Hello All, I returned to play the free month of Neocron 2 that was kindly offered.
Here is a brief overview of my experience:
1) Mah Monk
My monk was useless, set up as a Hybrid. So I went to my skills to respec. What's this? new skills? no MST? Better consult the terminal to see what these new skills effect, and what I need. What's this? The terminal has NO INFORMATION on skills. They still list MST as a player attribute, and the data on the other subskills (as i later found out) was wrong too. Attempted to spec an APU, but due to lack of information, character was poorly sorted. Logged off monk and didn't use the character again.
2) Rifle Spy
Hmmm.... lets see. Appears I had missed an item wipe, as most of my rare rifles had gone. Left with only my healing light, and head full of inplants that no longer had the original effect, meaning my PA was no longer functional. Specced up enough to use my healing light, drugged into my PA so i could have the Dex to you the weapon. Had a nosey round Pepper park after going to neofrag. found a noob, who promptly started hitting me with an energy halo. shot him in the face, he lived, just. He ran off, and I went out hunting via Venture Warp. I ended up 6 Sectors form Military Base. Warbot zone I thought. Travelling on foot, though 6 zones, I encountered exactly 3 warbots. 3 WARBOTS.
Got to military base and logged off.
3) Pistol/Constructer Spy
After experience with other spy, knew that her implant and my knowledge of skill setups were out of date, didnt even bother setting her back up.
4) HW Tank
Wasnt even fully leveled. Could not be bothered hunting down a decent setup. No psi? NANITES? I could not find info on these things ingame.
Over the course of the month, I logged on my rifle spy to go pew pew a few things. Overall, not that great experience.
Next Section: Bugs and annoyances.
Bugs: On the whole, very few found. Didn't fatal once, a BIG suprise.
However, there was one that I could not ignore; the game engine could not cope with my resolution of 1920x1200. It was culling geometry that was on the left and right of the screen. If the display was 1600x1200, i would not have seen it.
I would have said performance issues have been sorted too, but since my current machine is about 10x better than the machine i used to play NC on, I don't know about this.
Annoyances: Information, or a lack of it. If i needed to know what a skill controls, or if it soft/hard caps at a value, I needed to be looking at a 3rd party website. At first I tried alt tabbing in and out to look, but this lead to the game taking an eon to tab back. Luckily I have 2 monitors, and could have the websites and game at the same time. Most people do not have this setup.
Lack of people: Yes, the population is low. A big shame. The more I played, the more i realised it was the people I played with in NC1 that made the game fun and rememberable, dispite its incredibly bad issues (FRE, poor performance, exploits, corrupt GMs etc). There is nothing like Y-rep hunting with a drunk Scottish nutter with a Moon Striker and him seeing a large group of them before anyone can say "lets not shoot them". only 3 of use made it away from that tower.
I hate the character models, but I do like the new weapons.
I also miss my Energy Soulblade collection :(
Overall: Bring back NC1, but with the improvements from 2.2
Oh, and give me my bloody Hybrid back.
That is all for now. I haven't slept yet and its almost 9am. I will post again soon.
I leave you with some pics of better times for now.
