Frequently, being cancelled is actuallly a blessing for a series. I can think of several things that really should have been killed long ago.

Heh, anyone seen the farscape series? SCI-FI channel cancelled that too and they did it on a very annoying cliffhanger :/. So they made a movie! w00t.

And dont worry guys, it will still get aired, this season isn't even complete yet so there is more coming.... Too bad they have to end the whole show though. Hopefully all the fans will make a difference :/.

Yeah Jodo. I've declined to watch any of the new Stargate episodes since I saw the original Jack O'Neil wasn't in it. It's just not the same without the original cast. That's like replacing Mr T with some random black guy in the A-Team. I doubt it'll be the end though, you can't just end a series with a stupid ending. Oh wait, they do that with every minute of Eastenders, shite waste of space programme.

So, they stopping it Mid Season?

Or are they finishing the Season first?

Because they already have the Story line, the plots, the scripts.... For the rest of the season...

I mean they always do a Semi-Finale mid season.

SG-1 has indeed been cancelled. The cliffhanger episode that was just on wraps the first half of the final season. They do this every year...the remaining ten episodes or so will air in the spring.

Sci-Fi irritates me with the decision to cancel...they built their damn network around SG-1, and now kick it to the curb.

You can't expect people to continue working on something that's earning less and less money.. we don't know how well the show is doing financially, but if it's not gaining any money, do you really expect the studio to just pay for it?

If everyone did what the people wanted, this world would be a very very different one...

Battlestar gallactica, the original series and the remake of the series is amazingly good.
As for the rest i enjoyed star trek tng and space above and beyond and that's it.
There's hardly any good scifi series and sg1 should have been killed after the pilot episode.

What the fuck? Subscriptions to the series?! How the fuck does one go about that?!

Unless you've got a completely, utterly different system over there, we subscribe to the cable/satellite package that includes the channel one wishes to watch. Not only that, the channel judges its success by the ratings it recieves by analyzing data.

Urgh.

And also... what the fuck is wrong with people who don't like Eureka? These people need to go into re-education classes to be renormalized, frankly. I offer to help... with forcible renormalization.

Most popular shows are already available on US itunes its just the rest of the world that doesn't get them yet because of some obscure legalities i have no clue about. its even caused problems with the free BSG webisodes.

To behonest think they need to get rid of regions and borders regarding mainstream media today, sales would be far higher if someone could purchase it the same day it went to air in the US often i have to avoid some of my favourite podcasts like slice of sci-fi because they contain spoilers.

Stargate SG-1 does not end with Season 10, Episode 10.

Season 10 doesn't finish airing until June in 2007. SciFi, in their infinite wisdom, decided to air half of SG-1 and Atlantis, then all of BSG Season 3, then go back and finish airing the second half of SG-1 and Atlantis.

Stargate SG-1 was not renewed for an 11th season by SciFi. This is relatively "normal" for Stargate SG-1 - every season since the 5th, the writers have had to write a series finale because the renewal of the series always came at the last minute.

You have NINE MONTHS to "save" Stargate-SG1.

Star Trek fans tried to save their show from being cancelled and failed miserably. They have waaayy more insane, obssesive fans than just about anything else so I think SG1 has, sadly, bit the dust.Stargate SG-1 apparently has a bigger, better behaved fanbase than Trekkies.

Personally, I'd like to see the series continue. I got into it with Season 9 as I was a big FarScape fan and followed Ben Browder to the show. I had watched episodes here and there, but never the whole series. Going back and watching Seasons 1-8 solidified the choice of Browder to replace Anderson on a regular basis in my mind. It just "fits".

Regardless, after the Ori they'll have to find yet another crisis. I'm sure they could do it, and I'm sure I'd watch, but I won't buy DRM'ed episodes off iTunes or Unbox unless I can remove the DRM and move the episodes to the viewing platform of my choice. I'd certaintly buy the DVDs, though.

And that 200th episode of SG was pretty damn funny. I agree - that farscape skit was so hilarious! It was even funnier because TWO of the current SG members was in Farscape, and Teal'c was so funny as D'Argo in that skit.

I was in total stitches when I watched the 200th episode, all the actors sending each other up, and just having a laugh.

Even after 10 seaons, SG1 is still as good as the past 9 seasons. There are plenty of gate addresses to be dailed, so there are plenty of stories to be told still.

Any of the episodes featuring Wormhole Extreme was funny. Although I do miss Jack O'Neals sense of humour.

I loved how they made fun of themselves throughout that show. I think in one wormhole extreme episode they were questioning all the physics of events that had happened, like "if this guy can pass through solid matter how is it he can walk on the ground without sinking through it" That and in one of the early episodes Sam mentioned to Jack something about "pulling a Macguyver"

You know even though RDA was brilliant in Sg1 people get too attached to characters in some shows, and then get antsy when something is changed which would be a natural evolution of a character.

This is why BSG is so fracken good, theres a promise by the writers if i rember the article correctly to kill off at least a couple of major characters a season and I don't just mean cylons. Wonder who's gonna kick the bucket in season 3.

Talking about Enterprise here?   What an awful awful show. Just goes to show that Berman and Braga (producers) really know how to run a franchise into the ground - come on Star Trek was virtually a guaranteed goldmine.

SG1 - the couple of episodes I watched looked terrible, good riddance.

Aaah, so because Fox had no idea how to market it, showed pretty much all the episodes out of sequence (most of their execs have trouble distinguishing their arses from their elbows, I'm told) and let's face it, completely mishandled the show, Firefly sucks ass. Get a clue, dude.

Another show getting cancelled by FOX after a short-ish run: Family Guy - that's really shit too right. Brought back due to popular demand, but I digress.

Not only did it [Firefly] have one of the highest DVD sales of any show but they actually made a studio movie of the series BECAUSE OF SAID SALES. So yeah it must really suck.

You get out of the wrong side of bed or something? Tetchy barsteward.
Firefly had its film because and only because Joss Whedon wouldn't let it die which he admitted himself in television interviews. Futurama has been cancelled about 5 or 6 times and keeps being brought back by popular demand. The problem with popular demand is that its only a vague opinion usually. You can have 5,000,000 people sign an online petition (lots of time and dedication involved there  ) but the trouble is only 1,000,000 people are actually true fans who tune in to watch it every week.
The same thing happened with th Angel series. I thought it was much better written and directed and everyone had already polished those talents and cut their teeth with the Buffy series. To take this one step futher, it starred David Boreanz. Not really a big incentive for most lads but that shouldn't matter because most of the Buffy and Angel fanbase was female anyway.
There were/are a lot of people who like the idea of these and other series but not enough to actually bother watching it.

Scanner Darkly
04-10-06, 22:48
My point being, that whether a show does or does not get cancelled has nothing to do with it's quality. It is almost entirely to do with it's ratings (viewing figures) which affect sponsorship/advertising.

If a network feels that a show is not performing well, which can be because a show sucks or because it is mishandled by the TV network, or for various other usually commercial reasons, it will pull the plug.

Hence my comment about Family Guy (cancelled a million times) and your example of Futurama, both of them series that faced termination in their prime. Btw Futurama as you probably know is being brought back in 2008 for one confirmed series with usual cast. Hooray for Billy West & co!

edit: not sure why "Joss whedon not letting it die" in any way supports your argument that the show sucked. He didn't want to let it die (and released comics/and I think some novels - comics seemed a bit weak to me) because there was still a story to be told. Did you actually watch the show? It really was pretty good, just perhaps a little too unique for its own good.

Sorry I snapped at you, I just thought your post lacked any substance behind your assertions.

Alot of sci-fi fan's think that fox doesn't give new sci-fi shows a chance to develop enough, some examples that community commonly states is space above and beyond and firefly theres several other but i can't rember them.

Enterprise is again another story though it did succumb to the ratings machine , it was more an issue of the writing and continuity that was smashed to pieces according to the fanbase. But still its coming back we're getting another movie in a couple of years.

And for peoples reference its not the production studio that wants to cancel it, from what i gather sci-fi didn't want to air it anymore. There line up has started to change for the weirder... pro wrestling on sci-fi anyone?
Now im not sure if I want sci-fi to pick up scott siglers ancestor for a TV Movie.

I enjoyed the first few episodes of Enterprise, but by about half-way through the first (only season for me) season, it seemed to be turning into a retro-Voyager sans sexy middle aged Janeway analogue. No Janeway, no dice.

I just kept expecting Dean Stockwell to pop up whenever Scott Bacula was around.

My argument was that Cancelled show with unusually high DVD sales = popular/cult show . This is the reason that's usually given as to why Universal put up the money for Serenity. Serenity was of course a box office flop and made back it's budget plus a little extra from DVD sales.

It's not like Whedon has that much clout that he can just snap his fingers and get a deal for a movie spun off a huge big failure of a TV series.

By the way did you watch much Firefly?

Jodo
05-10-06, 19:37
Sorry, I meant to answer that in my last post. I watched the first couple of episodes but found the characters weak and unlikeable (same trouble with Farscape too). I really couldn't get in to it and a couple of the actors seemed quite poor, possibly contributing to the weak characters. The two that had been in Buffy and Angel (one of them also in and the Shield 24) I have never liked so that probably influenced me a bit. As I said though, it's just my opinion.

Richard Dean Anderson is getting old, I think he is planning on being let out to the field to stud. As for firefly/serenity, I liked it a lot, and since it broke even and then some, maybe they will make another, 70% of the crap the studios roll out these days can't be breaking even, a break even keeps the lights on and the camera crew employed. Who knows?

Jodo
07-10-06, 14:21
Sadly that’s not enough for the backers to be bothered about and there's also no guarantee that it would continue to break even. If it's not making a huge profit, the backers will not want to risk their cash.
