Patch #172 will not

The first 2 or 3 patches were ok but:
AutoUpdater downloading patch #172 always gets to 7026688 bytes of 7027417 bytes then hangs. 3 seconds later Windows Task Manager shows "Neocron 2: Beyond Dome of York - launcher" Not Responding and I have to use the red X to close the AutoUpdater window ("Cancel" does nothing). Tried about a dozen times today - same result every time.

I'm having about the same problem... and i tried reinstalling nc2. and it only has gotten worse.. it will download all the patchs from 159-172 and then when it starts to apply the patch it gives me an error..
"Error: couldn't open: client.exe, possibly write protected patching failed"

So if anyone would also know how to fix that it would be great.. :wtf:

my guess is you both use vista/windows7, and you have neocron installed on the c drive, just copy the whole folder to another partition, or at the very least out of program files, and you should be alright

NC needs a new version of C++. You might not have the right one.


Neocron now also requires newer Visual C++ runtimes. Odds are that another game or program has already installed these on your PC, but if Neocron does not start after applying the patch, you will need to go to Microsoft (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?displaylang=en&FamilyID=766a6af7-ec73-40ff-b072-9112bab119c2) and download and install the vcredist_x86.exe at the bottom of the page.

I downloaded and installed the C++ thing before I attempted to patch and didn't have any problems.

You won't be able to download them now though I guess as the servers have been taken offline again.

Nope, XP64 and all my games are on a different partition than the OS.


NC needs a new version of C++. You might not have the right one.
OK, will try that. Probably foolish of me to think that one of the 5 versions installed by other games would cover it, I suppose.

*Edit*
Downloaded and tried installing vcredist_x86.exe but it installed nothing (probably because I already have the same version of MS Visual C++ 2005 installed - none of the installed C++ details listed in first post have changed). Rebooted anyway and tried updating Neocron. It redownloaded all the patches from #169 onwards and is now up to date. Problem resolved. :shrug:

Setup up the launcher to run as administrator.
