I just wanted to say a few words about registration...
Let me begin by stating that I am a huge fan of the budding MMOFPS genre. I have a nearly maxed-out character on SOE's PlanetSide, but I was looking for something new and fresh.
I discovered neocron when searching wikipedia for MMOFPS and I was pretty excited to give it a try.
Unfortunately, after downloading the multi-gigabyte client, and patches, I was prompted to create an account with a company called "Click2Pay" - I wasn't thrilled about giving out my credit card information just to get a free 10 day trial, but I was anxious to try the game, so I relented.
Unfortunately, the Click2Play registration page kept telling me that my credit card number was invalid. I was frustrated with the interface because I am an american who is currently living in Japan. I have an american credit card with an american mailing address - but the site recognizes my IP address as being in Japan, and it won't let me change my address.
I finally broke down and called Click2Pay - and they were rude, and absolutely no help. They told me that my credit card was 'probably' declined because they are recognized as a gambling organization... I asked, "So you guys handle money for online Casinos?" To which he responded, "uuuuhhmmm... something like that" How shady is that?
They couldn't help me, and basically didn't seem to care that the good developers of Neocron were not going to get their money...
Neocron developers, if you're out there, please heed these warnings:
1) It's not wise to use shady unknown companies who aren't really concerned about your well being...
2) You really should't require a credit card number to get the free trial. Your marketing folks might tell you that it sends the message; "We're so sure that you'll love this game, you won't need to deregister." but it really sends the message, "We're pretty sure you won't remember to deactivate your account within the 10 day trial period, so we'll just take your 10 euros a month until you get around to doing it."
Thanks for listening... It's a shame I won't be able to try this very intriguing game.
