View Full Version : Cisco PIX 501 configuration for NC
Hi all,
I shall be acquiring a PIX 501 soon, and wondered if there is anything I would have to configure specifically for NC to work. I don't think so, but one never knows.
Regards, Z.

If it supports uPnP you'll be fine.
Confused: What has uPNP got to do with NC. I have disabled this on my laptop and never had any noticeable problems running NC. In fact, my previous fw blocked uPNP as far as I can remember
Ahh. I see. uPNP is used for sharing the connection. Since I am the only person to use this then it oughtn't to be a problem? Or not.
Assuming you've a single internal network, you should probably start here (http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/vpndevc/ps2030/products_configuration_example09186a0080094768.shtml).
It looks like PIX is just as much of a configuration hassle now as it has been for the past several years, unfortunately.

I doubt it. PIXes are security appliances for businesses. A search for UPnP and PIX on Cisco's site yields three hits, none of which reference the PIX supporting UPnP
However, in my previous job I could play NC perfectly well, and we had several PIX 525s, and these were certainly not configured for uPNP nor any sort of computer game set-up.
In my current job I could play NC, to test it, in work and again there are a few Cisco PIX 525s to get past, so I am not convinced that there is any particular config needed to do this with a 501 unit. Although, the 501 will only run IOS 6.3, whereas the other can run version 7.n because these have more memory than the 501 model.
Icestorm, Thank-you for the link.

Does Neocron even support uPNP?
PIX 501 configured and up and playing NC through it. Twas very easy to configure. No additional config for NC as expected; Simple,
ip address outside dhcp setroute
and add the dhcpd details.
Didn't realise that it was a 50 user instead of a 10. Not that I shall even use 50 users, but one never knows.
