View Full Version : End of Neocron for me :(

Riddle

This week I made a life changing decision.

I have decided to sell up in the UK and move to Southern Ireland (Eire).

Not only that...........But I plan on living with my family in a 40ft Mobile home, in a field, for around a year whilst my house next door gets built!

House is sold, notice is handed in at work, boxes being packed and I leave on the 1st April. All thats left to do is tell my nearest and dearest......... so i'm here!

Unfortunately for me Broadband has not reached the area I am to live in yet. so I will be unable to have a reliable connection to play http://neocron.jafc.de/images/smilies/old/frown.gif

I wish you guys and KK the very best for 2.2 and hope it works out well, as I will undoubtedly be logging onto this site when I get access to the net again!!

I will probably still log on until then but in the meantime:-

For those who i have had the pleasure of playing with, abusing in my drunken vent nights and occasionally killing in the ultimate PvP game of all time!!
I wish you all the best and hope to be back just as soon as i can!!

A big thanks to the clans and members of them, too numerous to mention here, which i've been in over the years including the infamous Soldierz in NC1 and of late TFC. Both great clans in their different ways!http://neocron.jafc.de/images/smilies/old/biggrin.gif

And to Slip Digby, you shit! for getting me into this in the first place!! and Granger as without your logistical support and help some things would have proven impossible http://neocron.jafc.de/images/smilies/old/angel2.gif

(NOT A LEAVING THREAD! I LOVE THIS GAME! Please don't lock!!) just leaving the UK

Good luck in Ireland.

Any reason in particular for the move?

My Parents (both Irish) retired to ireland several years ago having worked their adult life over here.
I bought some land a couple of years back not far from them and have been progressing planning back there since then.

I just got planning passed and my kids are the right age for a move without affecting their schooling. So i (we - less i fool myself) thought the time was right.

New job, New house, New country OMG am i MAD??

My parent's house (and my grandparent's) is in the middle of bumfuck no-where and we can still get broadband.

you looked to see if theres any wireless broadband providers in your area the welsh project took off quite well and alot of wales is actually covered by wireless broad band if people looked in the right place. Worth looking into

Riddle

They are currently canvasing the area for coverage demand so hopefully within a year or two it should be out where i'm at but i am really in the sticks or to

in the middle of bumfuck no-where

Is about right, my nearest neighbour is like over a mile away we'll see.....

again this is no april fool....more me the fool ;) but your not often presented with the oportunity to create and build your own house so hell i'm going for it!!

Theres still places just a few miles from Middlesbrough that can't get broadband.

In the middle on the Moors I doubt the amount of people signing up to BB is worth it to the phone companys.

Dribble Joy

BT used to need a cirtain number of people per exchange wanting BB before they would upgrade it, though afaik now this has been changed due to pressure from government, customer groups and other companies.
I was under the impression anyone in the UK with a phone line could now get BB (though how good it would be is another matter).

RogerRamjet

That might be the case, but I think theres no rush in getting BB to the outlying places.

To be honest, BT need to completely rewire the whole country, replace the old copper wire system with fibre optics.

Riddle

Never mind this country!!! I need BB in Ireland :)

Dribble Joy

Oddly enough, the UK's telecommunications network is much more consistent and open to upgrade than that of most countries (bar those with purpose built modern system like S. Korea or Japan).
The UK could have had BB before or at the same time as the rest of Europe/other parts of the world but due to BT dragging it's feet and a strange competition/anti-monopolisation ruling that said BT couldn't upgrade it's system it was slow to act and slow to unveil faster lines.

Also, there is apparently something about copper lines that makes them better for ADSL over fibres, I can't remember what exactly, I wish Jernau was here to remind me.

Last time I heard you couldn't get ADSL over Fibre. The technical reason, with copper the cable runs from the exchange to your house, so you got the bandwidth available of the whole copper line, as it's not shared.

With Fibre, they usally multiplex 100's of phonecall's down one fibre. Each phonecall only has 64kbit's of available bandwidth. So unless BT have some interesting multi-channel, multiplexing hardware, you are not going to get ADSL over fibre.

BT are upgrading their network - some interesting info here - http://www.btplc.com/21cn/

Well, if you'd invested into developing Broad band, then had some ruling tell you that your company had to share it with everyone else because it "wasn't fair" i'd drag my feet aswell.

Infact i'd make the smaller companys pay for the damned line upgrades, but thats just because i'm a mean bastard and I hate people.
