My computer is just a computer. In a standard case.

It's a good spec. but i don't put neon shit in it - nor do i put neon shit on my car!

My money goes on my car - maybe I should start a [OT] Your Motor! thread ;)

Saying that... I also own 2 high spec laptops... but taking a picture of them just seems a little pointless

You lot are like the chavs of the gaming world with all those bolt on neons etc.. lol

My 'Rig' consists of half a pc (nothing fancy) with an industrial fan blowing into it to stop it overheating :/

Couldnt agree more!

LEDs ftw and besides a lot of case thats made from more than recycled beercaps comes with those. ;)

At our shop (A/K Styling) where we do window tinting, distribute Boston Acoustics Car Stereo and do custom installs, we also sell light fx, however, neon lights typically stop working when the temperature goes below 10 celsius, so we use LEDs only, so yeah, neon is crap..

As well as it seem a little pointless when u see ppl using chrome in the engine compartment on their car, like valve covers and stuff like that, weee look at my engine, shining chrome, now i have a car i cant drive cause it could get dusty.

Lol, whilst I understand your point...

Luckily, I spec my car for performance rather than looks :)

IE - 15" light weight wheels - not 19" chrome bling wheels!

SizZLeR

Yeah exactly, if ppl want large chrome wheels, well its up to them, frankly i think it look somewhat overdone.. ;)

I got my PC a half year ago and due lack of money i didnt made some fancy shit outside. The inside is what matters.

about 300Euro i got a AMD64 3000+ 1gig ram Nvidia 7800GT (or 900 dont know right now....but its a good card.) 160 GB HDD.

For 300 euro not bad.

I am soon upgrading to an AMD4000x2 64 and 4 gigs.

My main OS Linux so 64 bit + Dualcore gives a great advantage (Since 2.24 i guess)
I still have Windows XP for some games.

Physics of some form - can't think of any other use for that kind of power. Still, its not exactly the grid (http://lcg.web.cern.ch/LCG/), is it.

Well u can have a shitload of computers, but if theyre hardly ever turned on and when they are, they are mostly idle, it doesnt have to be expensive. ;)

But them P4 cpu as far as i can see at tomshardware can chew around 200w each, and thats just the cpu, so running one of those around the clock as an active server where the cpu is more or less fully utilized all the time would be ~4 kwh per 24 hrs. ;)

Its way cheaper CPU wise to use dualcore or core2 duo, as they typically consume only half that running two kernels at the same clock speed. :)

Good lord, what is that for ?!?

As Cmaster says its for High level physics calculations (specifically High Level ab initio Quantum calculations). I dont have full access to all the processors as we share it in the whole physics department. But I also have access to the large HPC cluster in Italy, and we have smaller 16 processor clusters per group within the department.

Its pretty nice to see, however its been a real pain in the backside to get it up and running and through the acceptance tests.
