should be no punishment for being an idiot and falling off? Whats the point of the design if not to avoid falling off?
I agree, that you should still be able to loot the mobs wherever they fall, but currently Hacknet feels unfinished. Like they couldn't figure out the problem we discussing here so left it as is.

Maybe ppl should die when they fall off. Makes more sense somehow.

Either way, it's not that big an issue. I just noticed it on help quite often yesterday and of course we always help these runners.

I was just thinking if there is a better solution for it in game, especially for newbs. I gotta admit I never played much in hacknet so if the hackers say this is bull then leave it as it is.

Peace out

You fall off...you die...end of discussion.

And how do you loot the fallen mobs then?

Would it be possible to rubber band the corpse to it's spawn point?

Looks like the loot falling down there prevents a real solution. We gotta keep it as it is imo. Ain't that big a thing anyway. Thanks to everybody for contributing.

No sorry, I meant the mobs corpse so there would be no need to jump down.

maybe a dumb idea but how about making runners fly in HN ?

Now I get it :) Yes that's cool. However, the devs shouldn't invest too much time in a feature this small so it depends on how much time the implementation would take. Thanks for contributing tho, Jodo.

This, my friend, sounds like a good idea for the Hacknet 2.0

Right now the Hacknet is build like the original world just with different textures. Flying thru tunnels represting data streams and thru "data points" where different streams meet (for example) sounds much cooler to me :)
