Firstly, I tried to post this in the player guides and questions forum (as this is a question about the game), but neither of my accounts have permissions to create posts there. o_O

The question;
WTF is wrong with this game now?
After trying for almost 3 months to pay for this game through the diabolical incompetence of the current payment providers, I have finally succeeded (and been over-charged in the process). Now, though, when I try to launch the game I get this message when the updater attempts to start...

...at first I thought it may be because I had been on the test server, but the jpeg and this post are from a computer that has NEVER accessed the test server and hasn't run the game for more than a month.

OK, you've got my money, N:mad:W WHAT THE FUCK IS G:mad:ING :mad:N?

*edit* I can still get into the test server, I just can't launch the standard game on ANY computer!

You can't play on the retail servers after patching Neocron to the test server version. You should do what I've done, and that's make a backup of your current retail install, possibly naming it 'neocron2retail' then patching your Neocron install to the test server version, then just switch between the two installs by renaming each of the folders on the fly.

ie. When you've done testing things on the test server, rename your neocron2 directory to say 'neocron2test', then rename the 'neocron2retail' directory back to 'neocron2' and run Neocron again to play on the retail servers.

If that's not the case, just reinstall and hope everything works.

Right, having wandered off and smoked a few cigarettes, hurled some abuse at the neighbours, kicked the cat, and restored from backup (you ain't the only forward-thinker around here unreal ;) ) I have the game working again on one computer. Repeating the last part of above with second computer.

Oh, and you can play retail server and test server on same computer - you just need to keep the two NC2 folders and all relevant shortcuts separate. (i.e. don't patch your original neocron folder, make a copy and patch that).

P.S. Thanks again, Mokoi, for your offer of help.

No.
I remembered that that stupid thing called Windoz supposedly support aliases, but the stupid OS doesnt link to the folder the target is. Therefore when you run the program from an alias it fails and doesnt run. There has to be a workaround to this stupidity, but I really cant bother. II run the game directly from inside the folders. Then the dumb OS switches to the directory the game is and it runs fine...
XP .- the system of tomorrow :rolleyes:
