Yesterday i was charged of my 6 month subscription, so i'm thinking: like LOTRO recently has give the option to subscribe lifetime, why NC don't do the same?

well thats alot of money but if they would it kinda as expensive as a years subscrition maybee it would work out. but can KK then earn money ?

well, i *suppose* the following:

In cause you promising a lifetime-subscription, you also "promise" you server will always being available for the whole future. That's an dangerous assumption - especially over such a long period of time.

Furthermore ... there's no further earnings, if you only have "lifetime subscribers", who *MAYBE* will return "SOMETIME* ... you see - that's difficult to evaluate economically - very hazardously.

If any game vendor is offering that ... well ... it's his risk. Use it, it you want :)

It's a risk a small company wouldn't take i guess.

That and there's definately enough elf loving lotr nerds to actually pay that lifetime sub for such a shitty wow clone.

The only reason LOTRO is doing this because the game has a known finite length.

Well Turbine has multiple mmorpgs out there. (LOTRO,AD&D would be the most recent)

The one from them that is compareable most to Neocron (not from the topic, but from its age and state of the player-curve) does not offer such an subscription.

So there has to be something special on LOTR. My guess (i didnt google) is that the LOTR licence (to produce a game with the names/story) is limited in time. And that there - as athon mentioned - is a very fix day when this game will be shut down. The "lifetime" in this case is rather the games lifetime then the users lifetime :p

Turbine cancelled AC2, what if they population of LOTRO petered out and the game wasn't financially viable anymore ?

I'd hate to have paid for a 'lifetime' subscription then ...

On a side note, i'm still hugely bitter they cancelled AC2, but i love LOTRO 8)

The Lifetime Subscription from LOTRO is a founder’s only privilege. It is not a standard for anyone who wants to play it. The only way to get this privilege is to get your hands on a pre-order code. In which you can choose either to pay 9.99 or the Lifetime option of 299 USD. Anyone that does not have this will be paying 14.99 USD a month.

edit:
actually I think you can't enter in pre-order codes anymore. Turbine only allowed them 30 days after retail launch.

From a marketing and revenue standpoint they're stupid.

"Lifetime", from a product standpoint, is not your lifetime, it's the lifetime of the product. When you get a video card that has a "lifetime" warranty, that's not a warranty based on your lifetime, or the time the computer system lasts, that's the lifetime that the product is available from the seller.

It currently costs about $120 USD/yr for a sub that runs on a six month term. If one were to pay, say, 300 EUR (~400 USD) for a "lifetime" sub in NC, consider the following:

NC would have to last for at least 3.5 more years for it to be worth the sub price. Are you confident the German tax laws that allow the likes of Uwe Boll and Reakktor to exist will still be in force for that long?
What happens if you're banned, for any reason? You're now out $400 USD.
What about all the next gen post-apoc MMOs coming? Are you sure one won't tickle your fancy?

I've been paying for NC since its inception, on six month term. For me, "Lifetime" of $300 EUR would've been worth it. But now, with the populations so low, and Uwe Boll giving Germany such an afwul reputation, do you really think this party will last another three or four years?

I hope every day it will, but even I can see the writing on the wall. Unless KK's gonna throw me goodies I'm not plunking down $2k for my five accounts to go Lifetime. :-)

Wrong. It WAS a founder's only privilege. Actually, everyone can do it: http://www.lotro-europe.com/news.php?id=3631&articletype=News
Btw, IceStorm is right, lifetime is ment for product life, not yours.
I was thinking that lifetime could boost NC development cause of, eventually, major cash incoming at once....

I am not wrong. That announcement is from a 3rd party source and is not true. I challenge you to find an OFFICIAL announcement from Turbine or on a LOTRO website and post the link that says Lifetime Subscriptions are still available. I am a Pre-Order member of the LOTRO community who chose to pay the monthly fee and in my Membership Management screen I don't even have the option for Lifetime anymore. This is not to say they wont bring it back, but I doubt they will. So until you can post OFFICIAL wording on this matter I have nothing further to say.

I hope this works. This is my first attempt at posting an image. This is an image of the account management screen from http://myaccount.turbine.com

Another thing: This link below is from the very website you posted.

http://lotrosupport.codemasters.com/index.php?_m=knowledgebase&_a=view&parentcategoryid=65&pcid=1&nav=0index.php?_m=knowledgebase,1

Everything on that screen says Lifetime is a limited time offer and that cannot be switched nor can it be chosen later.

made a mistake in assuming everyone is from the USA. Codemasters is a sister company to support all the Europe users. I'm from the USA and this option is not available for us anymore. Codemasters and Europe have they're own set of rules. I apologize for assuming. Ya know what they say....

The only thing I would wonder about is why does the following link say one thing and your link say another all from the same website??

http://lotrosupport.codemasters.com...knowledgebase,1

codemasters might want to get their act together.

Codemasters is not a sister company, its one of the oldest software companies around. CM licences MMO's from other companies (CCR/Turbine) and then hosts the software on their own servers with their own GM staff but without the development costs.
