View Full Version : Thank you.. weekend vets. (From a new player)

My opinion of the vets, in Neocron, has drastically changed.

My first week playing the game was filled with, “Take your Law Enforcement chip out so I can kill you.” And, “I need a poke.” “I am not sure where to find a gun vendor.” “Could you please tell me where the underground areas are to level up?” Most of the responses toward my HELP channel messages, in large part, were silence by the vets or a not too common statement, “Go figure it out yourself.” I never did ask for money or materials, just advice.

So, this weekend was different. A few vets actually logged-on their trade-skill characters and made a few weapons for me.

The player made weapons; much better damage. (Never had a player made weapon until now) And, I actually put bones in my character. (I’ve never wore a full set of bones or chips, as my character tend to die a lot and the bones and chips fall out, which started the never ending cycle of looking for a person to put them back in.)

My thinking about the game has changed, which in terms of new players, is a very good thing.

My finger was on the ‘Cancel’ subscription button more than once because of frustration due to lack of knowledge and constant game crashes. (BTW...I do read the forums to understand how to play Neocron, with greater frequency.)

So… to the vets helping new players out, “Thank you”. (One more player retained and not lost)

(Note: The vets on the weekend are much better at helping new players than those during the weekday.)

Its very nice to see a thank you thread as opposed to a nobody helped me so im quitting thread!

People can be nice, although most people use Help as channel to carry on the OOC chat so you'll find very few "vets" have it open! But generally enough most people are helpful!

Hope you enjoy your time in neocron,

/Delphi

P.S. Should you ever find yourself in the market for a vehicle I hear Pheonix Ltd. sell them - and at a good price too!

P.P.S. To help newer people Lovepuuding - you should sign up to the neocron wiki at www.nc-wiki.com (http://www.nc-wiki.com) and help us put together articles to help newer players - at the moment I am researching an article on droning and how to be effective at it! Give us a hand :)

Yeah... I know the person your writing about. He and I leveled up together. He was pissed about the constant crashes and quit. Or.... that is what he told me.

There were three of us that started playing Neocron last weeked. I am the only player left. The other two... left to play other games.

Weekdays: Young folks without the ability to reflect, but lots of time because of school.

Weekend: Older folks who want some time off of work, and enjoy a game with others.

I'm glad you've decided not to take a stereotypical approach to that statement

love if you find any asshole players that tell you "Go figure it out yourself" Give us names. Us vets have more than just tradeskill chars, we have better setups generally to kick peoples asses with :D

Glad someone was there to help you in my absence though.

And tell your freinds apoc says there a bunch of pussies for not being able to handle neocrons learning curve.

Look, I know that I can be brusque at times, but I'm still one helpful guy.

What really, really, *REALLY* irritates me are the people that KNOW there are online resources to many of their questions, but they endlessly spam Help Channel.

Yeeesh.

Yeeesh.

Because a game should have documentation that actually helps. You shouldn't need to scour the net on an MMO unless you are trying to find secrets/drops/min-max builds.

Neocron is the most complicated MMO out there, and it also has the least documentation to help its users.

It took me over an hour to expliain how rifle/pistol damage works. Don't even get me started on how many people STILL don't understand how your armor ceases to work when your body indicator turns black.

What the? Most complicated?!

Eve Online alone....

How the hell does that work?

School: Finish 3:30pm... or w/e... Lets say the shits get back for 4pm.. Dinner and etc for 4:30pm, At the earliest...

Fuck, most people finish work at 5pm, dont like ur logic..

Older:

People who work weekends, on all day
People who work late shifts, on during school time
College students/uni on in day
Weekend workers - On in day
Days off - :)

School kids would play at the weekend i would have assumed

I'm not sure its entirelyt about the different players at different times.
For example, I play during the week a fair bit. Possibly less than some weekends, but not a huge difference.
But it so happened this weekend I bumped into a tank in P1 who was looking for a repair to his TL4 grenade launcher. Infuriated by this, I took it off him, ran around for a while and got him a TL27 or so one, found a friendly cster to build a good one and gave that to him, along with slapping a mod on it.
I'd possibly have done the same thing during the week too. I certainly answer too much on help channel.

Oh, and obligatory plug for the Techhaven Network (http://www.techhaven.org) - full of useful info.

Gone are the days of <<Logan's Emporium>> Free weapon upgrades for the under lv 25's, Free Recycling tool for endless ammo and escorted trips for the best levelling area's.

Noobs need assistance even from those so called "l33t" Vets!! as todays noob is tomorrows cannon fodder :p

If Neocron is anything, its 'Clicky' :) , but if noobs make it past the initial initiation they will grow to love this game more than any other!

Stick with it! and Good Hunting

Writing new cave guides for the THN.
Should be writing an essay on peptide/protein self assembly, but I just can't get into the right frame of mind for it. And its less grammer police, more that I didn't understand what you meant until I read it about 5 times, so wanted to be sure I'd got it right.

It's not all about money. It is also very satisfying to see lots of people play what you have created with your team.

I was just teasing. Sorry if it seemed a little harsh.
I think everybody here is pleased to see new people both come to the game and stay with it.
