Giving this unholy desktop another try. Finally managed to get my hands on a legit copy of Windows XP without having to sign over my firstborn.

Shame that I now have to format the hard drive, but it was a total loss in the first place anyway. Hopefully this time around we can pinpoint what problems might exist now that we will soon have a clean copy on the computer.

Dare I say... perhaps I can play Neocron once again if it wasn't the graphics card that went down in the first place and took systems integry down with it.

I'll have to say that if this works, I'm actually glad I didn't spend the money on a new system, however decent it would have been.

I once banged a hooker on top of a computer...that count?

You lie.

A hooker that aroused you, Helldemon, would be far too large for a mere desktop computer to hold up.

Good news, guys.

Apparently most of the hardware works. I'm online and running on the desktop right now. Grabbing drivers and such to make this computer usable and then I'll install Neocron.

Here's hoping that next time I come on the forums, I'll be ingame.

I did that once, I caught something though and the NCPD While i was in CityAdmin removed my right to sexual intercourse. (But it was worth it)

Alright. I have been ingame for about a hour now.

Suffered, what, 4 crashes.

*sigh* Tears came to my eyes.

Bad news. Net went down, and when it came back up the fucking desktop couldn't wrap it head around that fact. The constant crashing didn't help either. I don't know enough about hardware to know what the fuck is going on with it.

So, back online with the laptop it is.

Never been this aggravated in a long time, let me tell you.

Shit. I actually got in Neocron for a few hours. It's absolutely fucking cruel to cut me off after all this.

I take it you can't just build a new machine, with all-new parts? A machine to play NC shouldn't cost more than $400 or $500.

Maybe it is time to put that machine to sleep (throw it out of the window and post pix/youtube k). Maybe that dead graph card was a sign of impending hardware doom.

Good luck to you!

PS: LOEL I maed a porn pun !!!1

I don't think so, that part about buidling a NC-capable computer for $500 bucks or less. I planned to do more than sit around all day in my store. All my calculations came out to needing at least $800 for a computer that wouldn't be obsolete the same day I put it together, and that was without a new monitor (btw - I would fucking kill for a 19" LCD monitor. I'm on a fucking 15 incher that probably was made before I was born!)

Economizing as a college student doesn't give many opportunites to get good tech.

Anyways, rewriting the boot sector and using Xp's restore point ability *seems* to have worked. I'm going to try logging on when there's more people. Last night was so... austere of runners. Most of them Germans. I did get the chance to drive a newbie from NC to MB, though, and that was gratifying.

I don't think so,Are you in the UK, the USA, or CA? In the USA it's definitely doable. It won't be an SLI powerhouse, but it'll run NC. NC really only needs 1 to 2GB of RAM and a 9800XT or better video card.

It doesn't need that. Seeing as I don't have that much even, and I played NC ( I think) with less. I certainly know people who do.

I play NC quite comfortably on Rad 9800SE with 1gig ram, no need to go on a crazy spending spree.

Porker get a job you bum!

Delicate point to make, but it's quite hard for someone in Porkers position to do so. Hope I didn't offend you for raising that point porks.

It doesn't need that.I've played NC2 on 512MB, 1GB, 1.5GB, and 2GB of RAM. The point of diminishing returns occurs at the 1.5GB to 2GB mark. 1GB is usable, but still hits swap too early for me.

I've played NC2 on Intel Integrated (GMA 900), Ti4400, 9700 Pro, 9800 Pro, 9800XT, and a 6800GT. The 9800XT is where the point of diminishing returns comes in. I also play using AA/AF, so I guess if you turn off AA/AF, a 128MB card should be fine.

CPU barely matters after the P4 2.4/533 Northwood mark. A 1.6A has noticable issues, while my 2.4/533 and 3.2/800 are practically neck-and-neck.

There's little point to going below a 9800XT-class card or 1GB of RAM. Both are inexpensive enough to buy and still end up with an AM2 or 775 socket system.

Well... this issue is temporarily moot since I'm now on line with this desktop.
