On those rarest of rare occasions when Neocron just doesn't do it for you, what games did you fall back on or discover in the last 12 months helping to ensure that you reality was kept at bay?

For me I dabbled with:
Operation Flashpoint
The Fallout Collection
GTA San Andreas
Several Star Wars games
Mafia
Half Life 2 GotYE

…and a few others but these I enjoyed most.
Old or new, it doesn't matter (obviously BF 2142 will get a few mentions) post what helped scratch that itch.

Lazy work. Everyone knows about the cut backs and graphic cut backs when the staff at Ion Storm had a big arguement about the development of the game. Originally the game had Doom 3 like graphics, double the augmentations and water.

But they couldn't port it to x-box so to make the suits happy they dumbed it down. AI was shit and buggy and...it was a horrid game.

Aye. It isn't Deus Ex anymore. The augmentations was shit ("controlling bots" are in the eyes or somethin like that), the inventory was shit (every item one slot, 20 slots you got). It was too much future, universal ammo..pffff "the weapons convert the ammo automatically"... whatever. The german voice of the protagonist was this one of Brad Pitt, basically not bad, but he speaks like he'll fall in sleep at any moment. The synchronisation was perfect in Deus Ex 1, not in DX2 (german version). In addition it's look like a console-game. The HUD, the menu, everything. It was gonna be more simple. No hit-zone like in DX1 (head, legs etc), no own memos or memos on maps/pictures like in DX1. AND they fucked up JC Denton in DX2. When I saw JC I shuted it down and uninstalled it (it didn't make fun already).

But okay, if you haven't played DX1 you'll probably like DX2. However, I hate it.

I didn't play the first one at all, didn't even see a friend playing it I don't think.
Any idea if the first one works on XP Pro? I'll see if I can get hold of a copy for a couple of quid. (The reason I ask is that I have a few old games that I can't get working cos they don't like the OS.)

Deus Ex 2 wasn't that bad. I really disliked the universal ammo (but I think they fixed that in a patch?). I missed old JC Denton and the music was nowhere the same as in Deus Ex 1 (which rocked!). I think Deus Ex 2 was harder than Deus Ex 1 as well, I hated those power armor guys...
I liked the environment a lot in Deus Ex 1 but Deus Ex 2 had it's really good moments too.

edit: oh, I never completed Deus Ex 2 :/
