This is something I have noticed since I joined the forums and just had to ask; why are almost all your names to do with Norse Mythology?!

Nidhogg: The Dragon that lives in Nifhelm (the Norse underworld).

Lodar: Brother of Odin and Hoenir - High 'ranking' Norse God.

Baldur: Son of Odin and Frigga, apparently the most beautiful of the Norse gods.

Odin: Highest and holiest God in Norse mythology.

Trivaldi: Mighty giant with several heads! :p

Gotterdammerung: Another name for 'Ragnarok' the Norse equivalent of Armageddon, end of the world.

Ziu: Also known as Tyr, the Norse 'God of war'.

Skymir: Name that Loki (another high Norse god) took when decieving Thor.

Chenoa, Danae, John Doe and Snow Crash appear to be the only ones that don't have names steeped in Norse mythology. (although Danae is from greek mythology).

Is this just a coincidence? Where you given these names? Did you all decide to have names to do with Norse mythology? Is it all part of one big conspiracy?!?!?! Not particularly important i know but was just something i was curious about!

Also, do the GM's ever play Neocron with alt names or nething, sneaking round with stealth tools taking out unsuspecting victims that piss them off on the forums?!

P.S. I think all that stuff is correct, i may be wrong tho.

It's strange enough that you noticed all that.

lol, well first off i only noticed Nidhogg and Odin, but then noticed the others too.

Tis a bit sad i guess but i've always been quite into mythology, couldn't say why!

Correc me if I'm wrong. But is this what we calll Asa-gudar in Sweden? The gods of the vikings.

Matanius

I think so. I'm not entirely sure but I think asa-gudar is an equivalent for the 'Aesir', One of the race of gods, the other being the 'Vanir'.

Either way, if it means the gods of the vikings then it sounds like it is.

Pretty much... there are some non obvious differences tho.

Mainly due to the fact that the vikings kinda liked to travel and some small details were invented independently or taken from other cultures. IE the many names.

AND... Vikings never wore horns on their helmets tbh.

Also arent Thor and Odin the same dude?

Tis true. Absolute bulls**t that they wore horns!

Also all the planets in our solar system are names after the roman versions of Greek gods.

IE. Jupiter was Zeus and Mars was Ares etc.

yeah, all except Earth.

Anyway, back to my questions! Any GM's going to impart some wisdom on this matter? :D

I think i wont be making any headlines by saying the main reason is that everyone you mention in your list tied to Norse Mythology is a forum moderator, or started as one, rather than a GM. ;) There's been many more names from Norse Mythology to grace these forums including a Tyr (Along with Ziu) and the old big cheese of the English forums Forseti back when Nidhogg - dare i say it  - was a newbie. ;)

If you take a peak at threads gone by you can find allot more names from Norse Mythology but remember many heads means many pairs of eyes - i'll be watching...

However as for why, i've got no idea. :)

So this is all a big coincidence then? hmmm.... lol

Well thanks for the reply anyways :D Although I am now a bit freaked as to Trivaldi's anatomy! (Many eyes?!)

LMFAO! Niddy.....a noob?! surely not?!

Why not. A naming scheme (even if not rigourously enforced) doesn't have to have any particular reason, and Norse Mythology is pretty cool.
Incidentally, Thor was the son of Odin and the god of thunder, for whoever was asking. You've missed a few though Hoder for exampl is another norse mythology based one, and here have been others in the past, atlhough I forget exactly who.

No, Thor is the god of thunder/lightning and Odin is the "Lord of Gods" so to speak (And he has a huge arse beard as well :D )

But it is kinda funny that the whole GM naming is kinda like a bandwagon, I always thought that the GMs had to do this (Then got puzzled by SnowCrash)

Guess its time for me to blatantly advertise the old old Danish cartoon "Valhalla" which is about Norse Mythology, if it can be obtained with any sorta subtitles is beyond me tho, but it IS great.

Isn't KK around the Norse area?

Not really, Germany. Not far from scandinavia, but not a "norse" area.

And by poor coincidence - I am using this avatar name for more than 10 years now - my Forum name fits quite well into the list of those norse mythology name list, even if it's a little bit misspelled (http://%5Burl=%22http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gullinborsti%22) ;).
