View Full Version : ? PC specs for NC
Just a quickie - ohh err.
My friend has bought a second hand computer and would like to know if he can play NC on it. I know that he will need more memory & the DDR-400 is as cheap as chips.
Specifications are:
AMD ‘Venice’ XP3000 64bit cpu
Gigabyte Motherboard (link here: http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/Support/Motherboard/Driver_Model.aspx?ProductID=1881 )
512Mb DDR-400 Dual Channel RAM, (space for 2 more)
ATI Radeon 9250 256Mb AGP Graphics card
WinXP Pro SP2
piece of cake...
what does matter for NC tho, is a fast SATA-xx drive and 1gb (preferable 2gb) RAM.
should work well. But the desert regions from TH to DRT will be maybe under 30 fps.
but rest should be fine
More RAM would help alot..
If ram is the only concern then this can be easily rectified.
Thank-you for your comments.
I'll do fine with 768mb ram..

It will run with 512.
It will run a lot better and be more stable with ~1024.
The 9250 is a bit shit for gaming full stop, but I imagine it will run. (Seriously, why do people get these cards? You can normally get the top model of the previous line for a similar price and almost invariably better performance).
I used to run completely fine with only 512 MB but it does make a helll of alot of difference if you have 1GB
Over here, DDR2 is 1/2 the price of DDR-400, so adding DDR would be like adding the cost of a new component (CPU or mobo).
NC will run best with 2GB or more of RAM. NC seems to "leak" until it hits the 2GB wall, then stops leaking. You'd think it would start swapping to disk after hitting the 2GB process limit, but it doesn't seem to.
If you keep the video card driver niceties turned down (AA/AF), the video card should be ok.

Oi!
Well, it is shit i agree, but yes i can confirm it will run quite fine *Kicks computer* and i run 512 ram too, so he will definetly be able to run NC on the one he bought.
Well all i can say is, that i DONT miss my old computer with 512 RAM ;)
At big(ish) op wars i got 2-3 fps with that computer  but it was a 100% crap-machine tbh
