Has anyone got the two to work for them? It freezes up for me just before the Login screen, even in XP SP2 compatability mode.

Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated :)

Cheers.

Works fine.

No problems at all actually.

You just have to:

-Disable UAC
-Disable DEP (only if it doesn't work with UAC disabled)

*UAC = User Account Control
*DEP = Data Execution Prevention

UAC can easily be turned on and off under account management in the control panel of windows.

DEP requires a more hands on effort, google it, you'll find a million different ways of doing the same thing.

Multiple Cores is not a problem, they just don't balance it out properly, but it can in some cases use it a bit, even though it's not built for it. Mostly when buffering it would seem.

Tried all the above and it makes no difference, either NC doesnt like a 64bit OS or I'm just unlucky, looks like ill have to boot XP every time I want to log into NC :(

Maybe explaining to us where it freezes up might help?

What specifications of CPU's and VGA/sound cards are you chaps running? I can only assume its a driver issue rather than an NC issue then.

naim: you have too many HDD!

op: me and my husband just installed NC onto our systems last night - i've got 32bit and he has 64. both vista home premium copies.
i have a laptop, he has a desktop.
i sit in a swivel chair, he has a stationary chair.
we both use the same desk.

apart from the whole having-to-change-port-cos-we-run-from-the-same-network problem, we were both fine.

so i guess it just you lucky people who seem to have the issue. sorry for not being a help, but its just a wierd situation.

I had no problems with my vista apart from the sound but sorted that with the SP2 compatibility mode.

Is this a brand new setup? Could it be nothing to do with vista but a firewall instead? Hate to state the obvious DIS but the only time I ever had game freeze before login was when I had upgraded my Firewall and it had blocked NC.

Anyways good luck!

Looking for a 3rd droner ;)

Its not a brand new setup as such, just that I decided to stick on Vista 64bit to see what I think of it, very stable and much better than vista 32 in DX10 games but can't get bloody NC to work :)

My system is an E2140 @ 2.8ghz

2 GB of DDR 800 Corsair and an 8800GT, nothing special.

I use my Routers hardware firewall and Windows Vista firewall with NC unblocked, using the same router my XP duel boot is fine with NC.

Odd...works here but I don't need as many porn drives as Naimex.

Vista 64 bit, Quad core, 8800GTS 640mb, 8 gigs of OCZ RAM, 4 500gig drives on an Asus MB.

Impressive. I've fallen off the PC upgrade wagon as the quality of games just isn't there any more to justify the expense compared to consoles. Maybe Black Prophecy will cause a rethink ;)

Your skirting boards could do with a clean though

XP 32bit, 4gb corshair same GPU 8800gts 640mb

The problem might be a memory issues.

ive found that getting stuck on the "loading" screen can be caused by graphics or sound driver problems, or corrupt memory-

It is 100% defo not a hardware issue, as it works fine in XP and all modern games such as Crysis and Gears of war etc work great in Vista 64bit.

In another thread i tell about how i have the exact same freeze due to Acrobat apps: Distiller (acrodist.exe), Trayicon (acrotray.exe) and the Speedloader thingy, think is called acrobat_sl.exe.

I shut these down before starting NC and no problems at all, if i dont, the intro screens appaer, then the picture of the old man with a hood and from there nothing more happens, i never get to the login screen.

The problem might be related to other software running in the background, so chk the task manager, take a look at the processes, most processes have names that makes sense, like "nwiz.exe" = nVidia Wizard, "qttask.exe" = QuickTime Task, etc...

For those u think look either mysterious or are in doubt about, look up the filename on google, 98% of the time itll provide u with the info needed, first of all itll help u get rid of malware and similar processes.

Start with that, then try to shut down trusted applications and see if or when it changes anything, u shd hit the sweetspot sooner or later. ;)

your problem is not the hardware not even the software it's your operating system (linux user here)!!!!! :P just kidding! Is your vista setup to run win32 API? have you stressed your pc to see if it's a hardware problem? Try a diagnostic software to look for software incompatibility!

For ram testing use a DOS based app, so the extended memory wont be utilized by the OS or anything else.

MS made one, i found it very useful for testing memory modules, when i do installation of of new or formatted compurters, the ram is usually the problem if the Windoes installation claims not being able to read or copy one or more files during installation: Windoes Memory Diagnostic (http://oca.microsoft.com/en/windiag.asp)

First u can start by checking if u r using Elixir ram modules, amongst those ive tested (which is quite a lot) 60% of them were defective from the very beginning and approx 20% crashed within 6 months. :(
