View Full Version : UK NC Piss Up/Meet #7 Discussion and Suggestions

So #6 is over and as ever, we all want another; But what to do?

This thread is for the collation of the various ideas regarding the next meet: Location, duration and nature.

So far a few proposals have come to light:

General meet:
Probably in the south, London or similar being most likey, in a similar vein as those that have preceded (meet up, get battered, have breaky, buggar off).

Big, dedicated meet over a number of days:
This is something that has bounded about within the circle of higher-ups and rather dedicated NC-meet/drunkard members.
The plan being to hire out a cottage or similar in Wales, Devon, or of the same nature for about a week, having barbies, exploring the local area and getting battered on regular occation.
As this would have to be booked, somewhat more planning and dedication would be required; No 'I think I may be able to come', you would have to say yes or no rather early.

The latter is of personal preference, but is up for discussion.

Banter away dear fellows.

I am up for either and think the second idea is a great one, if enough people stay for the entire time i'm sure it could be arranged that others may drop in for one or two nights based on their funding/available time off etc.

If we do go for the second idea i'm all good as long as it's during August onwards. As for the first idea based on location i'm easy as i'll even fly down if it's a massive distance. :)

Thread Stuck.

I'd love to come along this time, but would prefer a one nighter with plenty of notice so that I can book the hotel & save money!

The cottage might be difficult for me, unless I could just come for the one night due to personal commitments. Hey, I could bring my guitar and we could have a drunken singalong!

The middle to the end of August would be cool for me, and I'd be more than happy to travel down south.

if you bring a guitar I'll bring mine (and a bongo!)
more seriously, what about doing it in august so more people will be on holidays

Dog sarnit, I will try to mke at least one of these...

My 3 conditions are: As long as it goes over at least 1 weekend so I can leave on friday night from work and arrive.

IT's not too far away... my max distance would be North London from my house, as I'd prolly drive.

It doesn't cost me too much to get there/stay somewhere.

Shame that in the RW we can't just run out and kill stuff to get money eh? Life would be so much easier...

Oh, and July 15-August 5 I'm in China and Mongolia on an expedition, so I can't make then :(

Ok Here's a location for you to think about Newquay in cornwall.

Would be an excellent place for a week in summer lots going on. Theres even an airport just outside for those who wish to fly with destinations to and from all over England and 1 in Germany and 1 in France.

There will be cottages available round there or possibly even log cabins on some of the local campsites.

And you don't get much more south :p

what about doing it in august so more people will be on holidaysSo far, three separate people have mentioned August, so it sounds like that part of the plan is coming together. Also, it's my birthday at the end of August, so that suits me down to the ground as I normally take a holiday from work then.

I can get anywhere, anyhow, so keep those ideas rolling in :)

Ok Here's a location for you to think about Newquay in cornwall.

Cornwall is my old neck of the woods, and Newquay would be a good place to goto, got plenty of good pubs and good nightspots.

However August may not be so good for me, as I'm in the process of planning a stag weekend for my mate who is getting married in September, and oddly Newquay is one ot the destinations being considered!

Because of travelling costs and the fact you have to be 21 to drink.

And the fact you Always get gimps coming up to you saying, Oh my god, are you like from France?
Or "hey come here and tell us your british sayings"

Well that's why I wouldn't go.

Feel free to start a thread if you want to organise a meet up for the stateside players. The moderation team will gladly support the thread in terms of sticky status and adding new information to the original post; to help you get things organised if you actually intend to meet up and get some genuine interest. All we ask is you don't derail or spam the threads related to other meet ups.

As for the UK meet ups; i'm sure everyone would be more than happy for people to drop in from all over the world if they wish to come along. We do always work on an ethos of 'the more the merrier', the simple reason for the current meetings being in the UK is that they've happened before and have become established with familiar faces showing up each time who happen to all live in the UK :)

Ok, the late August bank holiday falls on the 31st this year. A few birthdays all fall in that last week, so would the majority be up for Sat 29th and Sun 30th at least? If we are still doing the week long thing, the week ending the 30th is still good for me, but we need to get a majority vote on that.

so, have we decided on a location date for this thing? I glanced over a post over on THN that said something about York? That'd be a pig for me cos I'd have just got back from Mongolia and have no money or holiday time left :(

Lexxuk

As much as I'd love you guys to come to Cornwall (hey, Newquay is just up the road from me!) aiming for this area during peak tourist season isn't really an option unless you want to pay the premium (and book well in advance). You can get B&B's for around £15/£20 a night though with some pubs/b&b's that enjoy a good lock in.

For night-life though, you can't really beat Newquay, lot's of hot drunk local girls, and lots of hot tourist girls looking for a holiday fling! As well as a beach, and the weather down here is frikken lovely at the moment.

Prices for a cottage in August.... £1,035 for a week, Sept/Oct it drops down to £595 (and £275 in January).

August really is the best time to come here (weather wise) but also the worst time to come here because property prices will shoot through the roof because of the uber high demand.

And no, you can't all sleep on my floor :P

Having a look around, you can get one for around 800 in August, a good cheap one with pool's already fully booked though. Try http://www.holidaylettings.co.uk/newquay,-cornwall/

York was a sugguestion for a meet from last year, it got changed to Nottingham in the end.

As for this year's weekend meet - no location has been decided, I think everyone is aggreed they want to go on a meet at the end of August.

I'm still going to sugguest meeting up in London.

August is all good for me, should be able to make it regardless of location if money is ok - started to hide pennies from myself for it now.

Shall we try and have a definitive plan sorted by... Friday 19th June? Still a short while for us to chat about it but enough time to hopefully get some hotels booked fairly cheapish.

As for a location i've never been to the capital before so it would be interested in heading to London. Just so long as it's priced within reason ( saying that it's £3.30 for a pint of lager/cider in my local night club :wtf: ) and not somewhere we're all going to get lost in!

If we do hit up London i'd also be interested in making a weekend of it staying two nights as to possibly get in and see some of the sights.

London will be expensive, but it depends where you go. The Nag's Head next to the royal opera house will set you back £4+ a pint, but a spoons or something similar won't be that bad.

Cocktails in our newly found cocktail bar were £8 each, but worth every penny ;)

DJ, it sounds like you know London well, so you should plan our drinking route if we go there. My last visit to London involved lots of walking between bars, only to find they were closing / weren't serving food etc.

That's not too bad actually, the pub I work in charges that much after 11. Is a lot for a spoons though, it will probably be cheaper in one that's not in a tourist area.

I know parts of London, mostly around Kings Cross/St Panc. Plus a few places on Tonenham Ct. Rd. and New Oxford Street.

It's been a while though, if a couple of us want to go down the day before to recce a few area and jog my memory, that might be useful.

OK NOOBS LET ME GIVE YOU A TOUR OF LONDON.

Depending on what you want and where in London you want to go will depend on how much you want to spend. If central London isn’t important then there some great places around Brick Lane although they aren’t exactly posh, they are VERY lively with security at either end of a street, bars in the middle and people partying and drinking in the street. Other non central locations include Angel, they have a few spoons which aren’t too badly priced and when that shuts you have quite a few other bars and pubs still open after 11. If you want central and cheap then places Moose Bar (bond street station on the corner of Selfridges) do a fantastic happy hour between 5-9 : -

Cocktails 3.90 (excluding Champagne)
Draught Becks 2.75
Corona/San Miguel 2.75
House WIne Glass-2.90 Bottle-9.75
Spirit & Mixer 2.90
Tequila Shots 2.90

NOTE: The price has gone up, it was £2.75 for cocktails. DAMN THE CREDIT CRUNCH !

I was in Met Bar (the weatherspoons on baker street) the other day and a Fosters was about £3.00 but to be honest I’m used to paying around that much in London, anything cheaper is a bonus.

I do honestly recommend somewhere close to central to avoid disappointment with bars shutting seen as most of the central bars are open till about 2-3am. Most places stop serving food at around 11 anyway but if you are slightly outside central like the places mentioned above then I guarantee you there will be a chicken shop every 5 minutes !

I tell you what is cheap, that’s Nags head Algate east, £1 FRIGGININ PER LAP DANCE!

PEACE OUT !

Both locations are about 20 minutes in to central london and finsbry park can take you to leiscester square.

Everywhere you go is gona be crazy on a friday night, so altho you say its not gona be ibza, be prepared. You could just go with the flow, i mean theres LODSA places to drink and good transport. Just find a location to stay and pub crawl it !

The guy who is getting married I've know a long time, has asked two people to be his best men, and I'm one of them - it's a little different from the usual tradation wedding, but it's something I won't decline doing, as it's a very special day for my me, and also more importanly, for my mate and his fiancée.
