You can thank 600 years of Christian oppression for that (the Dark Ages).

This has been around for a while.

Re: 'Real' holograms. A long long long way off, to the point that they barely have potential at the theoretical level. Getting thin air to glow without stupidly high energy levels and/or magnetic fields (that would render the whole thing pointless) is near enough impossible.

Where 'holograms' might be introduced is via the means that NC's RPOS works. An implant or glasses/contact lens that projects onto the retina, giving the illusion of a 3D model.

A brilliant example of how it might look comes in the anime Dennou Coil (http://www.tokuma.co.jp/coil/).

Here's an image showing how the glasses work.

The dog is a cyber-pet, and the red thing is a sort of AI-policeman that clears up corrupted 'space' (the entire town is wirelessly layered with a cyber-world) and other things.

So we won't be seeing much of this guy, then?

You all realise that I'm merely a hologram running off Nidhogg's spare 486 don't you? And they say we're too far behind for that kind of technology :p

PS: Arnold Rimmer ftw!

Id actually buy one of those mirrors. Encase it in some lightweight bulletproof glass, and give it some way to input any image to it, and Cool shit :D
