View Full Version : Want to try - can C2P be trusted?

Heya, I would really like to try Neocron. But a few things confuse me.

1) is this an old game? buggy? bugfixed, stable? modern 3d engine?

2) is it populated? the forums seems rather slow... and I only saw 4 servers listed.

3) and most important - I have to give my credit card number to a site which kicks in all my "scam" warnings. Can that "click2pay" which seems to be affiliated with casinos be trusted? There are bunches of payment issues on the forums as well...

1) Neocron 1 was released a few years ago and then with the DoY addon to it it became Neocron 2( I think) Theres still a few bugs ofcourse, but as far as I am told not any gamebreaking ones. The engine shows its age I guess, but it has enjoyable graphics. And they are doing a graphical update in 2.2(the next big patch, this was said in an interview with mmorpg.com)

2) as far as im told the servers have 25%ish load on peak times, the game isnt really populated, but you should have trouble finding people. But when 2.2 comes out(and the new payment options kick in too) alot of new people should join. and populations will rise.

3) I have seen many threads regarding c2p, and from there concluded its a really sucky system(I myself use paybycash..same principle i know, but ye. and its slow. lol) But with The 2.2 patch there will be new payment options! ^^

If you want to give Neocron2 a try, be sure to start in a pro-city faction (City Admin, Next, Tangent, Protopharm, Biotech or Diamond Real Estate) as it may be tough getting the hang of the game in DoY or Military Base. Usually there are many more people around in the city of Neocron which will make life a bit easier for you. Even though the server pops are rather low at the moment (compared to what it used to be) I always find people that can do stuff for me and there's more than enough chatter on the channels to laugh/moan/frown about.

Regarding C2P - I'm not having any probs whatsoever, but then again I'm from Germany. Dunno if that makes any difference.

Thanks, gonna give it a try then. Sounds good with new payment options.
Since I'm lazy, when is 2.2 due?

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but that Graphical update isnt coming in 2.2, Neocron 2.2 will be largely balance based for the PvP and PvM aspect of the game. It should make mob hunting more enjoyable, and make PvP and Outpost warring more fun and fair.

The next big patch after that (TBH Q2 2007 - at a Guess) will have lots of graphical update,

As for trying neocron, well I've been playing since beta 4 of neocron 1, Ive left many times, and yet I always come back! Give it a try you might like it!

Umm. I'm not sure I get how it's supposed to work...

I created a character on Terra. I played through the tutorial - it *does* end when you get blasted by the bots, right? I killed a few secbots in the bunkers in the desert. Then for some reason I couldn't walk faster than a crawl...

I exited, and "resume"; that put me on a german server (according to the chat), and never ended "synchronizing...". I exited and checked for my character - not in the list.

*confuses*

EDIT: Ah, I seem to have selected the wrong server when I created the character the second time (it crashed after an alt-tab the first time I tried the tutorial)

EDIT: And now I know I was tremendously slow because I picked up everything. Lol!

Ahh yes, I did that within my first hour of NC too and was horribly frustrated with the fact that I was barely moving. I unfortunately created an Anti-City character too so there was no one around to help me figure out what was going on, nor did I understand how to use the chat channels to access the Help Channel. I petitioned for a GM but eventually, I figured out what was going on and felt rather dumb. :)

As for the tutorial, yeah, you die at the end. The whole point is that it gives you an advanced character to play around with and explore different aspects of the game before you actually get into it with your newbie character.

I'm guessing you've then signed up with C2P, and I just wanted to comment addressing your original concerns that while there are those who have problems, I've had none at all with it.

If you need help in-game, feel free to send me a direct message (F1 option, enter my name in the window and click the + button), and I will do my best to help you out, though I'm still fairly new myself.

Well, I'm a bit confused who is pro-city and not... right now I have a char in the Tsunami, but that seems to be anti-city?

Yeah, pro-city factions are:

be sure to start in a pro-city faction (City Admin, Next, Tangent, Protopharm, Biotech or Diamond Real Estate)
Tsunami Syndicate, the one you chose, is anti-city and what could make this game even harder for you - currently has almost no runners in it.
If you haven't put much effort into your current character, I'd suggest you start over and pick one of the pro-city factions. Next for example has a nice epic mission, you get to see places and their reward for completing it (when you've reached level **/45) is the excellent Reveler vehicle.

Sounds like a good beginners faction then. No, I keep trying new characters...

How come there are more pro-city characters than anti-city? The whole brainwash setup is a serve for anti-city... :)

there isent really more pro city.. well some what more but not overwhelming, its just that anti usually dont hang out at the dome while city players have a good hangout inside plaza 2. also city have better low-mid lvl hunting spots while anti got the best high lvl ones.

anti tends to make players grow up faster while in the city u can enjoy ur newbie experience.(harder for newbies in anti easier in city)

Even if the cities were even in terms of players and levelling spots difficulty - I always go "I hate DoY" when I have to run around in it. It's too damn huge and looks soo depressing. My apts make me wanna cry. And the one spot where you get stuck on a corner when you shouldn't, near the TH guy - it gets me too often, I'm just too dumb to avoid it.

This is probably very logical and so, but how do I communicate with other players? I don't even have a HELP chatmode, which seems to be the most common channel, but anything I type just ends up in the window anyway...

Similar to how I described sending a direct message.

To select the Help channel:
1) Press F1
2) Click on the 'Custom' channel
3) Scroll down the list toward the bottom and select the Help channel
4) Make sure the box is checked on it (Unchecked mutes that channel)

You'll see your text input bar is now preceeded with the words 'HELP' and anything you type into there is visible in that channel throughout the server.

Thanks! Starting to get hang of stuff now.

Gosh, this game has a high treshold to get going... seems fun though, too bad on the (obvious) lack of players.

You'll find out that some items can be pretty exspensive, so heres a tip.

Find a place where you like to hunt, i would recommend the abandoned cellar in Pepper Park sec 1 under the stairs to the GoGuardian and the Terminals.

Pick up 1 kind of every kinda trash/loot you find and then go to YO's (YO's is the "all buyer" in NeoCron" and then see what kinda trash/loot you can get the most cash from, on your next visit to the cellar only pick up that kinda trash/loot, stick it in your GoGuardian and then level some more, when you finally need a new weapon/armor take the trash and sell it to YO's and you'll be a wealthy man. (At least till you use it all on weapons and armor)

I heard you shouldn't buy from stores. How do I find players that can make me nice armor and weapons?

Also, I get missions like "kill MUTATED DOG" -- but the missions doesn't say where the bloody things are... how do I find out where they are?

Let's assume you would like to have a pistol built. You need to do the following:

- Get an example of the item you want to have built, the quality doesn't matter. Either buy it at the shops or ask players if they can lend you one. Or ask whether someone can sell you a made blueprint of it.
- With the item or the single BluePrint, ask for a researcher on the TRADE channels, specify the Tech Level of the item (not the BP). Ask for his salary.
- Have the researcher create blueprints (or copy the one you already have) for you, usually researchers have a surplus of empty datacubes on them, so no need to provide them. How many BPs you need depends on the item and how good you want the item to be.
- With the 10-20 or so BPs ask for a constructor on the TRADE channels. Specify the TL of the item again (again, not the TL of the BP!), ask for his salary.
- Give the BPs to the constructor. Either pay the constructor for the item parts or obtain them yourself beforehand. What you need is listed on the BPs of the item.
- Have the conster assemble all 10-20 items (or stop when he did one which suits you, i.e. a "perfect 3-slotted" Blacksun pistol) and pick the best one-two for you. You can sell the pistols you don't want at Archer & Wesson, HEW or Yo's, whereas Yo's gives you less cash for it, but buys almost anything.
- If you have slots, you will want to have the weapon modded. The conster should give you some advice on what to put in and where to get the mods.

Also, I get missions like "kill MUTATED DOG" -- but the missions doesn't say where the bloody things are... how do I find out where they are?
Do it the other way round. Visit the sewers/dungeons, write down what's in there (mind the variations, i.e. BLACK roach, RADIATED roach, etc.), and then find appropriate missions.
Or ask on HELP for a few hints. Everyone's been through this. :p

Thanks for the tip.

Can I do it the other way around too, make a constructor/researcher character? Or are both those too specialized?

While you can have a constructor and researcher as the same character, there are certain downsides to doing this at the very high end. Now, there are a lot of implants, outpost bonuses and such to make it very viable... but the problem namely comes from:

Research: TL150 mission BPs and high end rare parts can fail somewhat often and will move very slowly if you don't dedicate a lot into research.

Construction: Slot chances are based on theoretical quality, meaning the higher the skill the better the chances. (Read up on the guides to see what I mean in detail)

If these things don't bother you so much, then go for it. But keep in mind it's very hard to actually level up by doing tradeskills. (Construction is somewhat decent, but forget researching to level up).

It makes a good support character for your main up to a point. As others said though, when it gets into higher level items, it becomes more of a problem. If you want though, at that point, you can get LOM pills from any Taylor's Biochem store and give up points in either skill (Plus some exp) and put them all into whatever skill you wish to specialize in.
