I'm wondering when my HDD will give out.... it's about 5 years old....
Encase is a good tool for recovering lost data. Many governments uses it too.
This is exactly the case where time machine will help. No matter how many times have I used undelete s/w it never succeed. Then there are the relative companies which will charge you a lot for these services and with no guaranteed results

@Zovos
You might want to give File Scavenger (http://www.quetek.com/prod02.htm) a try. imho its the uber-recovery tool.
But be warned, depending on disk size, selected scan method and condition of the drive, it can take some time to complete the recovery.
I once had a 100gb drive which suffered a headcrash (well, we both suffered) and had it scanned with File Scavenger in Salvage mode. Took 7 whole days to complete. BUT : it got me almost all files back. my precious mp3s......
cheers
The irreplaceable most valuable thing is porn, not mp3s...
ya the 2.32 TB of porn must be saved
GetDataBack (http://www.runtime.org/) is what i use to recover my porn
