The Hamster MUST recover, if only to be made a joke out of by Jeremy Clarkson on Top Gear for not being able to reach the top of the Cool Wall! :( It doesn't say anything about a broken neck or back so let's hope he's right as rain in no time. Fingers crossed.

That Jet-Powered Car sketch sounds cool though.

No neck or back but he has been seen by neuro specialists.
A 300mph rocket car huh? Apparently the chute deployed but it veered off the road and flipped over. Not good.
Best wishes to "Hamster" Hammond.

Best wishes to the guy and all, but why couldnt it have happened to Clarkson?

(This is why I dont watch Top Gear. Less about cars, more about doing silly things with them).

Yea, Top Gear is one of the best shows in the world right now (even if you don't like cars)

I wish it was in the US :(

For anyone who hasn't seen the news over the last 24 hours, it's reported that he was trying to achieve a certain speed so they could declare him the fastest man in the UK. Apparently they were going to use James May first, probably so they could give that title to a guy with the nickname of "Captain Slow" for a hint of irony and amusement. They changed their mind and went to Hammond, probably cos he's smaller and weighs less. His last run before the accident was meant to have reached around 280mph. If there hadn't been the crash and Hammond failed, they were gonna go to The Stig and see if he could manage it. Would've been cool if it worked...

First bit of news this week that made me feel really sad. I hope medical science and the little hamster pull through!

Will this be the end of Top Gear's stunt-happy golden era?

There's an interesting article in the comments section of the Daily Telegraph about this. Generally slagging off 'healthensaftey' regarding personaly risk (and the personal right to do what the fuck people want if it's not of risk to others).

(This is why I dont watch Top Gear. Less about cars, more about doing silly things with them).

If I want a serious review I'll read the motoring section in the affore-mentioned saturday motoring section, the Top Gear mag or one of the vast number of car magazines/programs. Top Gear is about (as said in affore-mentioned artice of affore-mentioned broadsheet) fun, what excites people about cars and enjoying things.

The unfortunate downside to this incident is that TG will not be doing the sort of things that make it what it is.

The Hamster has managed to take a few steps though they were, unsurprisingly, shaky.

Would have thought most people who paid attention to anything in the media about Richard Hammond would have seen it advertised somewhere already. It's been known he's going to appear on it since the 8th, maybe even a bit earlier. I wonder how many millions he's made just out of the last few of months alone though with all the hype/interviews and such. Won't be surprised if he brings a book out not long from now with even more details about it, or maybe for next Christmas. Maybe even re-using that dramatic title "The Day I Died". ;)

But still, fair play to him, and let's hope he gets well soon so he can get back on Top Gear and be laughed at by Jeremy. :D

hampster?!

That's his nickname, he's on the rather small side. Jeremy Clarkson (the main presenter of Top Gear) on the other hand is rather tall, probably over 6ft, so it's a running joke in the series to constantly make fun of him when possible.

If he was to die, it would be almost as bad as the recent deaths of Steve Irwin and Joseph Barbera :(

New Series of Top Gear on tonight at 8pm! Winnar! :D They're meant to be showing footage of the crash, I reckon they're gonna stick it on a Top Gear DVD at some point, heh.

It should be on Teleport Replay if you have cable or know someone who does. Also, last season was repeated on Tuesdays I think.

They're meant to be talking the event over on the show. From what I can tell, Hammond just wants to get the story and footage out and get it over with. I think he's bored of having to tell the story to everyone he meets. I don't blame him really.

Clarkson was so fed up of people talking to him about it he was seriously considering getting a t-shirt with 'He's fine!' written on it.

That would have been great.

No one would have had any other reason to talk to Clarkson if he'd just done that.
