I tried to go to my own faction HQ which whom I have +76 sympathy to do some missions, and poof, dead. So how exactly am I supposed to get my SL up, sit afk for 3 days?

If u have enough faction symp, try to get some sewer rat missis. Every missi add one point to ur SL.
I would say the best way is to get the jobs in the jobcenter (savezone) p2 and run to the sewer in front of the entrance.

PS: -32 should be the level were u loss ur saveslot and the copbots shoot at u. So u need -31 SL to be save
