With the recent upgrade, the question of allowing animated avatars was brought up by a fellow member of the community.

As this decision affects everyon using the forums equally,
we would also like to let everyone cast his/her vote on the matter.

Disclaimer: Regardless of the decision made, the current practice of our lead moderators reserving a right to remove offending, inappropriate or otherwise disturbing content (including avatars or signatures) remains unchanged.

Tasteful ones like Dark-Destroys are great, so I vote yes.

No! Most animated avatars are ok, some are very nice (e.g. the crahn one up above).
But most are just irritating and take away from the look and more importantly the content.

I've always found most animated avatars or sigs to be very annoying and as a result I don't bother reading what has been posted.

P.S. REALLY hate that Crahn avatar!! Fallen Angels forever!!! :D :angel:

No! I think we should go back to policed signatures too, maximum height and width etc. It makes the forums so much nicer to use IMHO.

There were some escalation with runner which are not able to post anymore, so yes.

From my point of view, most animated avatars are just fine, but those who are not are making the trouble and it usually the same individuals that need to take everything a step further.

This includes (but is not limited to) offending videos, hiding offending content in an animation, harming other individuals (Epilepsic).
That's why i voted No. It gives some possible misuse vectors while I do not see much benefit the forum and our discussions would gain.

If you want to see my animated avatar, log in and watch my animated and approaching plasma ;-)

I think the best idea is probably to allow animated avatars, but to restrict (a) the max size (physical file size more importantly) that can be used, and (b) come up with some sorta rules in regards to the animation its-self...
Constantly flashing and weird avatars can be a huge distraction from the forum its-self! :)

Ugh god no... That is exactly one of the reasons I have adblock extension installed in firefox to be able to block annoying images.

People can still have animated images in their signatures, right?
