View Full Version : NC in any 16:9 Resolution?
Clean install on Vista Home Premium 64-bit.
I can run it in 1024x768 and 800x600. Both look like crap.
My LCD TV's native is... 1368x720 I think. Something like that.
How can I get this client to run in anything 16:9? It looks like crap in 4:3.
Oh, and how's that patch coming? :lol:
Just edit your neocron.ini:
PREFWINDOWSIZE = "1280x720x32" (or whatever 16:9 ratio you choose).
The login menu looks a bit stretched but it's ok when you get ingame.
N
P.S. No news on patch. :p
Runs fine just from the options box in 1650 x 1080 for me. Only two minor issues - one is the screwed up map, but ther are fixes for that. The other one is that some objects get clipped at the edge of the 4:3 plane, so you can occasionally see through things. No big deal, just a little irritating.

hey cmaster ^^
what do you mean when you say there are fixes for the screwed map in 16:10 resolution ?!
I play for one year in 1680*1080 and I'm a bit annoyed when I look at the map and see that the cross shows I'm in K14 when I'm in E07 ...
thanks in advance for answering !!
Kalonji
Somebody created some replacement map graphics for various wide resolutions.
Snowcrash said (in german) that the maps were OK to edit.
If I could find the thread, I would have posted it above, sorry.

ok thanks for that, I'll try to find a fixed map then ^^

Here is my current neocron.ini file:
NETBASEIP = "83.236.174.254:7000"
PREFDRIVER = "(D3D9) NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT "
PREFWINDOWSIZE = "1360x768x32"
PREFMODENAME = "1024x768x32"
PREFSOUNDDRIVER = "Generic DirectSound Driver"
PREFSOUNDMIXER = "Generic DirectSound Mixer"
GAMMA = "1.1"

FASTRUN = "FALSE"
CASTSHADOWS = "TRUE"

NETBASEIP = "83.236.174.254:7000"
LOCALPORT = "59999"
NOSPLASH = "TRUE"

Neocron launches but in-game it's 1024x768. I tested this via checking a screenshot size.
If I change this line:
PREFMODENAME = "1024x768x32"
To this:
PREFMODENAME = "1368x768x32"
The config menu comes up and wants me to pick new settings.
If I delete this line:
PREFMODENAME = "1024x768x32"
I get a fatal runtime error and the client won't launch.
If I switch the order:
PREFMODENAME = "1024x768x32"
PREFWINDOWSIZE = "1360x768x32"
It's still in 1024x768 in-game.
This is a clean download & install under 64-bit Vista Home Premium SP1. My desktop resolution is 1360x768x32 (720p) on a Sharp Aquos 19" LCD TV.
euhm...
last i checked, my client could be set to 1920x1080 in the options graphics select box.
it looks stretched, but it runs..
biggest problem is that the world map doesnt make sense anymore.
when you are outside mb for instance, it shows you as being at gabanium.
and its just screwed up in all zones. so that combined with the stretching, its really not worth it playing in those resolutions anyways.
then rather just use a crappy 4:3 resolution and adjust the monitor.
My options are:
640x480x16
800x600x16
1024x768x16
640x480x32
800x600x32
1024x768x32
WindowedMode
I have no clue why the launcher thinks I'm in 4:3 and doesn't even give me a single widescreen option.
Up-to-date graphics drivers?
GeForce Release 180 (WHQL)
Version: 180.48
Release Date: November 19, 2008
Operating System: Windows Vista 64-bit
Language: U.S. English
File Size: 90.9 MB
If there are newer WHQL, I'll try 'em, but I'm pretty sure these are the latest.
So I had a lot of free time this weekend. Would've been nice if I were able to play...
just use windowed mode... will not be a 16:9 resolution, but at least it will not be stretched
I ran it like that for a bit awhile back. It looked like crap and for some reason it was somehow choppy in windowed mode.
If I can't run it in any fullscreen 16:9 resolution I just won't play, no big deal. It just would've been nice to be able to.
NC can't do modes that D3D doesn't support on your machine. Seems that possibly includes the one you are after. Make sure you have latest gfx drivers and DX version is worth doing I guess.
or switch to a proper os :P (be it xp or linux :P)

Strange. I play every other game on my PC at 1360x768. I have the newest drivers and the newest D3D for Vista 64-bit. You can joke that I should go "back" to a real OS, but I like having 4gbs of ram and actually being able to use it all. Maybe Neocron should just patch itself up to date :p
Try updating DirectX. I know, I know, Vista is DX10, blah, blah. I had to do it recently to get something else to work and it fixed whatever was busted in D3D9 mode somehwere.
hmm, i have 3gb in xp and am able to use it all... seeing as every game states that vista needs at least a gb ram more than xp, i see no improvement having 4gb on vista vs 3gb on xp?

if you have vista x64 yes, if not, then having 4gb is not necessary : 32bits OS won't manage more then 3gb of memory ^^
kalonji
Anyone tried it on Windows 7 yet?

kalonjiActually, 32bit Windows can't handle more than 3GB.
thats what he said...
for example gta4 needs 3gb of memory on xp, 4gb on vista, meaning vista is at least 1 gb more memory intensive... so 4gb on vista or 3gb on xp = the same free ram, just xp is faster and more stuff works on it...
Anyone tried it on Windows 7 yet?
N
uhm, is there a test version out yet? they said multi-cursor would be supported a while back... is it?
The beta is available here:
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-7/beta-download.aspx
I don't have a spare PC to try it on but I hear it's much faster than either Vista or XP.

Well, I guess it's as good a time as any to boot up my linux machine.
it's so horribly outdated that i would have to start from scratch anyways.
my old machines just get tossed in the server pile when i upgrade :p
so it's the gaming computer i had before the gaming computer i had before the one i have now.
Still a whooping 2.4 ghz p4 with 2 gigs ddr lol, it was a beast back in its day... :p
Well, it didn't take long to download it, but didn't wanna start all sorts of stuff up at this hour.
Then I just had a thought....
and unfortunately my thought was correct...
I don't have the dvd drive for the linux machine here, so i cant install windows 7 on it lol.
That's what happens when you go cheap!
You buy an entire new computer but keep the old dvd drives.
Anyone tried it on Windows 7 yet?

Just taken a walk around Plaza 1, so Neocron does work on Windows 7 64 bit edition. :cool:
All I did was ran a copy of NC that was installed on another drive. (So maybe I won't have the annoying UAC problems that I hear Vista users get.)
What isn't working is the sound, but that looks like the sound driver for my soundcard isn't installed... I'll play around another day.
What I do really like about Windows 7 is the new task bar.

Your evidence does not support your conclusion...
Also, thinking x64 is only good for the more memory is wrong (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/64-bit#32_vs_64_bit)
i never got into the 64 vs 32 bit discussion :P
and my evidence supports it, just doesn't necessarily proof it
and tbh, I just hate vista enough to overlook any solid arguments in favour :D
still, it runs everything that isn't specifically written for vista slower than on the same spec pc running xp... (be it 64bit xp or whatever), the security is only so marginally better than the annoyance factor with having to clear everything doesn't weigh up to it, and the only improvements added were things stolen from apple (and no, im not an apple fanboy, I'll probably always have windows)
So something naimex said made me download DirectX 9.0c and reinstall it, knowing I had never done this in Vista as it comes with 10 and you would think that would be all you need. Well the idea that 9.0c would install some more files for DX9 compatibility made sense... maybe give me those missing resolutions.
No dice :( It downloaded 16mb worth of files, installed some stuff, I restarted, but my NC results are exactly the same.

I don't think it is fully Vista related, since I am running it and NC works a-ok.
Nvidia's drivers though have some issues from time to time. Try downgrading to 178, that fixed a lot of my issues that were gfx related.
When someone asked earlier if I had the newest drivers, I actually had 178 installed. When I updated to 180, absolutely nothing changed :(
So what's the different factor here?
- Vista Home Premium 64-bit
- BFG GeForce 8800GT OC
- ForceWare 180 Drivers

Could be:
Shader Version on GFX Card
OpenGL Version on GFX Card
Direct3D Version on GFX Card
a setting on the GFX Card
Chipset driver on your motherboard
just to mention a few.
Spent another half hour trying to get this damn thing to work. Updated my drivers to 181. It changed my 800x600x32 option to 960x600x32... 16:10 is closer, but still looks like crap.
you say you are on a TV?
Maybe your graphics card cannot detect the resolution it can run at... and auto-hides the setting it THINKS cant use.
i guess he is using a laptop with a 16:9 lcd screen ...
Actually... maybe?
I'll swap my 19" LCD TV out with a regular 19" LCD Monitor when I get home to see if that changes things.

181.22 from nvidia website available.
I use 22 inch HDTV monitor, NC works fine for meh?

Well whaddya know - I switched to my 19" Hanns-G LCD and the game runs GREAT in 1440x900 fullscreen. Guess I'll stick with this thing and use the LCD TV for... hmm, maybe an actual TV o_O
Thanks Omni :)

but that works only in winmode, can't get it to work in fullscreen mode ...
there is always the hardware config window popping up it i just set screen resolution to 1600x900x32
