I'd like to see them release it that early, considering how little media we have related to it.

I don't think the BP website has even changed since they released those screenies. That kinda prevents anyone from getting excited about it being released.

Yeah, 10T or KK, whoever, seems to do really bad at the advertising end of the business they are in. Which is actually half of the business. A good game is useless if no one plays it. *snicker snicker*

amen and that = fail.. But maybe that's what they want :(

There should be new screenies every few months or so. Wire frame pics of characters and objects and Dev blogs at least.

more technical information and such. It really bothers me.. AoC has been a great game to follow along.

yes... mmorpgs take ages - BP does not fall under this catagory however. Take away the RPG part, keep the MMO ...and you loose a lot of hassle :)

Honestly, I think they would do better to keep pretty quiet until it is near done, then flood the major gaming press with invitational previews and sexy screenies/vids/summaries.

And CJ, do you really think it's just going to be an MMO-Space Fighter?
The bits and pieces of early discriptions suggested it would have an RPG element with implants and ship mods and stuff, albeit probably a far simpler one than the astonishingly complicated NC setup.

does anyone know, what engine is used for BP?

Took a look at the BP site, very pretty looking but isnt it just a Eve clone?

Would have thought if they were going to make a new MMO they'd do another FPS one (neocron 3 anybody?)

With the little info we and the industry as a whole have recieved, personally i cant see BP untill Q1/2 '09 surely we would have seen just a few more screenies since the last update if it was for Q4 this year?

Also those who would love a Neocron 3 on a new engine with a higher budget such as myself should realise that the Neocron brand wouldn't do well from a media standpoint, thousands of people have passed through Neocron's gates allot have loved what they've played but some have not and it's always the negative players who shout the loudest.

Neocron's rep online isn't that fantastic. If the game's setting did return at any point in the future, i would hope it would be under a different branding and labeled more of a 'spiritual sucessor'.

Personally i think a prequel would be awesome for Neocron, have it set during the Ceres War (Plasma Hover Tanks and Pilotable Warbots? ;)) then they can have the artistic licence to create an alternative future to the one we've been playing for half a decade, who knows in that alternative timeline it could well have been Yager in authority over Neocron with Reza by his side rather than facing betrayal - what a different and yet comfortingly similar game that would be.

Hopefully BP will be a sucess for KK and 10T raising their status in the MMO market and in ten years time we might see that prequel armed to the teeth with funding allowing KK to truly flip the bird at those who have torn into them in the past.

Sorry, i wandered off for a bit there...

I'm thinking Black Prophecy is just going to be compared to Eve and simply vanish into obscurity.

Jodo

A lot of people on the forum keep comparing it to Eve even though there are several other avenues you can take for a space game. I also despise the defeatist attitude of "It's already been done, there's no point in trying our own version". You're right, they should never have made CoD because MoH got there first, what a PoS flop that game was!!

To go up against Eve would fail in my opinion, just as competing against WoW is not going to get you the same success Blizzard have had. Equally, firms that have tried to move away from the WoW model haven't achieved much success either (Auto Assault etc).

So its a tough market out there for MMOs at the moment. People are saying the logical progression is into the console market, and we know that Black Prophecy is controllable with a 360 controller, and also that they were looking for funding to take it to Xbox. However, there are many questions over entering that market for MMO makers, the price model and infrastructure costs when taking into account Microsoft or Sony's cut doesn't appeal. It will probably take one breakthrough hit and then the floodgates will open.

So KK have some challenges with BP, but unless they have changed their planfile, we already know it will be different in the most obvious way from Eve - it will be a twitch based combat model. What I would be worried about is that instancing and 'capture the flag' challenges would take away from the persistent world feeling of games like Neocron. It could end up being more like Guild Wars than Eve.

I've also got a sneaky suspicion it will be quite simple to play, with a view to the consoles, but I fully expect them to release more information soon, now that their outsourced graphics contract has been completed.

Meh. Looks like it’s just going to be to EVE Online what LOTR Online is to WOW. An incredibly close but not copyright infringing copy. I actually play EVE Online. Taking into account the fact that EVE online manages to get like thousands of people into the game at the same time, and NC2 seems to struggle when more than a handful of players log on I doubt it will get too far. Neocron still has a player base because it its quite unique in style and game play. If Black Prophecy is developed anything like NC is, throwing it up against a well established competitor sounds like suicide to me.

from what I know its not even close to eve online it be more like X3 or freelancer.. I think going to target and fire style none of this click and afk shit

I have to say that I'm not expecting Black Prophecy to be bad at all. I reckon KK are going to have learnt from their mistakes, writing code that should hopefully be much easier to correct and enhance upon, not like with Neocron where they fix one thing and it breaks another.

I reckon they'll do better with a publisher this time, they'll do better with advertising, and hopefully better with customer care (which I think has always been fine). I reckon they'll still be slow at community interaction unless they start to reveal more about what's happening more often than every 3 months. Maybe it's slow for Neocron because they really aren't working on much more for it.

I'm looking forward to it, and if it does have more immersive combat that all the other point and click shooters, then they'll appeal to me and many others and probably hook us on.

One thing will never change though.... they'll never keep to promised/estimated dates :p

FlashFF, do you think that we, who specialise in twitch-style MMORPG combat, would deliver a point-n-snooze game? As if.

That confirms that its not a eve copy ;)

And yeah the game may have mining and stuff guys but I mean all games have mining and such.. So yeah there will be a lot of the same ideas.. But the way to present it is how it will make the game a good or bad one.. None target click a button and afk game will already be a hit.

But we need to see more press release info.. Get things talking around the world.. Trust me its needed.

I didnt drop the Action-MMO badge on it ... KK did. This said, I believe that there are shades of grey between RPG and FPS (space- or whatever setting) - but MMORPG minus the RPG plus ACTION does set a direction :)

So yes, I believe it's gonna be somewhat of a MMO-Spacefighter -but- hopefully with many side-elements that enrich the gameworld. Anyhow - so far we've only seen some eye-candy and virtually no gameplay elements ... they could've silently changed the course by now and BP might be the next TES Killer :p

None of which I know have put their negative experience down to the gameworld, story, setting or genre - but the improper implementation. How many times have you heared "It's a great game, BUT..."
Neocron has a fantastic gameworld and imho it would be rather silly to drop that gem.

Apocalypsox

people comparing it to eve...the only reason anyone on this forum even talks about it is because Black Prophecy has real time control of your ship. As in, you control everything your ship does. Thats why i will buy it when it comes out. Im tired of EVE -.-

Don't get me wrong, the gameworld is fantastic but im more on about dropping the name 'Neocron' as a product title if it were to be brought back in xyz years as from the moment the word 'Neocron' is posted in some bulletin boards the trolls leap out to play and as i say, the negative players always shout the loudest. :(

Wont do any good unless you drop the name Reakktor in the same bin :p

I wouldn't mind them trolls - at least you could be sure about quite some attention across the media and web and if NC3 would be clear of the previous issues that made ppl go nuts, the trolls will be rather silent once it ships. Of course, if it is still bug infested by then it will rightfully fail - I still tend to believe that a properly implemented NC will be huge success. The quality of the game will deceide this - not the name.

/edit:
bah... talking about NC3 again */slap_self 1* :D

Well I guess to really see, when it comes out we'd have to give it a look. Tell me, will most people be able to get past the login screen this time? Because lets face it, there's nothing more snooze worthy than that.

Space games are my favourite type of game ever, I mourn the death of the genre, leaving us to feed of unpolished scraps like X3. Looking at what little we know of Black Prophecy - the screens, the twitch combat, I believe there will be a market for a product like that.

Take grinding for example, even if you still have to hunt 10 generic space alien/pirates for a mission, if you can fight them twitch-style thats going to be a lot more fun than most MMO levelling. If weapon fire is actually kinetic rather than calculated (ie you can dodge it) then its going to be good fun.

Neocron has outlasted a lot of MMOs, enjoy it for what it is, and look forward to KKs next project.
